Chapter 354: Chapter 354 – Approaching the Last Storyline
"Cheers! For our success and for our fallen brothers!"
"Cheers!"
All mercenaries returned to the base in Daigon Valley. They had a party and drank ale and mead, drinks preferred by people in this era.
The cutscene still played and Max watched from the side, grumbling.
"This is the chance to taste the alcohol in this game, why am I here instead?"
As someone who couldn't handle a lot of alcohol in IRL, he wanted to at least be forced to drink in the game by the storyline. However, the game didn't seem to allow it and even the restaurant didn't provide alcohol. The reason was pretty simple.
— This is a PG-15 game lol. No drink in forced story is permitted
— What do you expect? If the game doesn't use the cutscene for this part, many children will drink. That's a no-no in PG-15 game
— Mercenary Quest Dev: Let them drink! Children who play: HUEHEHEHE mead! Police: GET OVER HERE!
— ^^ This explains why the drinking scene is only in a cutscene. It shows mercenaries also drink while preventing underage players from doing so
— There is mead in the bar if you want to drink. However, you have to verify your age first
"Meh, that's not fun. I just want to feel the atmosphere of finishing something big and then celebrating it together." He said, getting close to his character and sitting next to him. "Anyway, this kind of celebration seems to work like a meeting. Is Caesar going to review our performance?"
The atmosphere didn't seem like people celebrating their success. It was natural since they lost 20 people, but mercenaries already knew about that. Which meant there was another reason why they looked rather bleak.
Caesar gulped a barrel of mead straight from it. His stomach was bulging from the liquid he took. He finished the barrel in just one big gulp.
Bam!
Slamming the barrel on the ground, Caesar wiped his lips with his wrist and looked at everyone else.
"We have successfully altered the Behemoth's course. We have lost 20 courageous men. As they also have people to take care of, we will use some money from our treasury to help their family."
No one objected. Stronghold Mercenary would always give proper compensation to the deceased's family. If their family members had no job, sometimes they even offered to work in the base as a waitress or porter.
"Now that's one danger avoided. Now, we have another problem." Caesar narrowed his eyes, "Behemoth is a highly territorial monster. The only reason why it didn't continue on its track is because I made sure to tell it that area is my territory. So, how could such a monster leave its own territory?"
Everyone looked at Caesar. They stopped drinking and the atmosphere seemed to freeze at once. The quick-witted mercenaries immediately understood what he implied.
But, unexpectedly…
"There is a monster stronger than Behemoth that drove it out of its territory."
Max's character spoke with his voice. The game's Artificial Intelligence had collected enough samples for them to replicate it, surprising even Max.
"I am speaking!" He exclaimed in surprise.
— Of course, duh. You can speak
— lol no, he means it's his character that speaks
— obviously, smart sheet. Everyone knows that. The person above you is just trolling
— This is amazing, though. Not all games implement this kind of stuff.
— The character now looks like an intelligent person in the game lore! This is fun
— Breeze: I am speaking! My reaction: So what did you do until now? Whistling?
"That's not the point." Max retorted, "Let me focus on the cutscene now. It's getting to an interesting point."
No one denied the idea. While humans classified monsters into 4 classes, from Small to Colossal, there was still a hierarchy among those monsters. For example, Raxor and Drilly. It was clear the former was far stronger than the latter.
Wild life had no concept of classes. They only understood that stronger creatures would reign on top.
And there was such a creature out there, stronger than even a Behemoth that humans couldn't help but fear. Just its existence brought dread and destruction. So… what kind of creature was it?
"Grandfirma." Someone muttered in horror, his whole body trembling in fear just by saying its name.
"It could only be that monster." Another one agreed, fear was clear in his eyes. "There are no other monsters that can possibly drive a Behemoth away. That flying lizard is the only one."
"Grandfirma?" Max raised his voice curiously, stroking his chin. "From the flying lizard description… Is this monster a dragon?"
— Yes
— Grandfirma is the oldest dragon out there, feared by many and its food is mostly Large-Class and Colossal-Class monster
— It gained a moniker of Colossal Eater due to how it only targeted giant monsters as food source
— While it helps protect human settlement by eating Large and Colossal-Class monsters, it doesn't mean that it's friendly.
— Moniker: Destruction Bringer, Glutton Dragon, Colossal Eater.
"That's scary. I now understand why those experienced mercenaries tremble just by hearing its name."
Caesar nodded heavily.
"It's as I feared. Grandfirma has become active once again. Meaning, that the tribulation era has arrived. Monsters from the Dark Area will be more active. Expect more sightings near the border." He said, "Report this matter to mercenary guilds. We won't be able to handle it alone."
"Got it!" Jamal replied in a serious tone. He was the one responsible for connecting Stronghold Mercenary with the outside. That was why he stayed in Utopia station instead of the base.
Looking around at his member, Caesar raised a new barrel filled with mead.
"Even if the tribulation era arrived, I believe you won't have any difficulty. The mercenaries I gathered are all strong! We will survive and become humanity's last stronghold! CHEERS!"
"Cheers!"
Everyone raised their mugs and shouted loudly.
At that moment, the cutscene ended and Max could move his body again. The notifications that were held from the cutscene finally appeared in front of his eyes.
[Colossal-Class Sighting! Behemoth! Completed!]
[Rewards: 25,000 Gills, 1,000 Reputations, Behemoth's Spike Shard, Behemoth's Rock, Behemoth's Pelt.]
[The main storyline (part 1) has ended! Please wait for future updates to continue.]
[All available maps are open. Reputation is high enough to accept all quests on board.]
[Have fun hunting, player.]
"It's over…" Max muttered as he looked at the notification.
[Niuda has donated 500 diamonds!]
[LovelyOtter has donated 1,500 diamonds!]
[TrueHunters has donated 700 diamonds!]
[NoOneCare has donated 650 diamonds!]
Many donations poured in and he thanked every single one of them. Moving on, he focused on one part of the notification.
"That was part 1? It's worth around 10 hours of story, maybe more if we add the fighting. Still, it was fun while it lasted. I can't wait for part 2. Is there any information about it?"
— In Q3 this year
— They will update this soon, it's been more than a year since it released
— The DLC will be released soon, don't worry!
— You shouldn't worry about that. You better hunt for better equipment first. Your equipment is trash!
— Take quests and get some new equipment first, Breeze. Part 2 will become increasingly difficult
"That's a good idea." He nodded as he accepted the viewers' suggestion. "But that's it for today. I will probably livestream material grinding in the future. For now, let's end it for today and see you tomorrow!"
— See you tomorrow!
— That was fun
— Finally, it's over!
— See you!
After reading the chat for a few seconds, Max operated the screen and ended the livestream.
[Livestream Ended!]
