Vampire Nightlife

Chapter 143 City Of Nyx (2)

There was a sense of almost normalcy that came from standing in line with other Vampires. After a series of life and death events, Lukas was once again reminded of how Vampires were really just another race of people.

Like the first time he had met Stacy working at VitaBlood or Lily at the city council's building.

Large groups of people still needed a way to work together and the easiest way was making a society–even if that came along with problems of its own.

Theodore stood impatiently in front of him with his arms crossed, tapping his foot every now and then. They were all the way in the back and it infuriated the assassin of how long they were going to take.

"Geez." Lukas resisted the urge to roll his eyes.

But truth be told, after an hour of standing around–it also started to get on his nerves.

The line of Vampires did move, but they were all the way in the back.

"Will really take awhile, huh?" Alexei offhandedly said from behind Stacy.

"These people don't care much for visitors." A Vampire complained as he fell in line behind Alexei. "They get thousands in a day so it doesn't really matter much to them."

"It makes more sense to work things faster so as to not get overflooded." Stacy remarked.

"Yeah, they should have usually sent out their people by now to speed things up." the Vampire grinned wearily and ran his fingers through his hair. "What are you lot here for?"

"Just passing through–" Alexei said, right before Theodore sent him a narrowed eye stare.

Truth be told, in Lukas' eyes, it seemed more realistic to deal with brooding groups of Vampires and to have a friendly one was far stranger.

"Huh? Not going sightseeing?" the Vampire raised a brow. "Nyx is a tourist destination, don't you know? Got some real nice places here."

Lukas wouldn't normally pay much attention to a stranger, but this reminded him of when he first met Theodore. Keen and friendly.

This time, Lukas decided to give the Vampire a more proper look. He was a Vampire with blond hair and the typical red eyes, but compared to everyone who went in line–he was dressed far too nicely to be someone who was just entering the city.

Other Vampires had luggage with them, a bag or two, maybe a briefcase but this man had absolutely nothing on him.

Which was similar to Lukas and his companions, but they had a van. This other Vampire seemed like he only stepped out from an office and was finding entertainment by standing around with complete strangers.

"What about you, sir?" Lukas decided to ask. "What are you here for?"

"Oh me?" the Vampire cracked a grin. "I'm just waiting like you guys. Do you want any recommendations for a restaurant? Great food here, I swear. Read it in an advertisement once."

"Seems like you've been here a couple of times already." Lukas said.

"Really?" the Vampire's brows raised.

"Yeah, really." Lukas said.

Before Alexei, Stacy and Chaerin could react, a group of young Vampires dressed in uniforms went out of the building and quickly started addressing the people.

"May I get your name?"

"Can you please show me your identifications, please."

"Please state the purpose of your visit, ma'am."

"Trade."

"Ah, we'll get you to the Business Line. Right this way, ma'am."

Lukas pursed his lips and glanced back at the Vampire. "Interns, as you said?"

The blond Vampire simply smiled and placed his hands into his pockets. He tilted his head and grinned. "Every institution has interns at least, cheapest labor. Mostly free? Surely, it's a familiar thing with all of you?"

This was enough of a sign for Lukas that this person was someone special or in authority. However, before he could say something else–a female intern suddenly approached Theodore but then stopped in her tracks.

Theodore looked annoyed, but then followed her line of sight.

"Is that you Chaerin?" a Vampire who also had red hair stared uncertainly at the girl behind Lukas.

Chaerin froze and tried to look away immediately.

Fortunately for her, another intern appeared and then rushed over to the blond Vampire and bowed his head.

"Young Lord Aurelius! A pleasure to see you, sir! We did not expect–"

"I'm sure that your boss was well aware that I'll be visiting and checking this district for my father." the Vampire inclined his head and offered a sharp grin. "Shall I go check in with him and say hello? I'm a little surprised at the sluggishness of this line–these folks have been standing around for how long?"

Alexei stared at the other Vampire for a second, but then shrugged.

"An hour or more. Is this really normal?"

"We'll be rectifying it immediately." the blond Vampire smiled. "Actually, it embarrasses me that new visitors such as yourself have experienced such a service. Why not accompany me and we'll get you your entrance passes?"

Lukas didn't know if he liked the guy right away, but that didn't mean that he'd reject an offer like that. "Well–"

"That won't be necessary, Lord Aurelius." Theodore smiled and bowed. "It would be quite unfair for everyone ahead of us if we were to be given special treatment. We'd be more than happy to wait as now things are faster with your presence."

"Really?"

"Weren't you the one glowering at every Vampire in front of us?" Alexei scratched his head.

Lukas was surprised at the sudden change in personality as well, but out of everyone in the group–Theodore most likely had an idea of who they were dealing with.

Theodore would have gritted his teeth and bashed Alexei's head into the cement right now if it weren't for the fact that they were surrounded by other Vampires.

"I think we should follow what Theodore said. What he said makes sense." Stacy elbowed her brother, and glanced at the Young Lord Aurelius. "We don't want any special treatment."

"Despite your station?"
