Chapter 208 CH 202: HUMANITY
The air was chilly as Adam walked quietly in the dark night. Thankfully, even though all he had on him was just a coat, he could barely feel the cold by protecting his body with his prana.
'I wonder when I will totally master thermodynamics.'
If he managed to control this force, he would be able to have a vaster control of other finer forces like kinetic energy and many more. He could already indirectly control velocity so it shouldn't be that hard.
It was interesting to see that even this late at night, the world seemed to be still moving. We were very far from the earlier time where the fall of the night mean the cessation of all activities.
[Why did you stop?]
Genesis asked quietly. It had learned that coming on strong on Adam to share his opinion would simply backfire as the boy could be quite stubborn in his way. It was easier for everyone to simply come in a simple and calm way.
'Continuing would have been detrimental.'
Adam shrugged. He didn't feel particularly dejected about the way the night ended. In fact, this was quite a large step.
"The reason Hae-Won was such a easy prey was simply that she was feeling insecure and in need of validation. Feeling appreciated and wanted made her feel light. Shuri is different."
Even though Shuri should be hurt by the way her marriage was going, she did not underestimate herself and her pride was completely intact.
'Not only does she take her vow seriously even though he cheated on her but she also isn't the type to need a man in order to feel better about herself.'
If his goal had simply been to have sex with her, then things would have been easy. The way he was, with his voice and other skills, having sex was perhaps the easiest thing possible for him and he doubted any mortal woman could actually resist it if he used all his abilities.
But the goal was never just sex.
From the perspective of the Ordeal. The goal was to make Shuri give up on her failing marriage and from his own personal perspective his goal was to have a sustainable relationship with her rather than some one-night stand.
'Sometimes everything is a simple matter of mood.'
Once the right atmosphere was destroyed, it was better to simply stop and gather energy for another moment.
[...Humans are so complicated. Why turn around so much when you both know you are attracted to each other? Why so much hesitation and useless steps? Is it some kind of mating ritual?]
Adam laughed out loud. It was rare for this super entity that seemed to be more like a computer or some Artifial intelligence to actually be completely bewildered and lost about something.
But Adam could understand him.
Indeed, humans were the most irrational beings. They acted mainly not out of necessity, duty, or survival but mainly for seeking pleasure. Be it through sex, food, entertainment, and many more.
Rationality was one of the strengths of humanity but it was a strength that was generally ignored in order to seek amusement. Sometimes even if said amusement cost them everything.
'This is how humans are.'
[I do not understand. Humanity is a race endowed with infinite potential and endless possibilities. But you mostly waste all of it away in futility that brings no advancement to your society as a well. Only a select few individuals managed to bring humanity forward while the mass is happily sitting and observing.]
Genesis voice seemed to become heated even though the inflection in the voice he could hear did not change.
[Humanity as a whole is flawed. The few lead the many. But many always complain about inequality without actually trying to change said inequality. All too happy to leave the fight to others for them. They seek change but do not try to bring change. They can place hundred of arguments from the security of their screens but once in the open become mute. They preach virtues to others when they themselves are sinful.]
Adam stayed silent. Wondering how the discussion went from making love with his aunt to discussing the fault and futility of humanity.
This was such a big leap that he was left lost about what to say. Thankfully, Adam was used to such sudden debate by now. It seemed like this was the only thing he had been doing lately in fact.
'I believe you are right in all front.'
Humanity was flawed. This was an undeniable fact. It was a flawed world filled with pain and suffering.
'They say that from afar, life is a comedy but from close up it was a tragedy.'
If the statistic were to be believed, tens of thousands of rape happened every year, more than a Hundred thousand people died every day and two people died every second. 110 deaths every minute, 6600 death every hour, and more than 158 000 death every day.
When you thought about the reality of this world, only a bleak picture appeared. As such, they simply ignored it.
He didn't know if it was an unconscious defensive mechanism but humans were abe to ignore many things.
All humans knew that they could die at any moment. But they ignored this impending death.
They made party for their birthday when it only means that they had one year less to live in this world.
They would hurt others without much hesitation when it came to their self interest as self-interest surpassed that of the race.
Even though humans were social animals, they were also extremely selfish and individualist.
What did not happen to them directly would never be more than an offthought.
Indeed. Humans were imperfect. Capable of both the greatest atrocities and the most selfless sacrifice at the drop of a hat.
A mass murderer could be a caring father and a man preaching the way of Heaven could be the greatest sinner of earth.
This was the duality of humanity, the reality of Good and evil.
"Honestly, wouldn't Eve be the best one for this discussion?"
After all, she was the one who bestowed humans the ability to perceive and understand good and evil after eating the forbidden fruit.
