CH.227 Parasitic Armored Jacket

CH.227 Parasitic Armored Jacket

I woke up in the morning, with my girlfriend sleeping next to me. Ria was getting dressed, so I probably woke up to the sounds from that, as I usually do. Lua on the other hand didn’t seem to care, so I just let her sleep for a bit longer, and headed for the factory. It’s just normal for me, and as long as I have Laura keeping an eye on things outside, I should realize when Lua wakes up.

Of course there is a reason I immediately jumped here. I wanted to run some experiments here before I did them in the real world. If something messes up here, all I’ll lose is the Pack Opener cards I use, but outside, I’ll lose everything. … Okay, that is a bit of an exaggeration. But I might lose my new armor, before I even had a chance to use it in combat.

Now why didn’t I just leave this for Laura to do during the night? Well, I feel like I’ve been pushing too many things on her already, so I wanted to do it myself. And I don’t really get to do these experiments, as they just are something Laura usually does, so I’m honestly a bit excited.

First things first, I checked on the ‘real time’ room, or whatever I should call it. Someone, probably Tahlia, had let the blacksmithing forge out of my storage and it was now there. I saw no monsters there at the moment, so I assume they are taking a break. … remind me to reward Kotetsu and Hinotama Soul at some point. I think I’ll do it after they convert Ria’s armor into a better metal. … I’ll also have to reward the vampires. Add that to the list.

I have too many monsters. No one person could ever use them all.

Anyway, I also checked my storage, and saw that some of the iron I bought had been converted into blood iron. Other than that, it doesn’t seem like they had done anything else. The interesting part was the quality of the blood iron. When I bought the wrought iron, it was Intermediate+ in quality, but after putting it in storage and using Material Quality Increase, it became High quality. But now, I had Flawless quality blood iron in my storage. Sure some of it is because they likely used dragon blood again. Or the blood from another high ranking monster, so that would help, but I feel like they just used the Material Quality Increase first on the iron, and then again on the blood iron. I know the Material Quality Increase can only be used once per item, but at what point has the item changed to the point where it can be used again?

Well, back to why I came here. I made a few armor stands with a combination of Dungeon Founder and just Different Dimension Factory shenanigans, and put copies of both my and Ria’s armor on them. Three of each, just so I had a decent sized test. Then I got out a few copies of Metallizing Parasite - Lunatite so I could start.

Spoiler

“... guess I’ll start with one of my own. They should have a higher chance of success, as they have the better materials…” I muttered to myself.

I held a copy of Metallizing Parasite - Lunatite up to one of the copies of my armor and said: “Install.”

I looked as the leather jacket changed. It looked like someone poured clear viscous fluid over it, and the fluid formed hardened into a layer on top of the base leather, making the armor seem… shiny.

“... it worked, I guess.”

But I still don’t know the difference between the base and this one, so I placed my right hand on the upgraded armor and analyzed it with Dungeon Founder. Though I made sure all of the data was only stored in my Storage, instead of being sent to the dungeon. I don’t want the dungeon making liquid metal parasite armor.

I checked the new info I got.

Armored Crimson Boa Jacket - Parasitic Mithril Metal Inserts

[Defense +400]
[Magic Resistance - 90% damage reduced]
[Fire Resistance - 50% damage reduced]
[Ranged Attack Resistance - 30% damage reduced]
[Lightened - 30% weight]
[Durability 3200/3200]

[Parasitic - When worn, the wearer will lose 1 HP every five seconds.]

A leather jacket made from Crimson Boa hide. Because of the hide used, it is naturally fire resistant. It has mithril plates inserted into critical places to make it more defensive. It has been enchanted to make it lighter and to improve its resistance to ranged attacks. A metal parasite was later added to it, making it a parasite armor. While the parasite does offer unparalleled resistance to magic, it will also drain away the wearers HP.

“... well, that’s something.” I muttered.

A metal parasite jacket. And the effects on it are … I think they are insane. 400 defense is already good, and add to that the three resistances. And I think the resistances stack. So if I’m hit by a ranged fire magic spell, it should only have 3.5% of the original power. Even just ranged magic will have its power cut to 7%.

