Chapter 311 - The Glass Forest
Evan headed to the top of the mountain and sat on his riding beast. He had no more business in the Devil's Horn. He picked out the spells and learned the information he needed. Sure, Evan could have participated in some missions, but he wasn't going to take an active role in the Demonic Tree just yet.
He needed to get stronger and sort out his affairs before he had the desire and time to seek out the ancient ruins and fight the light organizations.
As Evan flew, he pondered Franz's words.
<When he talked about the Ashen Order and their power, he often mentioned Merciful Death. I know they are a very powerful dark organization, but I have yet to meet any of them. It would be interesting to see how they fight against Tears of Light or some other light organization.> Evan thought.
Thirty minutes had passed since he left the Devil's Horn by then. Evan was approaching an area called - The Glass Forest.
The trees in this place were practically glass, or so it seemed outside. The trees and their crowns consisted of transparent crystals with special properties. These crystals could absorb mana and thus nourish the plants. Moreover, when the weather was clear, and the sun's rays descended into this forest, one could see hundreds of rainbows.
It covered the entire forest, and the area looked like part of some fairy tale. But despite its beauty, this place was very dangerous. Many mages tried to get here to collect Rainbow Crystals and admire the splendor of the rainbows up close, but they failed.
Even on the borders of the glass forest, there were dangerous monsters, most of which were found on the stage - Two-Pointed Star.
Suddenly, Evan saw a bright glint in the distance, but he realized it was an enemy attack a second later. His ring glowed, and Magma Blood appeared in his hands.
Evan swung his scythe, trying to cut the beam flying in his direction, but suddenly the beam's trajectory changed, and Evan's riding beast was torn apart.
"Fuck!" Cursed Evan as he watched more beams fly in his direction.
But that wasn't his main problem. He was over five kilometers high, and even though he was on stage - Two-Pointed Star, Evan was incapable of squeezing out after such a fall. His body would be flattened into a pancake, and his bones would be crushed into dust.
Evan continued to fend off attacks and fall. Luckily he quickly found a way out of this challenging situation.
<Eh, I didn't learn this spell for anything.> Evan thought, and his crimson warp spun. The next moment two bloody, demonic wings appeared on his back.
Last time, he had used this spell for no more than five minutes, but that was different now. Evan had enough mana to fly for more than thirty minutes without a problem.
He dodged the beams and headed toward whoever was sending them. It was a creature that looked like a bird with four glass wings.
Evan immediately used Mammon' Gaze.
[Crystal Eagle
Race - Monster
Stage - 2, with one flame on the platform.
Warp - Purple]
<Hmm, he's not very strong judging by his stage, but if even one of those rays hits me, I'll get serious wounds. We need to destroy it as quickly as possible.> Thought Evan and said loudly, "Reykar!"
Caw!
A purple raven appeared on his shoulder, and its beak immediately lit up. In the same way, Evan began to attack. He cast One-Eyed Raven's Beam, and a second later, two purple beams flew toward Crystal Eagle.
However, the monster's wings glowed, and he summoned more than ten white spheres, which exploded like bombs on the purple beams and destroyed them.
For the next few minutes, they exchanged long-range attacks. Evan and Reykar, even together, could hardly suppress and repel all the attacks Crystal Eagle sent at them.
<This monster is behaving very strangely. He keeps trying to keep a very far distance and won't let me get close. Does that mean it's very weak in close combat?> Evan thought and gave Reykar a sign.
He decided they needed to take a chance and take advantage of Crystal Eagle's perceived weakness. Evan himself couldn't catch up to the Crystal Eagle. His speed wasn't enough to catch up to such a fast monster.
Reykar flew toward the Crystal Eagle at top speed, seeing Evan's gesture. Reykar was slightly weaker than Crystal Eagle, for he had no single flame. But on the other hand, unlike Crystal Eagle, which evolved only once, Reykar survived three evolutions.
He also had four wings and could catch up with Crystal Eagle. Moreover, Evan constantly cast One-Eyed Raven's Beam and prevented his opponent from doing so.
Eventually, Reykar got to Crystal Eagle and began tore his body apart with his sharp beak.
<Okay, just like I thought he was pretty weak in close combat. His armor is suitable for storing mana and releasing it as a beam of energy, but it's not suitable for defense.> Evan thought and headed to Reykar's aid.
A few seconds later, Evan furiously swung his scythe, inflicting multiple wounds on the Crystal Eagle. The glass armor gradually shattered into small pieces, and Evan saw the eagle's flesh. It was hidden under a thick layer of armor.
Whoooosh.
Evan plunged the red-hot scythe blade into the monster's flesh, and the eagle roared in pain. Evan was about to deliver one last blow, but suddenly Crystal Eagle was entirely covered by his enormous wings. Evan thought the monster was trying to defend itself that way. But, it turned out to be much more dangerous than he had anticipated.
The monster's entire body began to glow brightly as if it was ready to explode at any second. Evan quickly realized what was happening and shouted loudly, "Reykar!"
The raven instantly returned to Evan's Nirvana, and he tried to defend against the impending explosion by covering himself with his arms and a scythe.
The next moment there was a deafening explosion that looked like a bursting star.
