Chapter 37 - 37. Here For My Keepsake
"This…" He gasped looking at Le Fangling since he could not believe what he perceived about her cultivation base.
He saw that the girl was still in lower stage of cultivation and her cultivation was not that well developed as compared to the other kids her age but that was to be expected considering the place she was at.
He glanced at the desolate place and could only let out a shake his head at the place. This place was already crumbling down to the point even if there was some kind of reform done to make this place better, it was futile.
The air here was stagnant and polluted and because of the miasma in the air, this place was deteriorating slowly.
If one tried to cultivate here, there was no doubt it was going to backfire on them.
But despite this unfavorable condition, he could see that Le Fangling had not grown up to be a simple mortal but she indeed had some source of strength with in herself.
But even with his divine vision, he could not figure out what it was and how she possessed something even he could not see despite being related to her by blood.
"Ahemm..young miss, May I have a word with you?" Le Zuan landed in the ground with gently as if he was a celestial being descending to earth form heaven.
"I am not trying to be rude, but please speak from there. I will try and answered your questions to the best of my ability." She did not move a muscle in her body as she confronted the great master before her.
"That is fair." He placed his arms behind his back and smiled at her.
Seeing his smile, her hand clutched more tightly around the bamboo stick and waited for him. If he did something else than speaking with her, she was ready to make them pay the price.
Their village was small and desolate with a very few population but that did not mean it was prosperous and free. Being outside the main cities and lying close to the forbidden realm, they were neglected by the lord of their province.
As for the Imperial King in the central of the twin star continent, Le Fangling doubted the royal kings who were drowning in pleasures of power and wealth even knew about their villages.
Along with the harsh condition for survival and the desert like land, their village was blessed with another misfortune.
They were raided and attacked almost every month by the local bandits and thieves. Life was hard for the mortals and it was even harder for the people here in this village. With the appearance of bandits who took away even the small portion of their hard earned crops and money, their life had been more miserable than ever.
Thinking about how those people treated their village as their property and even dared hurt the elderly people here including her granny, Le Fangling grew even more hostile towards Le Zuan and Le Zhang.
"You dare to point your weapon..err..I mean stick at him!! You are courting death!!" Le Zhang cried excitedly from the sidelines. He looked with a little confusion at the stick she was carrying feeling something odd about it but then he quickly waved it off as a simple hallucination on his part.
"Here we go again!" Le Fangling refrained herself from rolling her eyes at the brat who seemed to be somehow her age.
"Do you even know who he is?" He walked towards Le Fangling since he finally got the confidence and courage to forget the embarrassment from before.
Le Fangling: "….."
Le Zuan: "….."
A vein or two twitched on Le Zuan's forehead, making him ball his palm in to a fist as he tried to control himself from throwing a punch towards his nephew.
"No, I don't..that is why I am asking for your introduction and the reason for coming to visit this village that can offer rich people such as yourself nothing of high value except our own life." Le Fangling sneered at Le Zuan and Le Zhang.
Her voice was sharp and clear and full of emotion making both Le Zuan and Le Zhang widen their mouth and eyes in a surprised expression.
'She..she is good!' The present le Fangling who heard her speak felt goose bumps rise on her arms as she looked at the real version. Compared to her, she was clumsy, ignorant and weak both physically and mentally.
"Hehe..I never thought a day will come when I will be simping on myself." Le Fangling gave a smile as she looked at the lady who was standing with a stick on her hand confronting the two Le idiots.
Nagina too hissed and nodded her head in agreement at what she said. It was one of those rare occasion when both of them found agreement in something.
.
Hearing her answer, Le Zhang could not help but turn a bright shade of red at her remarks.
Never in his life had he ever been this humiliated by anyone nor anyone ever had the guts to talk back to him.
But now, he was flushing in humiliation in the presence of his great uncle and a simple human girl all because of few words from her.
This was simply preposterous!!
There was no way he was going to live with this shameful stain in is life.
"You…" He angrily yelled at the girl but quickly shut his mouth when he saw the angry look on his great uncle's face.
"Cough cough…" Le Zuan coughed twice to clear his throat and lighten the situation.
"I think there has been some kind of misunderstanding here." He walked two steps near her and tried to hold a conversation but Le Fangling stepped back twice exactly to maintain a specific distance.
"Dear sir, I think we can talk from even at a distance. I am allergic to strangers." She smiled politely but her eyes which were fiercely glaring at them said otherwise.
Le Fangling did not trust anyone. She had taken it upon herself to never trust anyone other than herself and her grand mom in her whole life.
"Young miss, we are here for an old lady named Wei Saiyan who lives on the bottom of the hill." Le Zuan politely informed.
"Wei Sujaa??" Le Fangling asked with a puzzled face while she grew even more alert hearing the name of her granny.
"Why would you be needing her?" She asked with doubt while gripping on to the stick.
"I am actually here to ask her to return the keepsake I left her 16 years ago.." Le Zuan gave a weird but scary smile as he answered her.
