Chapter 360: Chapter 360 – Scraps Master
The chat was right.
Max regretted his choice of looting the second floor. He got garbage items namely Scraps, totaling 12, and a full mag of .99 mm bullets.
Meanwhile, Lily found 5.56 mm bullets and an M4 Rifle, which boosted their firepower, as well as another handgun and a few Woods and Planks. Not only that, she also found a Grenade and Flashbang that could help them escape a horde of zombies in case they were ambushed.
Overall, Lily's loot was 10 times better than Max's. No, it could even be said they weren't comparable at all.
Following that, they returned to the base, with Max being the porter as he felt guilty for not getting good loot.
— We warned you
— You little scoundrel! You know your own luck the best, but why did you loot it?
— Naahhh, Breeze did Lily dirty. Look at her, good loot and give you extra firepower. She even got you Grenade and Flashbang!
— Tsk tsk tsk, if only Lily loots the second floor, it will be massive. What a greedy man…
— From now on, Breeze is banned from looting!
"I know. I won't touch any loot again." Max raised his palm, "I swear on money!"
"You don't need to do that," Lily said as she looked at him. "I want you to have fun too."
"Lily!" He called out to her, feeling happy inside as she understood him.
"Un, don't hold back. Just have fun."
— She's an angel!
— Goddess Lily! Aah, this is the birth of a benevolent goddess
— LilyPixel is wasted on Breeze!
— She's the only one who understands him. Sad Breeze
"I know that you're the only one who understands me." He nodded repeatedly as he stabbed the zombie approaching them.
"Now, let's skip to the third day and fight more Infected. It will be great if we find a hospital so we can get some Herbs and Antidotes before the fifth day when the Infected become more active. We probably also want to make a chest to keep our loot. Yes, let's do that. We have enough material. 2 Woods 4 Planks."
"Let's do that. We can rest easy and bring the minimum outside if we have a chest."
"Exactly!"
Arriving at the base, Max immediately built the chest next to the bed and put all the loot inside. In their body, they only brought a handgun, two full mags, a knife, a Herb, and an Antidote each. The bare minimum to survive.
Lily also brought a Flashbang while Max had the Grenade, as he was the main fighter while she supported him.
After that, they went to bed and skipped the day.
The third day wasn't that different from the first and second. They changed their priority from finding Herbs to finding Woods and Planks to upgrade the Shelter to Level 2. They managed to collect enough from Lily's first looting location.
Just as he promised earlier, he didn't take even one loot even when Lily asked him to. He didn't want to screw up his plan because of his selfishness.
The day ended just as they returned from the city, but they managed to upgrade the shelter before that. It became bigger and had a fence that protected the surroundings.
Following that, on the fourth day, they decided to find the hospital. It was a bit away from their Shelter, taking 15 minutes by walking. However, on the bright side, they managed to find the shop right beside the dilapidated hospital.
"There it is, the Merchant. We need at least 100 Scraps before trading there and getting decent items. With the one we found in the last three days, we still need 54 more." Max said as he shifted his gaze from the neon sign to Lily. "After we get 5 Herbs and 5 Antidotes, I will loot the remaining to get Scraps."
"Got it." Lily nodded, "We also need a decent item to protect ourselves, after all. And finding them is harder than finding Scraps."
"You're right. Leave it to me, Scraps Master!"
— He gave himself a title lol
— kekeke, truly fit him
— Scraps Master Breeze! You find loot? I found a Scrap! As I am Scraps Man!
— Nah, it's SCRAP MASTER! You want Scrap? Just find me, the Scraps Master!
No one doubted him to find 50 Scraps in one day. If he was willing, he could definitely do that. He was the Scrap master, after all.
However, there was one problem. There were various glowing flesh in the hospital's hallway.
"Ugh… The blobs are disgusting." Lily's face morphed into a disgusted expression as she tried her best not to step on the glowing flesh on the floor.
"Hahaha, indeed. They are called Blobbies, formed from dead zombies' flesh. If we return to where we kill the zombies in a week, they will apparently grow there."
"That's disgusting. Ugh… Please don't step on it. I think it will burst if you do."
"Don't worry about it, they won't–"
Splash!
Just as he finished speaking, one of the Blobby in the distance burst open, spilling green pus everywhere.
Both of them stared at it for a second before turning to look at each other.
"Not bursting?" Lily asked, tilting her head.
Scratching his cheek awkwardly, Max let out a laugh.
"M-Maybe it got an update. Yeah, that must be the case." He nodded to convince himself.
Not knowing anything, Lily had a look of realization. She believed in him.
"I see. That's a possibility."
"That's right. It's because of an update." Max was relieved. "Anyway, let's get all the first-floor loot and head to the second floor.
The first floor was filled with Herbs and Antidotes they needed.
Out of 15 loot they found, after killing some zombies and entering the room, 7 of them were Herbs and 5 of them were Antidotes. The last 3 were Planks and Scraps. Because they didn't need any more Plank, they decided to leave it and just took the 2 Scraps with them.
And then, they headed to the second floor to find more loot. As soon as they stepped on top, Max had a dreadful feeling. He heard stomping from the first floor and remembered his first play in the past.
"Dodge now!"
He leaped to the side immediately as he shouted that. Following his order, Lily also jumped but in another direction. They hadn't coordinated where to jump yet, but that didn't matter. Because that just saved their lives.
Boom!
The ground where they stood earlier was destroyed by a large arm from below. The creature… The Infected that caused the destruction were visible, standing more than 2 meters tall. This creature, known as Rocket, was an Infected.
Its feet were small. Its body was swelling all over the place, and its blood vessels popped up from the swelling, turning its skin dark.
One of its arms was tiny even compared to the normal one, but its right arm was larger than even its body. Its muscles twitched uncontrollably as it headed to the second floor.
Overall evaluation: as gross as usual.
And when it reached the second floor…
"Shit."
It immediately charged at Max without giving him a chance to stand up.
"Haauuurrr!!"
