Chapter 1133: Explosive News
"Arghh-!"
Calidora grunted as she could feel the cursed energy around her tightening.
She found herself ensnared, her every move was stifled by the cursed energy woven into the circle of rite etched upon the ground. Desperation clawed at her, her heart pounding with the weight of the situation.
'I didn't know the Witch was in on this! This is too risky!' She screamed inside her head.
Being an Empress, Calidora expected Evelyn to do something.
Out of the time of the day, the celebratory banquet was the most appropriate time to strike.
A plan was already settled in Calidora's mind, but she didn't see it this way.
She didn't know that the Witch was going to help Evelyn.
As Calidora struggled against the powerful bonds that held her captive—attempting her best to flee as even her Eyes of Terror were flashing brightly, Evelyn, the architect of the situation approached with a predatory gleam in her eyes.
Deciding not to hesitate, she slammed her palm against the barrier.
Several nods of energy ripple through the air as her Luna mark imprinted itself on the barrier.
Failing to predict this situation, Calidora's breath caught in her throat as she watched in utter horror—her chest tightening with fear. Despite the searing pain that was caused by the mark burning its way onto her flesh, branding her, Calidora was not afraid of that.
It was obvious through her expression that she was fearful more of the cursed energy.
"Evelyn-rrghh! Stop the cursed formation!" Calidora shouted.
Albeit there was urgency inside her tone, Evelyn didn't even heed her and continued.
Responding to the call of her Luna mark, the Luna energy that was taken away from her was slowly being extracted, from Calidora's form. Purple tendrils seeped out, and it was akin to a purple octopus slowly coming out of its hiding.
Upon seeing this, Evelyn's eyes gleamed in excitement.
She was and will ever be, the Luna, Calidora would never be Luna as long as she's alive.
Calidora's mind swirled when she saw the wings on her waist, beginning to flutter—almost as if they were screaming for help. Desperate, she looked to the entrance door and found that it was blocked by the Witch of Chaos' cursed energy.
Nobody is going to come and help her as the cursed energy ensures the secrecy of this ploy.
Just then, the Witch came out of the shadows with a big smirk on her face.
"You do not want to do this, Witch! Rex would sense my pain!"
"Don't educate me. I already blocked any cursed energy from leaking, he won't feel you"
As Evelyn was distracting Calidora, the Witch meticulously erected an imperceptible cursed barrier, severing Calidora's link with Rex via her Eternal Curse without her noticing, thus, he wouldn't feel Calidora's pain right now.
In a game of curses, the Witch is the absolute peak and would not lose.
"Even so, I am at the eighth epiphany! Rrggh- you cannot forcefully take my Eternal Curse!"
"Like I said, don't educate me. I am the Witch of Chaos,"
Regardless of what Calidora said right now to make them stop this, it wouldn't work.
Calidora is beginning to realize that, and that growing realization heightened her desperation as she sensed her cursed energy, was leaving her. It depleted her reserves—and it would not take long before it triggered a malfunction in her cursed power due to the increasing demand for energy.
Due to the constant process of using cursed energy, it might cause a potential side effect.
One that was warned by Dimitri some time ago.
He said that, if Calidora recklessly used her cursed power—there was a chance that it would mistake the robust concentration in her stomach to be the cursed source. Aware of that side effect, it was natural for her to panic.
"Please stop this, Evelyn, I'm begging you," Calidora resorted to pleading.
But Evelyn was not buying it—she knew that most likely, Calidora was definitely faking it.
"Where's your confidence now, Calidora?" She mused in ridicule.
Upon hearing this, Calidora resorted to the Witch again, "Ask your grimoire about my wings!"
Despite her shout, the Witch didn't have a change in her expression.
It was obvious that she turned deaf ears to Calidora.
As the process continued, Evelyn silently monitored the absorption of cursed energy, by the hooded figure behind Calidora while simultaneously absorbing back her Luna energy. 'About 40% of the Eternal Curse was absorbed, and is climbing—this is perfect enough to make my move. Sorry Witch, giving it to you was never my intention,'
Just then, Evelyn took out a talisman from a dress.
It bore glowing red runes, pulsating with sinister energy, foreboding and ominous in looks.
Sensing the energy from the talisman, the Witch of Chaos turned to look at Evelyn.
Noticing the talisman, her eyes bulged and her expression twisted.
Before the Witch could warn her child about Evelyn's ploy, Evelyn already made her move.
Activating her elemental prowess, she blitzed from her spot and reappeared behind the black hooded skeletal figure. Caught off guard by this—the hooded figure couldn't react in time, as Evelyn plastered the talisman onto its back.
Instantly after that, the talisman glowed with a blinding light.
Numerous red runes came into existence, spreading across the hooded figure's form.
Swoosh!
"Damn you, Evelyn!!" the Witch shouted but the shockwave propelled her back.
Although Evelyn was desperate enough to make a deal with the Witch—she knew that in her current state back then—she might do something she would regret in the future. Due to that, she took a brief pause before entering the Witch's room back then.
Just to neutralize and clear her mind.
In that moment of pause, she realized that the Witch was not a friendly force.
Expecting the Witch to ask for something in return, she decided to bail on whatever it was.
Evelyn couldn't give the Witch what she wanted.
Upon knowing that the Witch wanted the Eternal Curse for herself—as it was a powerful kind of curse, Evelyn decided to think of a way to take it all for herself, and not give it to the Witch—and that resolve led her to the Dark Elf Kingdom to meet with Qonvale.
