Chapter 179: Packing Up
Chapter 179: Packing Up
Quinn woke up feeling his breath almost run out. He found everything around him to be moving, like he was underwater. A feeling he didn't welcome freely as he immediately got up. With all the liquids dripping out of whatever it was that contained his body. And before this part could progress further, much needs to be explained about the events that came before it.
As soon as Quinn killed the Mythical Beast named Slytherin, the group was transported on top of the Rift. This wasn't the only thing that happened though as the [Chaos Poison] immediately became thinner and thinner. Until it was no more.
Sylph would've been happy about this but she had a lot to worry about. Specifically, twenty humans. All of which were unconscious while most were poisoned.
The [Chaos Poison] was quick in dealing damage to them Destroying their muscles and tissues while also entering their bloodstream. Sylph, Heron, and Morpheus immediately attended to them. Ensuring that all the [Chaos Poison] gets taken out of their bodies.
Quinn was the only one who had no wounds on him. Except for his clothing which had a torn part on the chest area and his missing mask; Quinn was in good shape. Yet, something was strange and worrisome. Even after the other elites have been healed and have woken up, Quinn was still in a deep slumber. Sylph didn't understand why this was so, neither did Heron nor Morpheus.
"Should we contact Zeke?" Was the first thought that ran through Sylph's head but she decided to hold it off for the moment.
What Sylph did was this. She placed Quinn within the same liquid that was used by Yaeger in her realm. It wasn't something she made however. It was one of the few creations of Zeke who thought that, an occurrence requiring it may come in the future. And it did. At that exact moment.
"Let's leave him here for now. With the effects of the [Mana Pool] in effect, he'd be waking up in no time at all." Sylph simply said, relieving the elites who went and did their individual businesses.
The group was supposed to party as soon as the mission finished. In fact, everything was already prepared for the event with all the best booze and food all over the Demon Continent to fill their stomachs. They also planned on taking some of Zeke' prized crops. Those which he didn't; allow anyone to take no matter what.
Yet all of these plans couldn't push through. Not without the person who contributed the most in both saving them from the enemy and winning them the fight. They couldn't start without Quinn waking up.
This was the totality of the situation after Quinn rose from the [Mana Pool]. He looked immediately at the mirror of the room. Forgetting that he was even naked. The dripping wet elite then raised the hair which covered his forehead and, surely enough, it was there. The mark left by one of the twelve [Monarchs of Chaos]. Vask Durandal.
"So you're finally in the world of the living." Said the person on the reflection.
Quinn could clearly see his reflection. It was him on the mirror but, he couldn't mistake the voice. Not after it tortured him for a whole year. It was Vask.
"What did you do to me?" Quinn demanded.
"I gave you what you wished for. Power. Is that not the reason why you consumed my dear pawn down that rift?" Vask said, with Quinn trying to wipe off the mark.
"It's no use. Once the mark is placed it can only be removed in death or if I will it to be so."
"Will it be removed after I do as you ask?"
"I'll consider it. What are you even angry about? I gave you power didn't I?"
"It's not the kind of power that I want. Not something that cheats hard work."
"Ahh hard work you say. And yet as I browse through your memories you never actually had to work hard. You've been born with a gifted body. Don't you think that what you said is a bit hypocrital?" Vask said, already getting all the details of who Quinn is.
"Anyway you can try it for yourself if you want. That power I gave you. In fact, I'm sensing one person nearby who'd be a good test run. She's nearby. An elf who was forced to take an immense amount of [Chaos Shards] within her body."
"No."
"Excuse me?"
"No. I will not use this power of yours. I'll do as you ask but in return, you need to free me from this curse." Vask laughed at this remark made by Quinn. Immediately speaking afterwards.
"Curse you say? I'd call it nothing less than a gift." Vask commented.
"Well, you still have time before we completely merge. Go and do what I ask and we can discuss your freedom afterwards." The [Chaos Monarch] continued. Vanishing into nothingness with Quinn seeing his normal reflection on the mirror.
Right after this conversation, Kaguya entered the room. Quinn was still completely naked by this time so, she slammed the door and ran away as fast as she could.
