Chapter 128: That's The Plan
Alvin and the others looked at Linfel, who just stood on the branch of a tree. "You won't help?"
Linfel shrugged. "What's the point of me helping? Just stop complaining and go for it. If things grow too dangerous, I'll step in."
Milia narrowed her eyes but immediately ran forward. Her Magic Energy circulated through her meridians as Fire Element took form. At the same time, Nori changed into his Flaming Blade form, landing on Milia's hand. They didn't use the Master Familiar Connection, but that didn't mean they couldn't use each other.
"Shit!" As for Alvin, his weapon had always been his gloves, which Felia transformed. Yet, Felia stayed back in Serfen with Alvin's father, so he had no weapon to use.
Nonetheless, he also ran forward and controlled his Magic Energy while remembering Linfel's Magic Control training. Finally, a pair of spikes made of hard rock formed on his fists through his control of Earth Element. "I'll take the front since I'm better a defense. Milia, Nori, wait for an opening and strike it down."
"Alright!" Milia immediately accepted together with Nori.
*Zsha!*
The centipede noticed it was seen and gave up hiding. It immediately jumped out of the cover of the forest and pounced at Alvin, who was closest. It was five meters long and had powerful jaws. Above all, it could use its body and the Magic Energy in its core to use its body as a spring to pounce.
"Fuck!" Alvin didn't expect the centipede to be that fast. He lifted his Erth Spikes to block the attack just as the centipede was about to strike his chest.
*Bang!*
A Level Four Magic Beast was no joke. Alvin was instantly sent flying by the force of the attack, losing his balance in the process.
The centipede took that chance and pounced again. However...
*Tsssss... swish!*
The flaming sword from Milia came slashing down from the side, using the perfect moment where the centipede struck Alvin's defenses to land a hit on its body. She wasn't considered a genius back in Heffal for nothing. Even Alvin, who received Linfel's full attention in th past months of training, still wasn't as precise as her.
*Clang!*
*Crack!*
Yet, the Centipede's defenses were hard to break. All Milia managed to do was create a small crack on the carapace of the Magic Beast before the centipede turned its attention to her. Its tail, which was about to be use as the support for it to spring forward, suddenly changed direction, swinging straight at Milia's torso.
*Pam!*
However, an Earth Pillar appeared out of nowhere, creating a barrier between the tail and Milia. Milia had bought enough time for Alvin to regain his balance, which he used to stomp the ground and send his Earth Element through it, creating that Earth Pillar. It didn't have enough power to injure the Centipede, but it definitely could use for defense.
*Bang! Boom!*
The Earth Pillar was easily shattered into countless pieces. However, that also gave Milia the time to step back. Alvin, Milia, and Nori were working very well together. Their time in the army wasn't forgotten yet.
*Ksssssss...*
The centipede didn't end its assault, though. From the start of the fight, it hasn't been injured in the least, and only a small crack in its carapace could be seen, which didn't bother it. Even worse, it understood Alvin and Milia didn't have enough attack power to get past its defenses, so it shot forward with even more power.
Alvin didn't lose his calm. He now had more time to understand what kind of monster he was facing, and his Magic Energy was practically full still. Alvin also shot forward, meeting the centipede's jaws without any fear. Just as the two were about to crash, Alvin's Earth Element intensified on his legs, and he sent it through the ground one more.
*Zash!*
*Bang!*
Another Earth Pillar shot from the ground, hitting the centipede from below. Its carapace also covered the bottom, so it didn't receive any damage. That's what Alvin was aiming at, though. Instead, the Earth Pillar changed the centipede's direction slightly, which he used to strike the side of its head with his Earth Spike fists.
*Bang, bang!*
The force of the centipede and Alvin's all-out attack met each other, and both of them were forced back. Yet, Alvin faintly smiled in response. He knew he managed to send the centipede in the right direction.
