Even while screaming, his reaction was quick. He changed the way he gripped his knife into a backhand grip and swung his arm wide. The knife lodged into the Crawler's eyes, causing the Infected to scream maniacally and retreat away, creating the same creepy footsteps from earlier.

The scream was incomprehensible, but it was so loud that Max had to step away from him. He looked at where the Crawler ran to and clicked his tongue.

"He got my knife."

"Here!" Lily immediately handed the knife she had to him. "Use this."

"Thanks." He didn't hesitate to take it and be prepared again. "Now it will come to us with the intention to kill. Crawler is a pretty chill Infected, unless it's disturbed or attacked. And we just did both."

"You did both." She corrected him with a flat tone.

Max felt betrayed by her and the chat. He turned around in her direction and found a playful grin on her face. She just teased him.

"I was just joking. We're in this together–"

Just as she said that, suddenly, her eyes narrowed as she fired her handgun.

Following the shot, another scream rang. This time, the footsteps didn't go away, but got closer instead.

"It's coming!"

"I know," Max responded and turned around. He could talk with Lily later.

Coming for him was Crawler. No matter how he looked at the Infected, it was really gross. He didn't want to fight it if possible, but the loot was too valuable to ignore.

"Come here, big head!"

Crawler was getting closer, its eight legs carrying it swiftly across the web.

When it got close enough, Max lunged forward, aiming for Crawler's other eyes with the knife. But Crawler was faster than he thought, dodging the attack and striking back with its legs. He managed to dodge and Lily immediately gave a cover fire.

Bang!

The bullet lodged into the Crawler's head but stopped before it could reach its brain. The head had a thicker skull than a zombie, acting as a natural defense against handguns and small caliber guns. Lily fired a few shots, but they only seemed to anger Crawler even more.

Screaming, Crawler retreated once again, disappearing into darkness. It left behind a black trail, the blood coming from its eyes and the wound caused by Lily.

— Damn! It's not dead yet!

— The blood is gross! Can we censor it?

— It's a PG 17 game, there is no censor!

— Go go go! Kill the Crawler!

— Crawler: Ah~ I got shot~

— Dude… Get some help…

"Reloading," Lily announced, reloading her now empty handgun with the new mag they found earlier. "Did we do it?"

"No," Max answered immediately and narrowed his eyes. "And you shouldn't raise a flag, Lily. It's coming once again!"

Angrier than ever, Crawler screamed and shot webs. Max saw it and dodged it with minimal movement. The web hit the wall behind him, spreading a sticky substance on it. If he was hit by that, he would be unable to move.

'That was close,' He thought as he turned back to Crawler.

The web area around him was already destroyed by their confrontation from earlier, giving him more space to work with. He rushed forward, confronting Crawler directly. The Infected's legs lashed out with deadly precision.

"Lily!"

"Yes!"

Lily was ready to cover him. She shot Crawler's legs which were about to strike Max. It stumbled, but it wasn't defeated yet. However, an opening was made.

Using it, Max dived into its range and stabbed its leg, making it stay in place. He then pulled the knife stabbed in its eye in quick succession and used it to stab the other one.

"#$#!%$"

It didn't end at that. The Infected was tenacious. Lily decided to empty her clip at Crawler's head as Max jumped away.

Finally, after two full mags and a fight that could break one's nerve, Crawler fell to the ground, defeated.

— Oooh! IT'S DEAD!

— IT'S UNMOVING!

— IT'S SLEEPING!

— Nah, guys. It's napping. It will respawn again tomorrow

Many donations poured in as the fight ended. Max pulled the knives from Crawler's decayed body. The spider-like Infected wrinkled and decomposed. Before long, its body and the web filling the warehouse disappeared, leaving only a trace of black blood on the floor.

Max looked at the floor for a second before turning at Lily and returning her knife.

"Thanks for the cover, Lily. That was perfect."

"Un. Good job."

Both of them looked at each other and smiled awkwardly. If it was Flexy, he would definitely high-five him. But with Lily, he didn't know what to do to celebrate their victory.
