Book 6: Chapter 44:1: Chen Heng: I Cower for a Reason, Part 1
Despite the circumstances, Satou Kazuma considered himself quite unlucky. The primary reason was his quirky teammates, who seemed determined to negate all his good luck. Sometimes, they even overpowered his luck, leaving the entire group in a deficit.
If Satou Kazuma left the team, he’d fare well on his own. His cunning, gaming experience, and a good dose of luck would ensure he thrived in this alternate world.
Without him? Let’s not talk about other people for now, but…Megumin would be rendered useless, Darkness might reluctantly return home to her vast fortune, and Aqua… Well, she’d be reduced to a mere water purifier. Of course, she could still send souls to the afterlife. Her quirky nature and dim wits aside, she was still a goddess.
“So, Kazuma, what did you spend all your points on? Even if you haven’t taken on many missions, you should still earn daily sign-in points, right?”
Satou Kazuma hesitated before replying, “I bought a Poké Ball.”
Slap! Chen Heng facepalmed.
If you’re wondering why Chen Heng was watching Satou Kazuma’s adventures, the reason was simple.
The abilities of adventurers in this world fascinated Chen Heng, so he also registered as one.
He picked the same basic adventurer class as Satou Kazuma, which allowed learning skills across classes.
Of course, the situations of the two were not quite the same. While Satou Kazuma had no choice, Chen Heng specifically chose this class, looking down on the rest.
His stats testing caused quite a stir at the Adventurer’s Guild. How to put it? His stats on the Adventurer Card were problematic. Furthermore, they were in the characters of another world. In any case, the guild receptionist, Luna, noted his off-the-charts abilities and said he could pick any class, even the highest-tier ones.
Then Chen Heng chose adventurer.
Chen Heng vividly recalled Luna’s shocked expression when he announced his choice of the adventurer class.
Despite her attempts to dissuade him, Chen Heng stood firm.
Chen Heng had his plans in choosing the adventurer class.
Although the adventurer class required more skill points to learn skills and was slightly less powerful, it offered versatility, allowing him to learn any skill from any class; that was great.
Plus, he could always switch later.
Chen Heng was more interested in skills like Steal or Drain Touch rather than explosion magic.
Chen Heng wondered whether the Steal he would learn—if he got Satou Kazuma to teach him Steal—would be like Satou Kazuma’s, mutating into a skill for stealing underwear. The user’s luck affected the Steal skill. He thought about how his luck was considered quite high.
[TL Note: Steal: Steal a target’s item at random. The item value depends on the user’s luck. Due to Satou Kazuma’s perverted nature, he often unintentionally (or intentionally) steals his female opponent’s underwear. Drain Touch: Absorbs MP and HP from a target, which, in turn, can be transferred to somebody else. It is more effective where the skin is thin and on spots near the heart.]
Learning skills required skill points, and the only way to gain skill points was by leveling up the adventurer class. Hence, Chen Heng came to kill monsters.
At first, Chen Heng planned on watching Satou Kazuma fight. In the end…
“Kazu-Kazuma, those Giant Toads are coming again!” Aqua, who was previously weakly lying on the grass, suddenly saw a large number of Giant Toads appearing behind them and immediately got to her feet.
“Everyone, prepare to… Run!” Everyone was exhausted from the prior battle, and with no energy left to deal with the Giant Toads, retreat was the only option, as fighting would be impossible.
The other party members lying on the grass also stood up and prepared to run. However, they found that no matter how hard they tried to run, they remained in place. Furthermore, they even seemed to be rising into the air.
“…Big Brother, what are you doing?”
“Why are you running? Aren’t I still here? I did nothing earlier to see your standards. Now that I have, I find it a bit of a cruel sight. Relying on you is impossible, so I will have to raise my level myself. Why else do you think I came with you? For a holiday?”
“Oh! Right! Big Brother is here!” Satou Kazuma suddenly came to his senses.
In all fairness, no one could really blame Satou Kazuma for his initial instinct to flee. That reflex had been honed by his teammates, who, more often than not, unintentionally set him up.
In his group, Satou Kazuma was arguably the only combatant with consistent fighting capability. Megumin could unleash only one powerful blow, while discussing Darkness would be…well, better left unsaid. Aqua mainly served as bait, leaving Satou Kazuma as the team’s last line of defense.
However, Satou Kazuma had the most ordinary class—adventurer—and his level wasn’t particularly high. Asking him to face a horde of Giant Toads all by himself was a tall order.
Once Chen Heng noticed they’d ceased trying to escape, he gently lowered the four from midair and hopped off his rock, advancing toward the oncoming horde of Giant Toads.
“Haha! You Giant Toads are all doomed! You thought you could eat me? Eat me?! This time, I’ll make sure not a piece of you remains intact!” Aqua, standing confidently behind Chen Heng, taunted the toads.
Having witnessed Chen Heng’s big move first-hand, Aqua was all too aware of how formidable he truly was.
“…” Should I…use Aqua as bait?
A thought suddenly popped into Chen Heng’s head, but it would be better to go with something practical.
“Hah…” Never mind. I’d better handle this myself.
Chen Heng sighed. Then, ten swords of various colors appeared behind him out of nowhere. The tips pointed at the horde of Giant Toads, continuously spinning around.
“Oh! Oh! This must be the legendary sword immortal! How awesome!” Satou Kazuma called out as he pointed at the swords behind Chen Heng when he saw this scene.
Chen Heng did not correct Satou Kazuma as, strictly speaking, he was a sword immortal. Granted, he had not become an immortal yet. However, he believed he would attain that.
Although he needed to pass a tribulation to become an immortal, the Dimension Administrators Association had life-saving means. Furthermore, he had so many “small gifts” from his ancestor. Most importantly, he had the electromagnetic control ability, which provided an extremely high resistance to electricity. And the crucial thing was he could turn into electricity.
Bring it on! It would just be mutual injury!
