Chapter 9 - Dragon Essence Liquid, Daoist Cultivators Follow Their Hearts!
Chapter 9: Dragon Essence Liquid, Daoist Cultivators Follow Their Hearts!
The soul appeared to be in its early forties, and it was none other than Zhang Beixuan’s target this time, Li Shan.
“Fortunately, I arrived just in time. His old turtle hasn’t had the chance to devour the soul yet,” Zhang Beixuan assessed as he took a look and breathed a sigh of relief. However, his gaze then turned towards the depths of the cave. While the exterior had an unpleasant, foul odour, the inside of the cave was devoid of such a smell. Instead, it carried a faint, chilling aura.
Zhang Beixuan took a step forward and ventured deeper into the cave. After a few seconds, his eyes narrowed slightly, and he spotted a stalactite-like stone pillar emitting a faint glow. Below the pillar lay a platform containing numerous crystal-clear water droplets. Unlike ordinary water, these droplets seemed to be individual entities, each encapsulated by a thin membrane.
“What a find!” Zhang Beixuan’s expression lit up with joy. He had initially relied on luck for this mission. After all, treasures were not something you could come across at will. But he had indeed stumbled upon something valuable.
Zhang Beixuan’s figure flashed, and he instantly appeared next to the stone pillar. He scooped up a droplet and held it in his hand, feeling a rich spiritual energy almost permeate through his body. In his mind, he received information about this substance.
“【Dragon Essence Liquid】: Formed from the convergence of the natural spiritual energy of the earth and sky through dragon veins, it condenses one droplet every month. When consumed by innate beings, it can advance one realm, and for monsters, it can enhance their cultivation!”
“Damn! It can enhance cultivation!” Zhang Beixuan exclaimed internally. No wonder this old turtle had such formidable power despite only practising for a few hundred years. It turned out he had claimed a treasure trove.
It was truly regrettable for the Arowana Demon to possess such a treasure and still harbour ill intentions towards the cultivation of others. If it had stayed here, becoming a Demon King wouldn’t have taken long.
But everything was governed by destiny and causality. Zhang Beixuan’s slaying of the Arowana Demon was also a part of the natural order. However, this substance was only effective for innate beings and was useless to him. He decided to use it as a dowry in the future. Without hesitation, Zhang Beixuan collected the Dragon Essence Liquid, which amounted to over a hundred droplets. After completing this, he used a golden light to shatter the cage, seized Li Shan’s soul, and left.
It was nearly midnight at the foot of Dragon Tiger Mountain, at Li Shan’s home. Li Xiaojia and her mother anxiously waited in front of Li Shan’s house. The village elder and others were engaged in idle conversation, but Zhang Beixuan had been gone for so long. Why hadn’t he returned yet?
Just as they anxiously waited, footsteps suddenly approached from outside the courtyard. A young Daoist in purple robes quietly arrived. When Li Xiaojia and her mother saw Zhang Beixuan, their expressions lit up with joy.
Zhang Cuihong hurriedly approached Zhang Beixuan and asked cautiously, “Little Celestial Master, how did it go?”
Li Xiaojia blinked, her face filled with anticipation as she looked at Zhang Beixuan.
Zhang Beixuan smiled slightly and nodded, “Everything went smoothly.”
Upon hearing this, both of them visibly relaxed, finally letting out a sigh of relief. Bringing Li Shan’s soul back to his body was not difficult at all. It had taken only a few minutes of effort. When the transparent apparition merged with Li Shan’s physical body, a notification from the system rang in Zhang Beixuan’s mind.
“Ding! Congratulations to the host for completing the system task: Killing the evil spirit and rescuing Li Shan’s soul!”
“Rewards: [Fifty Years of Cultivation] [Martial Arts Upgrade Card *1]”
With the system’s voice, Zhang Beixuan felt a surge of terrifying primordial energy erupting from his dantian. It lasted for over ten seconds before dissipating. This task completion significantly boosted his overall aura.
“So, this completes the system task?” Zhang Beixuan’s expression lit up with joy. He glanced at his system panel:
【Host: Zhang Beixuan】
【Realm: Innate Initial Stage (15.1%)】
【Artifact: Celestial Master Daoist Robe (Pristine Taoist Treasure)】
【Technique: Golden Light Mantra (Max Level)】
【Points: 1200 (Available for system lottery) – Whiteboard lottery: 300 points (0/10) (Ten times unlocks the Bronze lottery)】
【Special Title: Savior of All Beings (Attraction to the opposite sex +50)】
The reward of fifty years of cultivation had raised his innate realm by an additional fifteen percent. This meant he was now about three hundred years of cultivation away from breaking through to the Innate realm. According to the system’s progress, it didn’t seem too far off.
“Master… Why hasn’t my husband awakened yet?” Zhang Cuihong looked worriedly at the still-sleeping Li Shan.
“Although Mr. Li’s soul has returned, it has been separated from his body for a day and has been tainted by yin energy, causing this situation,” Zhang Beixuan explained after a brief pause. He took a yellow talisman from his pocket and infused it with primordial energy.
“Place this talisman around Mr. Li’s neck, and he will awaken early tomorrow morning.”
With Zhang Beixuan’s current level of cultivation, even something as simple as this talisman infused with primordial energy would be beyond the abilities of ordinary malevolent spirits to resist. At least, it would have been impossible for the female ghost he dealt with earlier.
When Zhang Cuihong heard this, her face showed a moment of hesitation. However, she eventually accepted the talisman. Even though she was a village woman, she understood that an item crafted by Zhang Beixuan himself held extraordinary value. Even the wealthiest individuals couldn’t obtain such an item. She took a bundle of crumpled banknotes from her pocket and handed them to Zhang Beixuan.
“Little Celestial Master… You’ve helped us so much, please don’t mind these. They might not be much.”
Zhang Beixuan looked at the banknotes, slightly surprised, and then smiled. He picked out one note from the stack. “Offerings are still necessary, but this should be enough.”
When Zhang Beixuan pushed the money back to her, Zhang Cuihong seemed like she wanted to insist further. However, Zhang Beixuan waved his hand.
“I’ve been cared for by all of you in the mountains these years. I’ve merely done a small favour,” Zhang Beixuan nodded.
Afterwards, he bowed slightly. “I’ll take my leave now.”
With that, Zhang Beixuan turned and departed. Daoist cultivators followed their hearts. It was only suitable to repay the kindness of three years of offerings.
