Chapter 49: There is no Such Thing as Peaceful Moments
When it was getting close to six, Xan left the house feeling much better, even though he was still warmer than usual. But he told Neban he was going to take some medicine when he went back home.
After the man left, his mother was dragging him and Theo to get dressed for Neban's date that was coming soon.
Theo had on a pair of black slacks with a white button-up shirt and was currently watching a show on the bed while Neban and his mother were looking in the closet.
"Why do you mostly have jackets and hoodies?" His mother complained as she looked for something nice for Neban to wear.
Neban shrugged, trying not to get annoyed with his mother because did clothing matter that much for a date? "I like them."
His mother clicked her tongue at the response before seeing a green, silk button-up shirt that looked untouched. She pulled it out before saying, "Isn't this the shirt I bought you two years ago."
Neban looked at it, then at his mother's face before glancing away, "It might be."
His mother shook her head before holding onto the shirt as she looked for slacks that Neban could wear. Only to see that her son barely had any; she only found two.
Pulling out one of the pairs of black slacks, she handed the outfit to Neban before saying, "You need to add more variety to your clothes."
Neban did not comment because he would tell his mother that he disagreed with her if he did. So, instead, he walked into his bathroom, closing the door behind him to get dressed.
When he finished, he walked back into the bedroom and saw his mother smiling at him.
"You look handsome, son."
He nodded 'thanks' to his mother before using [Creation] to make him a new pair of glasses. When his mother saw that, she instantly took the glasses from his hand.
"No covering your face. You are always doing that, and even though I rarely complain about it, you cannot have it covered for tonight."
Neban sighed at that, "Why?"
His mother was going to say something but stopped herself when she glanced at Theo on the bed and back to him, "You know why."
Neban groaned; if going on a date to a nice restaurant meant not covering his face, then he did not feel like going. But looking at his mother's face, who seemed to guess his thoughts, made Neban take the words back.
He nodded, running his hands through his hair as he sat down on the bed. His mother looked satisfied before saying, "Well, I am going to go because I know what you don't want me to do. But do know, I will meet them soon."
Neban would rather not have his mother meet Wey and Isona, but he knew that she would meet them no matter what. Is that what having an overprotective parent meant?
He looked at Theo, wondering if he would be the same as his mom when Theo got older, or worse. Neban believes he would be worse because he barely wants his son going places due to paranoia.
Theo crawled to the edge of the bed, standing and grabbing his grandmother to kiss her on the cheek. "Bye, grandma."
Neban's mother smiled, kissing Theo back, "I love you, honey."
"Bye, mother. I will text you later on." Neban said, not moving from his spot to do the same as Theo.
His mother nodded, telling him 'I love you' before walking away and leaving.
Theo made his way back over, crawling onto his dad's lap before resting his back on Neban's chest. Neban wrapped his arms around him as he asked, "You think grandma would be mad if I decided to wear glasses?"
Theo chuckled, "Papa, don't do it."

When Wey and Isona knocked on the door, Neban and Theo were already at the front door, getting ready to walk out.
Neban opened the door and sucked in his breath when he saw Wey and Isona.
Isona had on a skin-tight black dress that had a slit down the left leg. When she turned, the back of the dress was open, showing off a geometric rose tattooed where her spine is.
She looked beautiful as her blonde hair was in a neat bun while two front strands fell down her face. She was smiling at Neban with a blush while he was having a hard time figuring out where to look.
Wey had on a white button-up shirt that looked a bit tight around his arms. He had on a black vest with it that had a beautiful design surrounding it. He also had on black slacks that looked painted onto his skin.
Wey pushed back his hair, making it look white (his bangs are white), but when he turned around, a person could see his hair was black. Wey looked handsome, and Neban was also having a hard time figuring out where to look with him too.
It was silent for a few minutes as Neban took in Wey and Isona's look. They were enjoying Neban's look too. All their thoughts were on the same wave-length at the moment.
Theo broke the moment by speaking out, "Are we going to eat?"
Neban cleared his throat, picking up his son as he closed his door and locked it. Isona was laughing while Wey was trying to hold back a smile.
"You look nice," Isona told Neban once she stopped laughing.
They walked to Neban's car (since he had a car seat for Theo), taking it to the restaurant. Neban looked at her, then Wey and back again, "You two also look nice."
They thanked him as Wey turned to Theo, who was in Neban's arms, and said, "You look the best out of all of us, Theo."
Theo grinned at the compliment, saying thank you. Neban could not help but smile at Wey for including Theo, too; plus, he agreed with the comment. His son did look adorable.
When they reached the car, everyone got in, making sure they buckled up and Theo was secured before Neban drove to the restaurant.
The drive was an hour-long as Theo, Wey, and Isona held a conversation while Neban listened most of the time. Once they made it to the place, Neban parked the car, and they all got out.
Neban unbuckled his son from the car seat, closing the door behind him while locking the car doors. He started walking to the entrance of the restaurant with Wey and Isona following him.
Once they were inside, Neban told the host his name since he did make reservations earlier on. The host checked before taking them to their table in a shaded and secluded area (Neban did not want to be surrounded by people).
They took their seats (the table was a booth) as the host brought a sitting stool for Theo to sit on. Then she gave them their menus before walking away.
Wey and Isona were on one side while Neban and Theo were on the other side.
The waiter came a minute after the host as they gave the person their drink orders. The waiter wrote it down before walking away to get them.
They looked at the menu when Theo spoke, "We should get healthy meals."
Neban shook his head but started looking at the healthy choices on the menu while Wey and Isona began to do the same.
"You are right, Theo. It is always good to stay healthy." Isona commented, causing Theo to nod as he agreed with her.
There were not many healthy choices; they ended up choosing the same meal when the waiter came back with their drinks and took their orders.
Once the waiters took their orders and the menus, walking off, Isona started the conversation.
"So, Theo, got any more tips? Like, say, finishing college faster?"
The question helped break the ice as everyone started talking; even Neban would say a few words. When the food came, they ate, enjoying their meal as they spoke about different topics. It ranged from school to shows, to books, and so on.
Neban tried to hold back a smile from his face as he enjoyed the content atmosphere. The way Isona and Wey would talk with his son made Neban fall for them even more, which scared him a bit.
Theo laughed at what they said, causing Neban to smile when he did not want to. When Wey and Isona saw his smile, they both blush, giving him shy looks. Neban bit his lip, trying to stop the smile as he returned their glances.
They kept glancing at each other when Theo said, "Stop flirting."
They looked at the boy in surprise as Neban said, "Do you even know what that word means?"
Before Theo could open his mouth and respond, the ground started to shake, causing some of the restaurant's glass to fall on the ground and shatter.
Some people started freaking out because the ground shaking meant that another portal opened near them.
'I smell the blood of Lorka.' Siren finally spoke after being quiet for so long.
Neban groaned as he held onto his son so that the boy wouldn't fall off the stool. 'Why can't I have one peaceful night?' Neban complained to himself.