Now the Parasitic could be a problem, but it shouldn’t. For me, at least. Health Conscious should completely negate that damage. I think. But there is an easy way to find out.

I pulled the jacket off of the armor stand and put it on. It still felt just as good as it had previously, so this should be fine. But there was clearly something moving inside of the jacket. It felt a bit … strange, but nothing you couldn’t get used to. And for 90% magic resistance, I say it's worth it.

I then installed a Lunatite into the two other copies of my armor, just to make sure the first one was not a fluke. But lucky for me, the other two came out basically the same as this one. There were minor differences between the armors, like 1% more magic resistance at the cost of the HP drain being every 4 seconds instead, or about 200 more durability, at the cost of the magic resistance being lowered by 1%, but they were basically the same.

“Good. It does seem reliable.” I concluded, before moving to Ria’s stuff. “Install.”

After I installed a Metallizing Parasite - Lunatite into one of the copies of Ria’s armor, the metal that had been inside of it seemed to melt, and just began to drip out of the armor. First only a bit, but eventually all of it flowed out, leaving just a slightly damaged jacket behind.

I analyzed it, and it came out as a damaged Crimson Boa jacket. The description told a bit more about the status of it, but the conclusion is that it needed some major repair work, and all new metal plates if you wanted it to be usable.

I tried another two times, and had two different results. On one, the metal heated so much that it half melted the fire resistant Boa hide, leaving the jacket in a state where you would have no choice but to just scrap it.

The other one thought seemed like a success.

Armored Crimson Boa Jacket - Parasitic Bronze Metal Inserts

[Defense +150]
[Magic Resistance - 35% damage reduced]
[Fire Resistance - 50% damage reduced]
[Toughness - 40% durability increase]
[Lightened - 30% weight]
[Durability 1960/1960]

[Parasitic - When worn, the wearer will lose 1 HP every second.]

A leather jacket made from Crimson Boa hide. Because of the hide used, it is naturally fire resistant. It has thin bronze plates inserted all over, to make it more defensive. It has been enchanted to make it lighter and to improve its durability. A metal parasite was later added to it, making it a parasite armor. While the parasite does offer resistance to magic, it will also drain away the wearers HP.

Okay. Well, I’m not sure if that counts as a success. I mean sure it did come out … okay, but at the same time, it really didn’t. First of all, it is a ton weaker than mine. The defense is only about 40% of what mine has. The magic resistance is 35% compared to the 90% on mine. And even with the Toughness enchantment, the durability is also a lot lower. … unless durability affects the speed at which the durability drains, instead of increasing the shown durability, like the Unbreaking enchantment in Minecraft. Well, either way, it is still less than mine has. And last but certainly not least, the Parasitic is a lot worse. 1 HP every second, compared to the every five seconds, is just bad. Ria has 2060 HP and she could wear it for only 30 minutes. Well, natural HP regeneration and healing magic might help, but still. She would need to constantly heal herself, or risk the armor literally draining her life away. The only reason something like this would be even remotely usable is that it would probably help in getting a skill like Fast HP Recovery. Or would it just be Regeneration? Well, the name doesn’t really matter.

Of course I always have the choice of installing Spell Economics into Ria. That will give her the Health Conscious skill, so the life drain effect will be negated. … or maybe I can install it right on the armor instead. Let’s try it.

I went back to the mithril armors, and picked the one with the 91% magic resistance and the 4 second HP drain. It had the bigger downside for the bigger upside, so if I could prevent the downside, this would be the best of these. And considering that I already destroyed two of the three bronze armors, I don’t think they could take another install.

I took out a copy of Spell Economics and installed it.

Spoiler

Screech!

Only to hear a terrifying sound coming from the armor. It sounded like metal rubbing against metal and it let out a literal ear screeching sound. I covered my ears out of reflex, but after a few seconds, the sound stopped.

I looked at the armor. It looked … fine. No visible damage or anything. I honestly thought it was breaking apart considering the sound, but it seems fine.

I analyzed it to make sure, only to realize just how wrong I was.

