Chapter 6 Extremist Organization
“Bang bang! Bang bang! Bang bang!”
Bullets flew wildly, kicking up dust from the dilapidated rooftop. The street was filled with the piercing screams of pedestrians and the chaotic sound of running footsteps.
Qiu Tu protected the trembling Qin Shuman, guiding her to a broken low wall on the roadside. He pressed her head down to hide her while carefully observing the situation.
There weren't many enemies, only seven or eight.
They wore uniform black knitted balaclavas and patched, worn tactical vests with a large red cross sprayed on the chest. Their distinctive attire allowed Qiu Tu to recognize them instantly, 'This is... the Revolutionary United Front?'
The Revolutionary United Front, also known as the "RUF," was an extremist anti-government armed force opposing the rule of the eight shelters. Their goal was to liberate the planning areas from the shelters' control, using violent means such as assassination, kidnapping, and attacks.
Qiu Tu had heard Yan Chen mention this organization before. Yan Chen had angrily denounced them as vermin.
He never thought he would see them in person today.
If Qiu Tu could recognize the organization, the Special Operations Division agents certainly could too.Shouts from the agents filled the air, "It's the RUF vermin!"
"Stay hidden!"
"Rooftop, 30-70 degrees, 16 people, all armed!"
As the highest-ranking agent on site, Fang Ming took full command. He frantically gestured to his subordinates to spread out while shouting towards Qiu Tu, "Protect Miss Qin! We'll eliminate the enemies!"
Hearing Fang Ming's command, Qiu Tu glanced at Qin Shuman.
Qin Shuman was still in shock, cowering under his protection, showing no signs of unusual behavior. However, Qiu Tu couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
Old Lane Street was one of the most unremarkable streets in New Realm City. It had no military facilities, government institutions, or joint banks. Why would the RUF attack here?
Could it be because of the Special Operations Division agents? But... it seemed too coincidental.
Qiu Tu was puzzled and decided to observe further.
He cautiously peeked to assess the scene.
What he saw left him stunned. The Special Operations Division was the Investigation Department's most powerful violent organization, and the RUF was a ruthless extremist group. Qiu Tu had expected a fierce battle.
But in reality, the two sides, with over thirty people and guns, were just firing wildly with no real effect. At most, someone got slightly injured, but no one was taken out of the fight.
Seeing this display of incompetence, Qiu Tu was shocked.
What was this? A staged performance?
Thinking this, Qiu Tu quickly searched his memory to understand what was going on.
He soon found the reason.
In the post-cataclysm world, resources were scarce. Gunpowder and firearms were rare. Extremist organizations had limited training, making their members generally unskilled.
Although the Special Operations Division was a strong department with many benefits and a bullet allowance, New Realm City had been established less than a year. Most agents were newly recruited and inexperienced, resulting in their lack of proficiency.
This led to an ineffective confrontation where neither side could inflict significant damage.
This unexpected discovery not only shocked Qiu Tu but also gave him a bold idea.
Maybe this was a great opportunity to break the stalemate?
Despite the others' incompetence, Qiu Tu was different.
In his past life, to survive, he had practiced shooting daily, even receiving semi-military training. With his natural talent, his skills far surpassed these rookies.
He had also participated in several small-scale gang fights and shootouts, gaining some combat experience.
If he could demonstrate his marksmanship in this battle and maneuver correctly, he might overcome tonight's trial easily, without even going to Cross Street.
Slowly forming a plan in his mind, Qiu Tu's determination solidified.
He took another look at the fighting parties, then pulled out his old straight-key communicator from his pocket, typed a message, and sent it.
Once the message was sent, Qiu Tu retrieved the handgun he had pointed at Qin Shuman earlier.
This standard issue from the Investigation Department ensured agents could maintain absolute control over civilians in the planning areas.
He skillfully removed the magazine and checked the bullets: 12 rounds.
He recalled the gun's specifications. Its effective range was about 40 meters, but as these were old, discarded models from the shelters, the accuracy might be off.
However, for the current distance of around twenty meters, it would suffice.
With this in mind, Qiu Tu reinserted the magazine, chambered a round, and began watching the battlefield, waiting for an opportunity.
Within seconds, he saw an enemy on the rooftop exposing a significant portion of his body.
Without hesitation, Qiu Tu leaned out, assumed a Weaver stance, aimed, and fired three rapid shots.
Smoke filled the air, shell casings flew, and three bullets tore through the air, striking the enemy before he could react.
Qiu Tu chose a nice timing that the enemy had no time to reflect.
“Whistle! Bang! Bang!”
The first bullet grazed his body, while the next two hit his left chest and abdomen.
The enemy staggered as if struck by a hammer. Blood blossomed on his chest and abdomen, and he collapsed on the rooftop, dying.
This was the first fatality in the battle, causing a momentary pause.
Special Operations Division agents reflexively turned to Qiu Tu, seemingly recognizing him for the first time.
The extremists were startled and hastily sought cover, returning fire in Qiu Tu's direction.
Qiu Tu had already retreated behind cover, avoiding the return fire. Bullets struck the low wall but caused him no harm.
With Qiu Tu's sudden intervention, the battle reached a temporary stalemate. Both sides became more cautious.
Yet, rookies were rookies, and caution didn't prevent them from making mistakes.
Soon, Qiu Tu spotted another exposed enemy. He adjusted his aim and fired three more shots.
“Bang! Bang! Bang!”
This time, only one bullet hit, striking the enemy's right chest and incapacitating him.
But that was enough.
If the first kill was luck, the second demonstrated skill.
“Retreat! Retreat!”
The RUF fighters, already a disorganized bunch, lost their will to fight upon seeing Qiu Tu's sharpshooting. They hastily retreated, carrying their wounded.
The low rooftops of the abandoned city provided excellent cover for their retreat, so the Special Operations Division agents fired a few token shots before letting them go.
As the extremists fled, the Special Operations Division agents finally emerged from their cover.
They looked at Qiu Tu with complex expressions, wanting to speak but unsure what to say.
