Chapter 180 Putting Faith In Others (3)
"Perhaps it will take a month or two, since these people will be traveling from the Blood Wilderness to back here you know? But that is a period of time where you need not even lift a finger and can reside here." Heloise smiled.
Lukas glanced at Theodore to determine if that was actually a reasonable amount of time. Theodore's face was blank, but there was no objection on the part of the assassin.
How could the guy make an objection and insist on his way?
Even if Lukas and Theodore were to work together, they could not really force people to go against their will to come with them. Especially when Lukas was tempted to say yes for the sake of Chaerin.
This amount of time though… would this be fine for Lily?
It felt like they were going as fast as they could, but considering that amount of time to travel… would they have taken longer than these people that Heloise will hire?
"So how about it?" Heloise asked. "The idea of young men and women putting their lives at risk for this Blood Gourd is upsetting. I don't see how adults couldn't be sent instead but they insisted on taking all five of you. Who in their right minds thought it was a great idea?"
Lukas frowned slightly. "We're actually adults ourselves."
Heloise Carmilla blinked, her eyes crinkling slightly as she glanced at Lukas but then nodded slowly. "I suppose so, but do all of you have experience in actually going to the Blood Wilderness? If you folks were capable, then you guys would have even been able to successfully leave Nyx, but yet you still remain here, isn't that right?"
Lukas couldn't argue with that logic.
It did feel like a suicide mission at the start.
And the only reason why they were the ones who were chosen was because the Hunter's Association refused to send more capable men. The decreasing number of Hunters returning from their mission made it impossible for the Guildmaster to be willing to share them.
That was actually another mystery that Lukas had yet to uncover… and he wasn't actually willing to partake in it before because it went against his desire for a peaceful life.
"I could… probably do this task better if more capable ones were with me, but I could have done it. I regularly risk my life on my missions." Theodore said evenly.
"Ah, ah. What are you, young man?"
"I'm an assassin."
"Impressive, but not everyone here shares the same skillset as you, do they?"
"No."
"And what about you, young man? What makes you different from the others here?" Heloise glanced at Lukas.
"A lot of reasons actually." Lukas started, but then shook his head. "But that won't help in getting the Blood Gourd so you're right. Maybe I was being overarrogant in thinking that we could do this on our own."
"I'm so glad that you two are finally seeing reason." Heloise Carmilla smiled. "We can resume with our meal now."
The next hour passed shortly with everyone having their meals, and then Heloise Carmilla inviting the two Vardoken siblings.
"You two are quite delightful people, but it'd be great to also take lessons wouldn't it? I've taken the opportunity to hire some tutors for the both of you. Shall we proceed with that?"
"Of course." Stacy nodded.
"Yeah, why not?" Alexei agreed.
Lukas glanced at Stacy and Alexei standing up and then joining the Overlord.
"Will you guys say your short and temporary farewells towards your friends?"
"See you guys later."
"Goodluck with whatever."
"As for the three of you, you are all free to remain here." Heloise called out to them. "While you're all naturally free to go wherever you'd like to go, it's much better to relax and recover from last night's crazy events, right?"
Lukas didn't find it a wrong statement, but then he glanced at Chaerin. She wanted to go out to check on her family, so he was actually waiting for her.
"Oh. But if you are leaving, then please enjoy the city of Nyx to your heart's content." Heloise called out before leaving.
The moment that the Overlord disappeared with the two Vardoken siblings, it didn't take long for the other members of the Carmilla House to either round up and leave or for them to continue eating their breakfast.
This time, they were able to take more food from the banquet table and there was an even more relaxed nature to them. Almost as if the presence of the Overlord vanishing made it so… which made sense in a way.
"So how about it, Chaerin?" Lukas whispered to his girlfriend. "Want to go out now?"
"…I've thought about it, but it'd be better to stay here." Chaerin said.
"What?" Lukas blinked.
"It's not going to be an enjoyable matter if we go visit my relatives. So let's just stay here… last night was really crazy." Chaerin weakly smiled.
Lukas couldn't actually disagree with Chaerin if she didn't want to see her family right now. He wouldn't push her in that direction if she was unhappy with it, so he instead glanced at Theodore.
"What about you, Theo old buddy?"
"I would leave… but there's not really much I can enjoy from sightseeing Nyx." Theodore scrunched up his face. "I'll just browse the library of the Carmilla House."
"Oh, okay. That sounds good?" Lukas said.
It was a relaxing and a way to recover from the events of last night.
But Lukas actually wanted to explore the city of Nyx. He wasn't able to do so when he was under the presumption that they'd leave right away… but this kind of changed things, didn't it?
"What about you, Lukas?" Chaerin asked. "What will you be doing?"
"I'm going out. You're free to join me." Lukas smiled and offered a hand.
"… please have fun while you're out." Chaerin said.
"Oh, okay." Lukas knew that she was probably down with her parents still… but that didn't stop Lukas from doing his own thing, did it?