*Shaaaa, swish!*
Milia's Flaming Sword came from the side once again. This time, even more flames sprouted from the sword as Nori used his Magic Energy to the maximum. It could be even higher if Nori and Milia were using Master Familiar Connections, but Linfel prohibited that. It didn't matter, though. Milia was definitely good enough to hit the same place twice!
*tsssssss...*
The Flaming Sword broke through the cracked part of the centipede's carapace, piercing deep into its body. Flames burst from inside it, causing excruciating pain to the centipede.
*Kssssss!!!*
The centipede immediately forgot Alvin and attacked Milia, but Alvin wouldn't just let it do as it wished. He attacked once again during that small window where the centipede was struck and felt the pain.
*Bang! Bang!*
His Earth Spike Fists hit the centipede's head twice, making the centipede go dizzy for a moment.
Its survival instincts immediately kicked in, and the centipede rolled its body all over, eventually forcing Milia away with Nori in her hands. Right after, it turned around and shot away!
"It's trying to flee. Are you truly willing to let your first Level Four Magic Beast escape?" Linfel's voice came from the tree away.
Milia, Alvin, and Nori obviously wouldn't let that happen. They were now faster, thanks to the serious injury they left behind on the centipede's body, quickly catching up to it.
From that point onwards, it was an attrition battle. Milia and Alvin didn't take any big risks. Yet, because the centipede was heavily injured, all that extra movement only made things worse. Finally...
*Pucth!*
Milia's sword managed to pierce the centipede's body once again, this time near the head, right in the middle of its back. That severed several connections the centipede had with the rest of its body, and it began to wriggle everywhere without control.
*Sush, sush, sush!*
Several Earth Spike sprout from the earth, courtesy of Alvin. They were still not strong enough to pierce its carapace, but they definitely could make some strong impacts to worsen the centipedes inside.
Then, five minutes later, the centipede stopped, and its purple blood was the only thing that still moved as it spread through the ground.
Linfel then came flying and landed on the tired shoulder of Alvin. "Not bad, not bad at all. You truly learned how to save your Magic Energy well. I can see you still have over half of your reserves."
He looked at Milia and Nori in the next second. "Milia is definitely much better at moving her body, no doubt due to her talent and the intense training she received both in the academy and her family estate. However, both Milia and Nori's Magic Energies are almost completely spent. I'll focus on both your Magic Energy Control training from now own, so you better be prepared.
Alvin couldn't help but feel sorry for Milia and Nori. "Errr... just try to not kill them, will you?"
Nori didn't like Linfel's comments at all. He quickly returned to his Familiar Form, complaining. "Do you even have the right to talk like that?! You did nothing! Weren't you just afraid of the centipede and pretended to be all bossy? Uh?
UH?!"
*Kabrum!*
Suddenly, a blade of lightning appeared in the air. It happened so fast that it sent shivers in Nori's core. That blade of Lightning slashed the Centipede's carapace, splitting it in half in a single go. From inside, a Level Four Core came rolling out intact. "My second Level Four Core... Not bad, not bad..."
Nori swallowed all his words in a second. That carapace, which Milia, Alvin, and himself had so much difficulty breaking, was cut through by Linfel's attack as if it was made of butter. No, it was even worse. Linfel cut the Centipede's body segment in half, so he attack had to cut the entire carapace in a single go instead of just a small part of it like he and Milia did.
Linfel then looked back at Nori. "Were you saying?"
"No... Nothing..." Nori had no ground to complain anymore. Linfel just proved the obvious. If he had joined the fray... the Fetou Centipede would have met an instant death. No training would have been carried out at all.
Milia took a deep breath and stabilized her Magic Energy. Alvin, in fact, used several times more Earth Skills than she did. And yet, Linfel just said Alvin used only half of his Magic Energy Reserves. Meanwhile, Linfel was right. She and Nori truly used pretty much all their Magic Energy. The difference in Magic Energy Control between her and Alvin was unbelievable.
Truly difficult to believe, considering they hadn't seen each other for just a few months. "Linfel, don't make it easy for me. Give me the full course!"
Linfel smiled in response. "That's the plan."
