MMORPG: Crowd Control

Chapter 170 Wariness

Upon seeing Lei Zhen offering a handshake, Cecile nodded her head and extended her smooth hand.

Shaking their hand though, Cecile smiled slightly, "I've heard that you are a good friend of my guild leader, Shan Lin, right?"

Lei Zhen's emotion wavered for a few seconds, but he quickly suppressed it and returned a gentle smile.

"I'm sure Shan Lin must have talked a lot about me to you." He replied, retracting his hand and sitting back down.

Nobody in the room felt anything unusual coming from Lei Zhen as he acted extremely naturally at the question.

Of course, Cecile doesn't know about their fallout either since Shan Lin wouldn't be announcing everywhere that he might have just lost his best friend.

Once everyone took their respective seats, Cecile looked at Lei Zhen curiously.

Meanwhile, Liu Lingxin was annoyed by her since she came in without an invitation.

And with her eyes goggling at Lei Zhen, she couldn't help but ask in a cold tone.

"What's the matter with you, Cecile. Did you get smitten by Lei Zhen's look or what?" Liu Lingxin wasn't polite with her words.

This was supposed to be her opportunity to get to know Lei Zhen well and repay her gratitude. Yet Cecile's appearance ruined everything and everything she wanted to say to Lei Zhen was forcefully kept to herself.

Cecile pretended to be oblivious and shrugged her shoulders.

"What can I say? Lei Zhen does have the look and his calm demeanor is quite charming too. Not to mention, he's kind of my boss' friend so it's a given that I'll be curious about him." She replied strategically.

Lei Zhen felt like he was being sandwiched between these two.

'Why am I even included in your topic? Can't we just wait for the food to arrive calmly?' He exclaimed inwardly, thinking that this was supposed to be a simple dinner and not some political meeting.

He decided to sneak a glance at Tang Qiaolian, seemingly asking her for help.

Seeing his difficulty, Tang Qiaolian sighed softly and grabbed a chopstick, stomping it on the table.

"The two of you… Enough is enough." She warned both of them. "If you can't behave yourself and want to continue this farce, then kindly leave this room."

"Why of course, I will behave myself. I'm an uninvited guest after all." Cecile chuckled softly.

"Tsk, then mind your behavior." Liu Lingxin clicked her tongue and stopped arguing with Cecile.

With this farce being halted by Tang Qiaolian, the room finally quieted down a bit, much to the delight of Lei Zhen.

He breathed in a sigh of relief and everyone calmly waited for the food to arrive.

By the time the food arrived at the table, the atmosphere changed for the better with Tang Qiaolian acting as the host.

"Right, Lei Zhen, how's your progress in Magnolia so far?" Tang Qiaolian asked.

"Hmm, it's just mediocre at the moment." Lei Zhen replied swiftly.

"Huh? Were you affected by the event at Yors Castle?"

"Sort of… At the moment, I'm still level 20 and barely have the time to level up properly."

Lei Zhen's words were half true and half false.

Speaking of his achievement, it can't be described as mediocre, but since he wanted to keep his identity as chancellor a secret, he could only give a superficial answer.

However, it was indeed a fact that he was struggling to find the proper time to level up his character.

"Oh, so you also joined Magnolia?" Cecile raised an eyebrow, intervening in the conversation. "I've heard from Shan Lin that you always refused to play Magnolia."

"Then I guess Shan Lin doesn't really treat you well." Lei Zhen smiled calmly.

"Right now, Shan Lin and I don't talk much. As for the details, it's best that you ask him about it." He added.

Originally, he didn't wish to reveal their broken friendship to her. After all, it's not a glorious topic to talk about nor did he feel the need to announce it to everyone.

ραпdα nᴏνa| сom However, Cecile's ignorance and continuation of bringing up Shan Lin's name to the table somewhat sour the mood.

Though he didn't blame her for it since she didn't know it either. Thus, by telling her outright that they no longer talk much, with her cleverness, she would understand his meaning.

And sure enough, Cecile subsequently apologized for her wording.

"I see, I'll drink this cup of wine as an apology. I didn't know much about it and have misspoken." She said gently, taking a sip of the wine.

"No worries. Those who don't know are not guilty of the crime." Lei Zhen quoted and drank his beverage in response. Of course, the beverage was non-alcoholic content.

"Anyway, have you decided to join a guild?" Cecile swiftly changed the topic of conversation, seemingly very interested in Lei Zhen's progress.

"So far, none at all. I wish to play at my own pace since I'm already behind by 4 years."

"Have you thought about joining our Aries Guild?" She then asked. Her poaching was so straightforward that even Liu Lingxin was in disbelief.

Before Liu Lingxin and Tang Qiaolian could respond though, Lei Zhen flashed a smile that didn't seem very friendly.

"Apologies though, Cecile. But of all the guilds that I might join, the Aries Guild is definitely not on the list." He replied in a somewhat cold tone.

Cecile was dumbfounded by such a cold response and wondered what their guild had done to invoke such a reaction.

'Seems like I need to enquire about this with Shan Lin. It would be bad if his hatred continued on.' She noted in her mind.

As of this moment, Cecile was sure that Lei Zhen had some grudge regarding their Aries Guild, but she couldn't tell for sure if he had a hand with the Cancer Guild cooperating with Miracle Wing.

There was too little information to work on and she was getting more wary of Lei Zhen.

Someone that Lei Tuoming had personally taught could not be mediocre despite what is shown on the surface.
