Chapter 43 Entering The Colosseum

The man looked around and saw a small knife at a distance. It looked like someone had dropped it from above.

"Those goddamn peasants. Always waking me up." he muttered as he rubbed his eyes and looked at the two newcomers who stood in front of him.

"What the hell are you here for?" he asked lazily.

Before Myriad Arrows could talk, Jake pulled him back.

"We are here to bet on two contestants. New ones." Jake said.

"You know that you can't bet on yourselves right?" the man said as he yawned, looking to the side and then the other one. Not once did he pay proper attention to the people in front of him.

But Jake was not the least bit angry. He smiled and nodded.

"I want to bet on him winning ten battles. One gold on that." he said as he took out one gold coin.

The drowsiness on the man's face immediately disappeared as he stood upright and looked at Jake with surprise.

"One gold on this midget winning? A level twenty? You must be kidding."

"What are the odds? They should be pretty askew." Jake smiled.

"One is to a hundred. If you do manage to win, then I will be shocked." he said.

"Good. Then he wants to bet on me as well. Ten gold on me this time. The odds should be better on me than on him right?" Jake asked.

"One is to seven hundred. You have to be kidding. Swimming in gold coins, are we? Why don't you bet a little more?" the man smiled, rubbing his hands.

"We will start small for now, and after we win and level up a little, then I will come to you." Jake smiled and took out a whole eleven gold coins and handed it to the man.

The man nodded and gave him a ticket.

Pocketing the ticket, they walked away, back to the perimeter of the colosseum.

"You bet that much? And why did you bet before registering? You have to be registered right?" Myriad Arrows asked.

"It's hard to find that guy. Sometimes he's there, sometimes he's not. Well then, let us go register." Jake said as they continued walking when they chanced upon a line.

This line was filled with people: players and NPCs alike.

"It looks like there are many people who are interested in the Colosseum. I am really interested in seeing who can actually accomplish something here. It will be a good place to recruit." Jake nodded as he and Myriad Arrows went to the back of the line.

The line moved slowly, and they could not even see what was at the beginning.

But the number of players here only meant one thing. This was the registration.

All of them stared at the newcomers and glared at the clear outlier. Jake, with his rusty boots, sword, and armor, looked like he was in a worse state than someone who had just started the game. It looked like his equipment would give him negative stats.

As they snickered at him, the line progressed, and after half an hour, the line finally stopped with Jake and Myriad Arrows.

There was a desk just like before, but the man behind it was not so arrogant. It was just your normal NPC taking care of things.

"Names."

"Shadow King."

"Myriad Arrows."

"Registered. Ten silvers each for the registration price." the man said.

"Haha! Look at that guy! Does he look like he can afford a ten silver registration purchase?" someone shouted from the back of the line.

Jake did not mind him and handed out twenty silvers, for both him and Myriad Arrows.

The man then handed them two wooden tokens with two numbers written.

"Let us get going. Remember, try your best to win. I have a whole gold coin running on you. But don't worry if you don't. You are against strong opponents. Just try not to die. Losing a level will be kind of sad after all that you have done to level up." Jake smiled.

"We aren't going to be in the same place?" Myriad Arrows asked.

"Look at your token. Once you get to the Colosseum, you will understand just what this place is." Jake shook his head and smiled.

Myriad Arrows turned his palm to look at the engraving on the wooden token. The number '6' was written with a rough carving.

As for Jake, he had the number '4'.

They walked past the registration desk and the massive pillars to walk into the Colosseum itself. As they neared the massive clearance, they could hear a progressively louder sound. It was the sound of people shouting, cheering in fact.

p As they walked further, and the sunlight shone upon them, the sound reached its apex. The noise of hundreds of thousands of people shouting was deafening.

Looking around, every seat of the Colosseum was occupied. At this point in the game, it was NPCs who occupied these seats, but soon enough, players and guild recruiters would occupy these seats as well.

And at the center, where all the action was happening, it was not just one stage that everyone shared.

There were arenas. Elevations within the giant stage. Ten in total. And they were clearly numbered with holographs on top of them.

"So we have to fight in a small group?"

"That's right. If it was just one giant stage, then it would be way too chaotic for people to get any fun out of it." Jake said as he walked to his own arena.

Both of their arenas were near the center, so it took just a minute to walk up to them. Now separated though, they were on their own.

Jake did not even glance at Myriad Arrows. With an Epic class, he was going to be fine.

Taking out his Sword of Misery, he looked at the people on top of the stage with fierce eyes. Now, all he had to do was kill all of them so that he could not just increase his levels, but also become rich in the process.
