The boy smiled proudly. “This idea of mine is unrealistic, yes. However, technology is still developing. We do need to have dreams. What if the dream is realized someday?”

Another girl laughed. “Your idea is more futuristic than anything in Sci-fi movies!”

“That is quite futuristic. But, using that logic, it will never work. Hearing the inner voices of other people? I think that is something that only aliens in Sci-fi movies could acquire.”

Everyone laughed at this, except for Lu Jia’er.

Noticing this, her students quieted down.

“Professor Lu, have we gone too far?” the boy asked in a serious tone.

Lu Jia’er came back to her senses. She hurried to comfort them. “No, what you said is quite outstanding. Maybe, it is gradually becoming a reality.”

Lu Jia’er was using these words to imply her situation because she was a person that exemplified the dream that boy had and made it into a reality. But the other students had misinterpreted this.

“Professor Lu, you are right! By studying this subject with you we are laying a theoretical and scientific foundation for our ideas.” A boy was being a bit of a teacher’s pet.

Lu Jia’er smiled. “Anything else?”

Another girl raised her hand. “Professor Lu, what I envision is...”

That girl went on for a long time about her vision of AI. While Lu Jia’er heard them share, her mind was wandering away. What that boy mentioned had struck a nerve.

If she was right, then she was an advanced AI created specifically for psychological research.

She could only imagine how strong the team that created her was! The more she noticed and realized, the more curious Lu Jia’er was about her creators.

Who were they? Where were they?

In the next couple of days, it was as if Lu Jia’er had returned to her ordinary life of traveling back and forth from the university and her residence. Nothing was unusual. Everything was peaceful, so much so that she was becoming nervous, that she wondered if Jason’s death was faked.

However, the memory in her mind of the events was so clear. She could remember every little detail for every moment over the last 10 days.

To live through several days in peace discomforted her. Her mind was filled with an array of messy thoughts.

Was this a forewarning that a storm was coming? Or... was she already in the eyes of the storm?

Soon, Friday came. That day, Lu Jia’er had no class. She flew to the States that night after she made plans for her work. Since she did not know when she could come back, Lu Jia’er asked her colleague Li Lin to take over a class for her.

She came out of the airport with her suitcase. She immediately saw Jin Xiangdong who came to pick her up. Lu Jia’er smiled at him and hurried over.

After a few minutes, they had arrived at the parking lot. Jin Xiangdong put her suitcase in the trunk and Lu Jia’er got onto the car.

Jin Xiangdong got into the car as well. The first thing he did was lean over to kiss her.

The short moment of intimacy could not satisfy their desire for each other after being away from one another this long. That being said, their minds were weighed down. They could not indulge in a moment of passion like the average young couple.

Jin Xiangdong started the car and drove away from the airport.

It was quiet in the car. Looking at the road, Lu Jia’er said, “Somehow, for this trip to the States, I have a bad feeling.”

Jin Xiangdong turned his head to look at her. Then, he grabbed her hand and placed it on her knees.

Lu Jia’er looked into his eyes, from which he was telling her his love and that everything was under control.
