MIDNIGHT PRINCE: Empire of Sin

Chapter 209 CH 203: LET'S CHEERS

His voice was calm even as he made sure it did not spread,

"I only lived 21 years, you know? I do not think I have enough experience to put a judgment on the whole of humanity. But what I believe is that humanity as a whole should not be judged. Only an individual."

Adam had, in one month, gone through more events than many would go through in their entire life. But did this mean that he was suddenly some specialist about the woe of humanity?

Far from it. Despite all he lived, his experience was ridiculously small when compared to some entities.

Adam thought of Eve. A seemingly gentle woman who had existed since the dawn of humanity and had seen the high and low of the world.

Perhaps only someone of this caliber or people like Medusa had the credentials necessary to talk about humanity as a whole. As such, all he could give was his modest opinion based on his meager experience.

In his opinion, putting a judgment on an entire race was impossible as even though all humans were born equal, they did not grow up in the same circumstance nor did they perceive the world in the same way.

He smiled and put his hands in his pockets, 'Hey Genesis. You know, I really don't like you.'

It was another sudden change in topic but Adam did so intentionally. Speaking about the reality of humanity was cool and all but it brought nothing to him aside from wasting his time.

[...]

"Your overly rational way generally goes against my more human reaction and emotions which make us clash often. This is undeniable. But the two of us will be together for a very long time. Perhaps for all eternity? I can't even grasp it honestly."

[What do you want to say?]

"It's pretty simple honestly. I hope the two of us will go along. Rationally speaking, don't you think things will be easier if we see each other as friends or partners?"

[...You are right…Your reasoning is logical.]

"Heh…Well then, what should I call you?"

[...What?]

'I mean. Genesis isn't your name, right? It's the name of the book. Not your. What is your name?'

[Are names important?]

"Names are very important. This is a process of self-identification. In order to know who you are, knowing your name is important, right?"

[I…I have not been bestowed a name.]

"Well. Since I need to discover who I am or whatever in order to grow stronger. Why don't we walk together in this journey of self-discovery? Perhaps you will find a name that will please you.]

Genesis or rather, the spirit of the Book of Genesis did not answer but Adam smiled quietly. Knowing that today he had taken two important steps in two very different relationships.

He didn't know what might happen in the future but at the very least, the harvest that night had unexpectedly been very good.

'Now I guess I should go home?'

He thought inwardly as he slowly started to levitate, his image became blurry as he camouflaged himself and left at the speed of the sound.

—---

While Adam was flying back to his sweet home, his mother, aunt, and cousin were having a very important discussion.

Theresa spoke menacingly, her guns on the table as she asked Cecilia,

"So…Tell me. What is better? Beef or Chicken?"

Cecilia rested her chin on her hand and looked arrogantly at Theresa.

"Dear sister. You disappoint me if you ask such a fundamental question. The best is evidently Beef and Chicken. There is no Or, no If, and no But. Meat always reigns supreme."

On the side, Makoto raised her hand with her usual blank expression, "I am vegetarian."

Cecilia opened her eyes wide in surprise before turning to look at Theresa who gave a sigh full of lament,

"What can I say? I tried everything but she refused to understand how delicious meat is."

"I do not dislike meat. I just do not particularly like it."

Makoto spoke quietly as if trying to defend herself to which Cecilia chuckled, "You are really a cute girl. Must be fun to tease."

"Heh, I knew you would immediately understand the charm of my disciple."

Makoto looked up, wondering if her only quality was being teasable.

"Still, life truly flies. Who would have thought that the headstrong and prideful Theresa would have a student."

"This is less unbelievable than the mad dog becoming a mother."

"It is…isn't it. But this is perhaps the most beautiful thing that happened in my life."

Cecilia smiled softly and sipped on her drink, a gentle light twinkled in her eyes as she continued to speak.

"I really hope you will spend more time with Adam. I am sure you will come to like him."

"And whose fault is it that I only found his existence 21 years after his birth?"

"I am sorry."

"..."

Theresa pursed her lips, "You really changed too much. I guess motherhood made you weak."

"It did not."

This time her tone was firm and he voice was clear even as she looked deeply in the eyes of her sister,

"Motherhood gave me a strength I never knew existed. It also gave me more happiness than I could have imagined."

"But he is not your son."

"He is."

"Sister."

"He is my son in all but blood and I would go to hell for him."

She placed her drink quietly, "Theresa, we already talked about this and I am sure that by now the old elderly bastards in the family should be making a fuss."

No matter how much she wanted to hide, now that Adam was a gold hunter then the Kaminari family should be already in the know.

It was only a question of time before they decided to send someone or asked him to come back.

"I honestly don't care whether they choose to accept Adam as the next heir or not. In fact, I would be happy if they didn't. Adam does not need them. But…"

Her voice became law and threatening, "If one of those old bastards dare to stage an elimination order on him, I swear I will eradicate every last one of them even if it's the last thing I will do."

Theresa looked at Cecilia.

This was it. This was the sister she remembered.

Not the apologizing and feeble woman of a few moments but a woman full of supreme pride and absolute power. A tyrant who destroyed all that stood on her path with no pity not hesitation.

Taking her glass, she filled it with the beer and raised it high,

"I heard your warning loud and clear, sister. I will make sure those idiots don't doom us all. In the meanwhile, why don't we drink to celebrate?"

"I can never say no to Alcohol."

Makoto looked blankly at the flow of the events that just went on. From talking about meat to family then threat of mass massacre.

She looked down at the amber liquid and started to wonder if she should perhaps take a drink to calm the growing headache this discussion gave her.

(AN: Just to avoid any questions. The chances of 'Genesis' becoming a waifu are extremely low or near nonexistent. It doesn't even have a gender. But who knows what might happen in the future?

Anyways, we are approaching the final part of this volume. Damn this is indeed the biggest volume I wrote. So many things happened. I need to end this volume in a blast.)
