Chapter 1010: The Alltide's Reasons

Chapter 1010: The Alltide's Reasons

At the moment he heard the explanation that came out of Vaughn's mouth, Valyr briefly looked at the Alltide with dread, realizing that he would have suffered a fate worse than death if he had agree to become the werebeast's successor.

"You don't understand." Naturally, as a Divine-level being, Clazarek easily took notice of the young man's change in expression, causing him to let out a harrumph in response.

"You're too young, runt. You won't understand how long I've been toiling away just for a glimpse at the higher skies."

"And that's why I've been telling you to focus on deepening your comprehension," replied Vaughn as he looked at Clazarek straight in the eye.

Then, with a sigh, he shook his head. "Yet, even after all of the pestering I've done in the past, you've continued to cling onto dark ways."

"Do you really think I would cling onto this method because I wanted to?" At this point, there was a tone of anger directed at Vaughn as Clazarek spoke. "I don't have long to live, Vaughn. I've already spent most of my vitality already."

"And that's your reason?" Vaughn let out a sigh in disappointment. "You may have originally been a werebeast, Clazarek, but that doesn't mean you've remained inept in comprehending the concepts."

"You wouldn't have become a Myth in the first place if you were, much less a Divine." Listening to their conversation up to this point, Valyr began to form a general idea of the situation, gradually understanding why the Alltide had done what he did.

Nevertheless, even though he understood what the Alltide aimed to do, that did not mean he agreed with the way he tackled the problem.

After all, this current life of his was merely a second chance the heavens gave to him at making things right.

In comparison to the possible hundreds of thousands of years Divine-level beings could live for, his over one thousand year lifespan was just a mere drop in the bucket.

Continuing to listen to the two argue over the Alltide's problem, the young man slowly began to realize that Vaughn and the Alltide had a deep relationship.

If not, then Vaughn wouldn't have actively given the Alltide advice on how to solve his problems.

Yet, even though the two bickered over it for at least half an hour straight, the two still never saw each other eye to eye in the end.

With that, feeling like he'd said everything he needed to say to both Vaughn and Valyr, the Alltide remained silent once his conversation with Vaughn was over.

On the other hand, Vaughn glanced at Valyr, giving him an apologetic smile as he gradually forgot about the young man in the midst of their conversation.

Distancing themselves from the Alltide as he recovered, Vaughn and Valyr sat near the entrance to the room as the former decided to give the young man more information.

"I have a feeling you have a lot of questions to ask me after listening to our conversation," said Vaughn with a slightly apologetic smile. "I'll try to explain what Clazarek and I have talked about in the simplest terms possible."

Nodding in response, Valyr was about to let Vaughn talk, only to recall something. "Before that, how's the progress regarding the solution to the curse?"

"I'm more or less done with that, actually," replied Vaughn, prompting Valyr's eyes to widen in surprise. "However, there's a chance that you might not need that solution later."

"Really?" asked Valyr back, somewhat skeptical.

"You'll see why later." Vaughn smiled in response, only to sigh soon after. "In any case, you know you could've avoided this situation if you didn't have your spear absorb the Tidemother's blood again, no?"

Feeling like he was caught red-handed, Valyr adorned a bitter smile as he explained himself to Vaughn.

"Strengthening the spear... Helping out a town against a monster tide..."

In the end, Vaughn let out a sigh once more, slightly shaking his head as he looked back at Valyr with amusement. "Well, if it's for that reason, I guess I can't blame you."

"It's the reason why I chose you to inherit my position, after all."

Understanding that they've veered far off course from their original topic, Valyr swiftly decided to steer it back. "So, why is the Alltide looking for a body to possess, exactly?"

"He already said the reason," said Vaughn in response. "It's so he could take a glimpse at the higher skies."

"...What do you mean by that?"

"Hmm..." Briefly rubbing his chin in response, the gears in Vaughn's mind turned for a bit as he looked at Valyr. "How much do you know about Myths? Specifically, Myth-level beings?"

"A considerable amount thanks to Sellifer," replied Valyr.

"How about the Ancient-level?"

"I don't have a lot of information on that."

"The Divine-level, then?"

As Vaughn asked that question, Valyr merely shook his head, prompting Vaughn to go silent in response.

Of course, having retained all of his memories from his past life, Valyr had information on everything Vaughn had asked him.

After all, he had long reached the pinnacle of divinity in his past life, only being a few steps away from becoming immemorial by the time the final battle struck.

Since Vaughn recognized him as a reincarnator, there was no need for Valyr to jeopardize his identity, especially if there was no reason to show all of the cards he had been dealt.

As long as he showed that he knew some bits and pieces of information that even Legends would have difficulty obtaining, then that was enough for the current him.

"Okay." Feeling like he had a good explanation in mind, Vaughn looked at Valyr with a calm expression before opening his mouth. "Both of us know that Rank 6 to 10 is considered the Realm of Ancient Myths."

"Just like how Rank 1 to 4 class holders are considered Epics with an Intent, while those at the pinnacle of Rank 5 with a Force are considered Legends, those at Rank 6 to 9 are recognized as Myths, while those at the pinnacle of Rank 10 are recognized as Ancients."

Hearing Vaughn's explanation, Valyr felt like a query of his from back then had finally been solved, specifically the description he'd read from one of his titles, [Surpassing Mortal Bounds].

Pushing those errant thoughts to the side for the meantime, Valyr continued to listen as Vaughn proceeded with his explanation. "To cut a long story short, the realm that encompasses the next five ranks after that are different than the previous 10."

"Unlike the realm for mortals and Myths, each rank has a corresponding title, which has something to do with the level of strength and enlightenment they have."

"Those at Rank 11 are designated as Half Deities, while those at Rank 12 are designated as Lesser Deities," said Vaughn, prompting Valyr to commit his words to his mind.

"Those at Rank 13 are designated as Greater Deities, which is what I am at the moment."

"Now, with that in mind, what rank do you think Clazarek is at?"

Hearing the question, Valyr pondered over it for a bit before deciding to rely on what he felt was correct. "Is he a Lesser Deity just like Sellifer?"

"He is... but also not," replied Vaughn, causing Valyr to tilt his head in slight confusion. "As for Sellifer, consider her as a Greater Deity with how much power she commands at her rank." "Anyways, returning to the topic of Clazarek, he's what you would call a Fallen Greater God." "A Fallen Greater God?" Even though he was already on his second life, this was the first time Valyr had heard of the term. "What's that?"

"It is as the name suggests," said Vaughn in response. "It's a Greater God that still has their strength as one..."

"But their foundations... their enlightenment, their comprehensions as a Greater God..."

"All of those are gone."
