Chapter 36
C36 – Cao Faang’s Ridicule
Qi Ning looked at Cao Faang with a self-assured smile. “I’m just concerned that you might end up feeling embarrassed later on.”
Cao Faang burst into laughter. “Me, embarrassed? That’s laughable!”
Once her laughter subsided, she pointed at Qi Ning and said, “Forget about making it into the top ten, I doubt you could even rank in the bottom ten. You’re utterly shameless!”
“I’ll have you know I’m more familiar with your academic performance than anyone else. I acknowledge that you’ve put in a lot of effort.”
“However, effort has never outweighed talent and family background, not in any era.”
“Pick anyone at random from our class, and they have more talent and a better family background than you. So what makes you think you can achieve good grades?”
Qi Ning hadn’t anticipated Cao Faang’s lengthy response.
“Ms. Cao, you must realize that people are capable of change!” he said, his voice brimming with a confidence he had never felt before.
Cao Faang’s mockery was relentless. “You’ve been reading too many novels, haven’t you? Such fantasies you speak of simply don’t occur in the real world.”
With that, Cao Faang turned to leave. But as she did, she caught sight of Wen Shangwei, who was staring at her in astonishment.
She generously waved at Wen Shangwei. “The title of outstanding class will be ours this time.”
Wen Shangwei looked back at her, clearly confused.
“You’re aware of Qi Ning’s poor performance. It’s precisely because of this failure that your Class 3 has consistently won the title of excellence.”
“But I’m afraid that title will be out of your reach this time.”
Seeing Wen Shangwei’s look of surprise, Cao Faang smiled smugly. “Unless something unexpected happens, you’re going to miss out on this year’s award.”
Then, with a sudden look of epiphany, she said to Wen Shangwei, “Actually, I should thank you. Without Qi Ning in your class, our class wouldn’t stand a chance at the excellence award this year.”
“When payday comes around this month, I’ll definitely treat you to a meal and even throw in a packet of tea leaves as a bonus!”
Wen Shangwei found Cao Faang’s confidence somewhat baffling.
“Ms. Cao, since you haven’t even seen Qi Ning’s latest grades, how can you be so sure of your claims?” Wen Shangwei asked, his tone casual.
Cao Faang scoffed. “Do I need to see the results? I’m certain he’s at the very bottom.”
“Ms. Cao!” Qi Ning’s face was dark with humiliation after Cao Faang’s insult. “There’s something you might not be aware of.”
Cao Faang gave Qi Ning a puzzled look.
Qi Ning continued, “How you treat others reflects the kind of person you are. Surely, as a teacher, you’re not ignorant of such a basic principle?”
At these words, Cao Faang’s anger flared.
“What did you just say?” Cao Faang snapped, her hand raised to strike Qi Ning.
But Qi Ning swiftly sidestepped the blow.
Cao Faang stared at him in disbelief, astounded by his audacity.
He would never have dared to evade her like that before.
“I’m not angry!” Cao Faang inhaled deeply, trying to compose herself. “Regardless, this year’s award for the outstanding class will be ours. And I’ve always outperformed you in gaming. Therefore, the title of this year’s exceptional senior teaching director is undoubtedly mine.”
With those words, Cao Faang strode off toward the teaching director’s office, a smug expression on her face.
