Chapter 524 Confused Father
524 Confused Father
Lin Sen nodded. "She took away the inkstone my father gave me for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Every time she took something easy to break. I told my father, but he didn't believe me. He even said that she was my mother's nanny and was loyal to her. She would be good to me. She clearly wasn't good to me at all. Why didn't he believe me? Why did he believe that old woman?"
Lin Haoran nodded. "That's what adults are like. They always think that what they say is right. Just like last time, it was clearly my third brother who took my pocket money, but my mother said that I was greedy and spent it all on myself. She even found an excuse."
Lin Sen looked at the two of them gloomily. "They still admonished me. It's fine if the items are broken, but children have to be honest and can't lie. The old woman even wiped her tears and said that I had learned bad things from people. My father even pressured me to apologize to her. I haven't told him anything else since. He wouldn't believe me even if I told him."
Lin Haoran scolded, "Your father is a muddle-headed worm. He would rather believe in outsiders instead of his son."
Yangyang nodded. "Yes! This old woman is quite scheming. Lin Sen, she must have taken your things and sold them for money. When Brother Loach returns with Brother Mao Dou, we'll know who she sold them to."
Lin Haoran looked at Yangyang. "Zhou Chenxi, she'll have money if she takes the things to the pawnshop. Don't tell me you don't know that there's a pawnshop!"
Yangyang rolled his eyes at him. "Of course, I know about the pawnshop. My grandfather said that no matter how good a thing is, it's not worth much in a pawnshop. If you take it to the old goods market, you can sell it for a few more coins."
Lin Sen looked at the two of them with admiration. "Lin Haoran, Zhou Chenxi, you two know so much."
Lin Haoran scratched his head. "No, my brother often pawned things and argued with others. My father caught him and beat him up a few times before I found out. Zhou Chenxi, how did you know?"
"My father was talking to Uncle. When I heard that, I secretly asked Uncle. He told me that he was almost done selling the things in the old residence. If he had known earlier, he would have sold them in the old goods market for a few more taels of silver." Yangyang spread his hands.
The three of them were still muttering when a classmate called out, "Zhou Chenxi, you're still talking. Sir is here."
The three of them looked up and saw that the teacher had already arrived at the classroom door. They quickly sat down separately.
The teacher looked at the few students who were anxious to sit down and said to everyone, "Who wants to recite what I taught yesterday?"
Everyone was silent. The teacher looked around and called out, "Zhou Chenxi, get up and recite it."
"Yes, sir." Yangyang stood up. "Uncle Jing is paid, and Wu Hu's clothes are left behind. Chunyu snickered, and Sima mocked…"
"Okay, sit down." The teacher opened his textbook and explained.
The few of them finally made it to the end of school. When they came out and saw Little Loach and Mao Dou waiting at the entrance of the school, they hurriedly ran over and asked, "How is it? Did you find anything?"
"Yes," Little Loach said vividly. "We followed her for almost an hour and saw her go to a pawnshop. She came out a short while later with a smile and something in her hand. Mao Dou and I pretended to bump into her accidentally. She staggered a few times and the paper in her hand fell to the ground. Mao Dou picked it up. She scolded us and sashayed away. We saw that she had dropped a pawn ticket. A dead pawn."
Lin Sen took the pawn ticket Mao Dou handed him. The three of them gathered together and saw that it said: One Duan inkstone, two taels of silver, two wolf hair brushes, one tael of silver.
Lin Haoran laughed. "Lin Sen, you've got something on her now and can complain to your father."
"Alright, I'll complain to my father after school."
Yangyang pulled him and shook his head. "Lin Sen, you can't complain directly. You should…"
The two of them looked at Yangyang with admiration. "Zhou Chenxi, you're really cunning."
"Pfft!" Yangyang spat and looked at the two of them proudly. "Only old men would say that I'm cunning. I'm just brave and resourceful."
"Tsk." Lin Haoran sneered. "Keep bragging!"
Yangyang smiled and patted him. He turned to look at Little Loach and Mao Dou. "Brother Loach, come and pick me up after school."
"Yes, Young Master." The two of them agreed and left.
After school, the three of them left the school together. Lin Haoran dismissed the servants who came to pick him up. Lin Sen followed the old woman back and turned around to see Yangyang and the others following behind him. He smiled at them.
Lin Sen's house was about half an hour away from the school. After seeing his father at home, Lin Sen walked to the door and said loudly to the old woman, "Granny Yue, where did you take the inkstone my maternal grandfather gave me for the Mid-Autumn Festival today?"
Granny Yue looked at Lin Sen aggrievedly. "Young Master, why are you saying such things again? I can't read. Why would I use your inkstone? Master, look at Young Master. I'm going to die from injustice."
Father Lin walked to the door and looked at Lin Sen. "Ah Sen, go back and search carefully. Don't talk to Granny like that."
Although Lin Sen had long known that this would be the outcome, he still felt a little sad. He looked at Father Lin sadly. "Father, I clearly saw her take my inkstone. Why don't you believe me?"
Granny Yue knelt at Father Lin's feet and cried, "Master, before Miss died, she entrusted Young Master to me. I've been serving Young Master with all my might all these years. I don't know who was sowing discord and making Young Master not believe me."
"Nanny, get up quickly. I'll get Ah Sen to apologize to you." Father Lin looked at Lin Sen and said, "Ah Sen, come and apologize to Granny."
"No." Lin Sen turned his head. Mr. Lin said angrily, "You…"
"Master, Young Master's classmate came outside and said that he has something to see Young Master about," the servant reported.
"Let them in." Father Lin looked at Granny Yue. "Nanny, leave first. I'll get Ah Sen to apologize to you later."
Granny Yue looked sad. "Master, I don't dare. I just want Young Master to be fine."
Lin Sen looked at her and thought to himself that the old woman was even better at pretending than an actress on the stage.
Yangyang and Lin Haoran brought Little Loach and Mao Dou into the Lin family. After the few of them went forward and bowed to Mr. Lin, they looked at Lin Sen and smiled. "Lin Sen, when Granny Yue came to pick you up, she dropped something. My follower picked it up and we came to return it to her."
Lin Sen pretended to take the pawn ticket from Yangyang. After opening it and looking at it, he walked up to Father Lin angrily and stuffed the pawn ticket into his hand. "Father, take a look."
Mr. Lin looked at the pawn in his hand in disbelief. He turned around and saw Granny Yue looking at the pawn ticket in his hand in panic. He already understood everything.
"Sen, send the classmates out first. Invite them to our house next time."
Lin Sen nodded in agreement and sent them to the door. He said to them angrily, "My father still didn't believe me just now. That old woman is very bad."
Yangyang and Lin Haoran said indignantly, "Go back quickly. We'll settle the old and new scores together."
Lin Sen nodded and returned to the courtyard. He saw Granny Yue kneeling on the ground and begging Father Lin for mercy. Lin Sen stood at the side and looked at Father Lin coldly.
"Ah Sen, come here." Mr. Lin waved at Lin Sen apologetically.