Armored Crimson Boa Jacket - Parasitic (dead) Mithril Metal Inserts

[Defense +250]
[Magic Resistance - 30% damage reduced]
[Fire Resistance - 50% damage reduced]
[Ranged Attack Resistance - 30% damage reduced]
[Lightened - 30% weight]
[Durability 2700/2700]

A leather jacket made from Crimson Boa hide. It has mithril plates inserted into critical places to make it more defensive. Because of the hide used, it is naturally fire resistant. It has been enchanted to make it lighter and to improve its resistance to ranged attacks. A metal parasite was later added to it, and then killed. While some of the parasite's magic resistance remained, a large portion of it was lost when the parasite died.

Yeah. It did get rid of the parasite, but it also basically ruined the armor. Well, not quite but still. 150 drop in defense. Magic Resistance went from 91% to 30%. And the durability decreased by 500. All around, just terrible. Dealing with the life drain effect is much better. At least for me, as the life drain is clearly not affecting me at all.

With my test complete, I cleared the armors away. Now that I had the data on them, I could just recreate them in the factory whenever I wanted. Not that I need them here for anything except experimentation. But what I learned today was that while my armor could support a Metallizing Parasite - Lunatite, Ria’s couldn’t. So we’ll have to at least change the metal before I can install one for her. And at the same time, it might not be worth it, unless I install Spell Economics into her.

Then with everything cleared, I returned to the real world and waited for Lua to wake up.

“Good morning, sleepy head.” I playfully woke up Lua, by poking her cheek. I had already changed clothes and was ready to go for breakfast.

As to why I had to wake up Lua, well Ria had already returned from her breakfast and had given me the information to prepare for our breakfast as well, so I really had no choice. Even though I did enjoy looking at Lua’s sleeping face.

“.... eh..? where? B-Brian?” Lua said, still clearly half asleep.

“Yes. It is I, Brian.” I joked. “You should wake up now. We need to get ready for breakfast.”

“... where? Oh. … We … I …” Lua muttered something, as she seemed to finally realize where she was.

“Yes, we are in the Sawyer manor.” I reminded her, trying to bring her back to reality.

“... I see. … I guess it was just a dream then.”

“Oh? Did you have a good dream?” I asked.

“... yes. … I hope I get to see it again.” She said.

I wanted to ask for more information about it, but I feel like that might not be the best idea. Instead, I gave her the space she needed to get up and get changed.

… I guess this is a good time to mention something about Lua’s Dhampir Princess. Or Princess’s Grace to be precise. It can store multiple dresses made by the skill, but it can only store one ‘non-dress’ outfit. And in Lua’s case, that was the combination of the t-shirt, jeans and hoodie that I made her. If she wanted to change into other ‘casual’ clothes, like nightwear, she would have to do it the normal way. She could likely make herself a night dress, but she hasn’t done it yet, so she can’t swap her clothes with the skill.

A second thing worth mentioning is that no one else can wear clothes made by Princess’s Grace. Lua can remove them just fine, and even store them in things like a magic bag, or I can take them into my storage, but no one else can actually wear them. I don’t really know why, but Ria did attempt to put on Lua’s mantle, but she just couldn’t. Like there was some sort of a force field blocking her from putting it on. The same went for the mace. If someone other than Lua tried to use it, it would hurt them. As in cause literal HP damage to you, as well as plenty of pain. Sure I could negate the HP damage, Health Conscious, but I couldn’t negate the pain it inflicted. Not quite Thor’s hammer, but still an effective anti-use measure.

But it might still be useful if she could hand it over to someone else without the weapon hurting them. I wonder if something like the slave contract I have with Ria would prevent the damage. After all, for my cards, Ria is counted as ‘mine’. Aka. cards that only affect my opponent, don’t affect Ria. Some sort of a system contract does seem to be necessary for it, so maybe. … If I get officially engaged to Lua, will she count as being ‘mine’? I guess one way to find out, but let’s not rush into that. There might be a way more simple of an answer for what happened.

I left the room and stood in the corridor, so that Lua could change in peace.
