In the bedroom, Qin Shuman lay seductively asleep on the bed. She was lying on her side, her long hair spread casually across the pillow like black velvet. The thin blanket barely covered her jade-like body, revealing graceful curves and a slender waist. With each breath, her enchanting figure was highlighted, evoking endless fantasies.

This was an extraordinarily beautiful woman, one that even Qiu Tu had rarely seen in his past life. In this world, her beauty seemed almost out of place and surreal.

Standing by the bed and admiring her momentarily, Qiu Tu loosened his collar and jumped on her without any hesitation.

Startled by the sudden pressure, Qin Shuman awoke with a start. She struggled and whispered, "Wait, wait."

"Be good, I can't wait."

Twenty minutes later, Qiu Tu leaned against the headboard, holding the alluring Qin Shuman in his arms, feeling pleased as he lit a cigarette. The mistress of a big shot indeed had her perks—she was exquisite! This experience was worth it. Even if he ended up dead because of Yan Chen one day, he felt he had at least lived and wasn’t just a scapegoat.

Sensing the change in Qiu Tu, Qin Shuman, leaning on his shoulder, tilted her head curiously and asked, "You seem different."

"Really?" Qiu Tu, holding her shoulder, took one last drag of the cigarette before pressing the butt into the table. "Maybe it's because I almost died once."

Qiu Tu laughed and patted her smooth, white back. "I'm joking."

Qin Shuman exhaled in relief and rolled her eyes at him. "You scared me."

Qiu Tu then said, "I mean, we might be about to die soon."

"Yan Chen already knows about us."

The shock was so great that she sat up abruptly, clutching the thin blanket to her chest, and looked at Qiu Tu with wide, astonished eyes.

Qiu Tu, outwardly nonchalant but secretly observing her, wanted to see if she was genuinely surprised or just pretending. However, her performance was flawless, showing no signs of deceit.

He patted her slender arm and asked, "Didn't you think we might get caught when you came out with me?"

Clearly still bewildered, Qin Shuman shook her head. "No. You just said you wanted to take me out for some fun. I didn't think we would..."

She looked down at their exposed bodies, then hurriedly started to gather her clothes.

Qiu Tu raised a hand to stop her. "If I were you, I'd take a shower first to clean up."

"Otherwise, your clothes will be stained with bodily fluids."

Qin Shuman paused.

Qiu Tu's hand gently glided over her smooth back. "But don't wet your hair, and don't use any toiletries to avoid leaving a scent."

"And, make sure to clean yourself thoroughly."

"Yan Chen has a very keen sense of smell."

Qin Shuman stared at him for a couple of seconds, then glared at him fiercely before hopping off the bed and running to the bathroom with her clothes.

Watching her seductive figure, Qiu Tu rubbed his chin, his expression thoughtful.

Something didn't feel right. It just didn’t add up.

In his previous life, working in the scam group had made Qiu Tu naturally suspicious of everything. After crossing into this world, that habit only intensified.

Qin Shuman's behavior seemed too naive and uncalculated for someone in such a chaotic, bloody, and lawless place.

In a region like this, comparable to Mexico or Laos from his past life, it was unlikely for a pure and innocent beauty to survive unscathed.

His predecessor, having grown up in the planning area, might have been blinded by love or lust and failed to notice anything amiss. But Qiu Tu had seen many beautiful women in his previous life. Whether they were smart, foolish, or naive, they all eventually became numb and corrupt in such environments.

Thus, Qiu Tu couldn't believe that Qin Shuman was truly innocent.

"A clever woman adept at disguise?"

Qiu Tu speculated but quickly identified another problem.

Why would such a clever woman risk so much to have an affair with him? What made him, or rather, his predecessor, worth such a risk?

Initially, Qiu Tu had fabricated some information about Qin Shuman to trick Yan Chen, partly to save their lives. But now, he genuinely doubted her.

Ten minutes later, Qin Shuman, fully dressed, emerged from the bathroom. She took a deep breath, ready to call Qiu Tu to discuss things.

But just then, she felt the cold metal of a gun barrel pressed against her temple.

The instant chill of the metal froze her in place.

They stood like that for several seconds. Qin Shuman, realizing there was no immediate threat, slowly turned her head to look at Qiu Tu. He was leaning against the doorframe, holding the gun to her temple, his eyes deep and thoughtful.

Seeing her look over, Qiu Tu finally spoke, "Miss Qin, whose person are you?"

"The Municipal Council? Commissioner An? Commissioner Wang?"

"Or... the military?"

Qin Shuman, seeing it was Qiu Tu holding the gun, was in disbelief. "Are you crazy? What council, what military! I don't know what you're talking about!"

Qiu Tu saw no signs of deceit, so he withdrew the gun and nodded, "Good. Keep acting like that."

He added, "I told Yan Chen that you might be a spy planted by the military."

Seeing Qin Shuman's shocked reaction, Qiu Tu raised a hand to interrupt her. "This is the only way we can stay alive."

"Yan Chen is inherently suspicious. Unless he completely understands your identity and weighs the pros and cons, he won't make a move against you."

"And if you want to survive, we need to cooperate fully. There's no other choice."

"Scenarios like just now might happen often in the next few days. You must stay calm and not show any flaws."

Fear was evident on Qin Shuman's face.

She trembled and said, "I'm scared. I don't dare. If he finds out, he won't spare us."

"Is that so?" Qiu Tu thought for a moment, then took out a police dagger from his waistband and handed it to Qin Shuman.