"It's big." She said. It was her first time seeing one in person and it looked like it could tear her apart. She then proceeded to the hall where everyone was eating. Giving the news to everyone while also hiding her face that was turning red from embarrassment.
"Quinn is awake." She said anticlimactically.
The words seemed to freeze everyone in place. There were seconds of silence which filled the room as everyone processed the words: "Quinn is awake"
"QUIIIIN!" The first one to react was Jake, shouting as he ran out of hall and toward Quinn's room.
Everyone immediately followed Jake's lead, with smiles on their faces. It felt like a stampeded; like a group of buffalos were running through the fields. And as soon as they entered, they saw their leader. Perfectly fine and sitting on his bed. He already had his clothes put on while his mark was hidden by the bangs which he placed on top of his forehead.
"You goddam asshole! I knew you weren't dead!" Jake exclaimed. Going in first and trying to punch Quinn. Their leader evaded this and got up, only to be hugged by the whole group.
"Thanks everyone." He said, feeling genuine joy from the warmth that they brought.
Yet Sylph could sense that there was something which the human was hiding beneath his smile. She could feel it. A sensation similar to when she was experimented on. But as soon as Quinn looked at her, she decided to simply smile and dismiss it for the moment.
"Glad to have you back Quinn."
"Good to be back." He said in reply.
With this the partying of the elites finally commenced. The whole thing was prepared and organized by Gerard, Gawain, and Curio. All expert party goers back on earth.
It was a night of getting booze run down their bodies as they enjoyed each other's company. Their faces went red from drunkenness, while some unfortunate members passed out immediately. This included Mordred who, surprisingly, couldn't handle her drink as well as Julia that tended to her.
There was laughter and joy; enough to fill the room. Everything went as happily as could be. With the elites enjoying the amount of peace which they earned once again.
"Here is to the elites who singlehandedly destroyed the curse which infested the land of Helios!" Jake said, drinking more than any other member.
"It wasn't singlehanded you dumb fuck. We were a team lead by the beautiful miss Sylph!" Curio continued. Trying to hug the elf who simply pointed a dagger to the human's throat.
"You're welcome to try." Sylph said. Getting everyone roaring in laughter as Curio backed away quickly using [Shadow Step]. Tripping over a bunch of booze along the way.
It was then the elf's turn to speak. She thought that it would be best to say something while most of them were still awake. And so, she clanged a mug using her dagger which got everyone's attention.
"Okay. Before we continue, I'd like to propose a toast." Sylph said. Raising her glass which everyone also did.
"This is a toast for the [Demon Continent] which will begin retrieving its former glory!"
"YEAAAH!
"This is a toast for the hardworking elites which made this possible!"
"YEAAAAHHH!"
"And this is for each of us for a job well done!"
"YEAAAAH!"
The night continued on in this jolly and positive mood. With everyone sharing drunk stories with each other. With some needing to go to the toilet as all they ate came rushing out of their mouths. With some sighing as they cleaned the mess left behind. While there was also someone preparing his things inside his room. Sylph noticed his disappearance of course and, went immediately to confront him.
"Where do you think you're going?" She asked with Quinn standing up to face her.
"This isn't what it looks like." Quinn said calmly.
"Yeah. I'm sure taking all that equipment and armor on isn't what it looks like." She said, with obvious sarcasm on her voice.
"I'll only repeat this question once. Where do you think you're going?" She said, prepared to attack anytime.
"Please. I don't want to cause any more trouble than is needed."
"There'd be plenty of that if you don't answer my questions."
Quinn looked at the eyes of the elf. She was determined to stop him. So much so that he feared what could happen. He knew that he had more power now but, he didn't know just how far it could go. If it was even safe to use against someone without actually killing them.
"If I win against you in a duel. Will you allow me to do as I please?" Quinn asked.
"Oho? Are you sure? We've just had our fill of liquor on our bodies after all. I'm not sure a human can handle a duel right now."
"Trust me. I can handle my own."
"Suit yourself." The elf simply said.
"Not on the training rooms." Quinn suggested, knowing where Sylph was about to head.
"Then where?" The elf asked.
"At the top of the rift."