She was the one who treated Gistella's cursed condition back then.
One of the only people that Evelyn knew was adept in curses.
Consulting about this problem, Qonvale decided to help her and crafted her a talisman.
But the catch was that the Witch must not suspect Evelyn of reneging on her words, trust is absolutely paramount. If the Witch didn't trust her, and took precautions, Qonvale's talisman wouldn't work.
It wouldn't work if the Witch is ready.
As the Witch is the epitome of curses, Qonvale's works wouldn't be comparable to hers.
Evelyn, however, was able to make the Witch trust her.
Just the fact that Evelyn stooped so low—to make a deal with her already showed that she was desperate, and with the coronation nearing, with her being elected as the Empress—it made it seem like she was in a cooperative mood.
Surely, these are enough assurance for the Witch to trust her.
Not to mention, the eagerness in Evelyn's eyes for Calidora's demise is also a positive sign.
All indicates that Evelyn was unlikely to renege on their agreement—as long as Calidora was stripped of her power—and influence over Rex. Yet, that was not the case, Evelyn was being extra careful to not waver in the Witch's trust in her.
It was all done for this exact moment.
As opposed to the Witch gaining the Eternal Curse, Evelyn would be taking it instead.
Swoosh!!
Just like that, the Eternal Curse that was absorbed by the hooded figure went to Evelyn.
Evelyn observed as the Eternal Curse was channeled into her body from her fingertips, veins aglow with bronze light as it snaked towards her torso. It seemed to be turtle-paced, yet fast at the same time.
Soon, the luminescence intensified, pulsating malevolent intent until it reached her chest.
Forced to take a gasp, Evelyn was lifted from the ground.
She was suspended in the air by the dark force coursing through her veins.
Not knowing what to expect from being integrated with the Eternal Curse—she was shocked to feel that the sensation, was akin to having mana flow in her body, but was painful. She felt its power coursing through her being, a symbiotic union that bound her to its will.
Despite having no cursed source, the Eternal Curse kept rushing into her.
On the other hand, a similar thing was happening to Calidora.
Calidora gasped when more cursed energy was being extracted out of her to the point that it cracked her cursed source—and at that point, she decided to not let this continue any longer lest it would be too late.
She didn't care about what was happening between Evelyn and the Witch of Chaos.
All she could think about was the well-being of her child.
A female Vampire could only be pregnant once, and Calidora is not going to lose hers.
Even though she was reluctant, there was no other choice but to do this.
"I'M PREGNANT! IT'S REX'S CHILD!!" She screamed at the top of her lungs.
Boom!!
Almost instantly after Calidora's scream, a blast of energy swallowed the entire area.
Evelyn could feel the Eternal Curse stop flowing to her, as the barrier detonated—and made this blast of energy—and in that fraction of a second, she also saw a shadow—closing in on them and making a powerful strike at the barrier with full force which caught her off guard.
It was too fast for her to properly decipher who it was.
Following that, Evelyn recoiled back for dozens of steps onto the wing courtyard.
However, at that moment, her eyes widened completely, "W- What did she say...?"
Meanwhile, inside the banquet.
Kyran was currently bored as he was not fond of being praised and adored by others.
It was empty comments in his ears.
But even then, he decided to keep his composure and went through with the night as he was in an extremely good mood—with Rex, assigning him the task of being a representative. One that is secretive.
Everything was going well, and Kyran even made good relations, but he noticed something.
"Where's Flunra? I didn't see him anywhere" He muttered to himself.
Deciding to excuse himself from the guests to find Flunra.
Soon, he saw a glimpse of Flunra through the crowd and went over to him.
Realizing that he was alone without anyone around him, far from the party, Kyran frowned.
"What is he doing?"
Confused, he quickened his pace and realized that Flunra was peeking through the door.
It was not the main entrance door of the building, it led to the back, so nobody was around.
Approaching from behind, Flunra didn't seem to realize that Kyran was coming to him, which was quite weird. Nevertheless, Kyran decided to tap him on the shoulder, but stopped when he saw something was going on outside.
Squinting to get a clearer view, he was startled to see Evelyn and Calidora.
Both seemed to be in a significant exchange.
Despite being in deep slumber, he knew who Calidora was from Gistella.
He also knew that the girls, including Gistella, had animosity towards her.
Confused at first, Kyran began to become tense when the situation escalated between them.
Although he lacked personal acquaintance with Calidora, witnessing her ensnared within the barrier, appearing vulnerable—struck him as peculiar. Especially considering her previous act of valor in rescuing Rex from the Fourthborn.
'Is their animosity really that bad?' Kyran questioned inwardly.
Listening to their conversation, his frown deepens, 'Will Evelyn kill her? On coronation day?'
'Just what did Calidora do to make Evelyn be like that? Oh—Evelyn is taking her power now, it would be the end soon. But if things really came to a point where Calidora might die, I should intervene as we owe it to her for saving Rex'
However, as he thought of that, he suddenly heard a scream that escaped Calidora's mouth.
A scream—which brought along an explosion of information.
Something unexpected, not even in their wildest dreams.
"I'M PREGNANT! IT'S REX'S CHILD!!"
Upon hearing the scream, Kyran's blood runs cold as his eyes shot open, "Oh, shit..."
