Chapter 80: When are you going to have children ?
The next morning, I awoke to the sound of birds chirping outside the window and the warmth of Seraphina's embrace. I smiled, feeling incredibly grateful for everything we had been through and everything we had yet to face. I turned to look at Seraphina, her face peaceful in sleep, and gently brushed a stray lock of hair from her forehead.
"Good morning, my love," I whispered softly.
Seraphina stirred, a sleepy smile spreading across her face. "Good morning," she murmured, her voice husky with sleep. "Did you sleep well?"
"I did," I replied, snuggling closer to her. "It feels so good to wake up next to you."
She chuckled and kissed my forehead. "Same here. Let's stay in bed all day."
I giggled. "As tempting as that sounds, we should probably get up. We have things to do."
Seraphina pouted playfully. "Alright, but only if we can make breakfast together."
"Deal," I said, giving her a quick kiss before reluctantly pulling myself out of bed.
We stretched and yawned, enjoying the lazy morning atmosphere. After a few more moments of cuddling, we finally made our way to the kitchen, hand in hand.
"I think we should make pancakes again," Seraphina said, a mischievous glint in her eye.
"Didn't we just have pancakes yesterday?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes, but they were so good!" she said, giving me a puppy-dog look.
I laughed. "Alright, pancakes it is. But this time, we're adding chocolate chips."
"Deal," Seraphina said with a grin, and we set to work.
As we cooked, we chatted about our plans for the day, joking and teasing each other. It was a perfect morning, filled with laughter and love. Just as we were finishing up, we heard a loud knock on the door.
"Who could that be this early?" I wondered aloud.
Seraphina shrugged. "Let's find out."
We opened the door to find Seraphina's mother, Lady Elowen, standing there with a stern expression on her face.
"Good morning, Mother," Seraphina said, trying to sound cheerful.
"Good morning, Seraphina. Elara," Lady Elowen said, nodding at me. "May I come in?"
"Of course," Seraphina said, stepping aside to let her in.
Lady Elowen entered the kitchen, her eyes narrowing as she took in the sight of our breakfast preparations. "Pancakes, again?" she asked, her tone dripping with disapproval.
"Yes, Mother," Seraphina said, a hint of defiance in her voice. "We like pancakes."
Lady Elowen sighed. "Well, I suppose it's better than nothing."
"Would you like to join us?" I offered, trying to ease the tension.
"No, thank you," she said curtly. "I have already eaten."
We sat down at the table, and Lady Elowen sat across from us, her gaze piercing. "I have come to discuss some important matters," she said, her tone serious.
"Oh, here we go," Seraphina muttered under her breath.
"What was that, Seraphina?" Lady Elowen asked sharply.
"Nothing, Mother," Seraphina said, rolling her eyes.
Ignoring her, Lady Elowen turned to me. "Elara, you have done well in solving the problem in the eastern province. However, there are still many challenges ahead."
"I understand," I said, nodding. "We are ready to face them."
Lady Elowen's eyes softened slightly. "I know you are. But there is another matter I wish to discuss."
"And what might that be?" Seraphina asked, clearly annoyed.
Lady Elowen hesitated for a moment, then took a deep breath. "When are you going to have children?"
Both Seraphina and I froze, staring at her in shock.
"Mother!" Seraphina exclaimed, her face turning red. "That is none of your business!"
"It most certainly is," Lady Elowen said firmly. "You are the future of our family, and it is your duty to ensure that our lineage continues."
"We've barely had time to think about that," I said, trying to keep my voice calm. "We've been dealing with so much already."
Lady Elowen raised an eyebrow. "Well, perhaps it is time to start thinking about it. The future of our realm depends on strong leadership, and that includes the continuation of our bloodline."
Seraphina groaned. "Mother, this is not the time or place for this discussion."
"On the contrary," Lady Elowen said, her gaze unwavering. "It is precisely the time and place."
Seraphina and I exchanged a look, unsure of how to respond. Finally, Seraphina took a deep breath and spoke.
"Mother, we appreciate your concern, but this is our decision to make. We will think about it, but right now, we have other priorities."
Lady Elowen sighed. "Very well. But do not take too long. The future of our family and our realm depends on it."
With that, she stood up and left the room, leaving us sitting there in stunned silence. .
"Well, that was awkward," I said finally, breaking the silence.
Seraphina nodded. "Tell me about it. I'm sorry about that."
"It's not your fault," I said, reaching across the table to take her hand. "We'll figure it out."
"Yes, we will," Seraphina said, squeezing my hand. "Together."
We finished our breakfast in silence, each lost in our thoughts. As much as I loved Seraphina, the idea of having children was something we hadn't even begun to discuss. It was a daunting prospect, and I couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed.
After breakfast, we decided to go for a walk to clear our heads. We wandered through the castle gardens, enjoying the beauty and tranquility of the surroundings. The flowers were in full bloom, and the air was filled with their sweet fragrance. It was a perfect way to escape from the pressure of Lady Elowen's demands.
As we walked, we talked about our plans for the future, trying to find a balance between our duties and our desires. It was a difficult conversation, but it brought us closer together, and I felt a renewed sense of determination to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
We spent the rest of the day exploring the castle grounds, visiting the stables, and even taking a trip to the nearby village. It was a fun, relaxing day, and it helped to ease the tension that had been building since Lady Elowen's visit.
That evening, we returned to the castle, feeling tired but content. As we sat down to dinner, we were joined by a few member of the council.
"Congratulations, Elara, on solving the problem in the eastern province," he said, smiling warmly.
"Thank you," I said, returning his smile. "It was a team effort."
He nodded. "You did well. The people are grateful, and so are we."
As we ate, we discussed the challenges that still lay ahead and made plans for the future. It was a productive and reassuring conversation, and I felt a renewed sense of purpose and determination.
After dinner, Seraphina and I decided to take a walk around the castle grounds. The night air was cool and refreshing, and the stars shone brightly overhead. We wandered along the paths, hand in hand, talking and laughing.
"Today was a good day," Seraphina said, her voice filled with contentment.
"Yes, it was," I agreed, leaning into her. "Despite everything, we made it through."
"We always do," she said, smiling down at me.
We continued our walk, eventually finding a secluded spot where we could sit and enjoy the tranquility of the night. As we sat there, wrapped in each other's warmth, I felt a deep sense of peace and contentment.
"Thank you for today," I said softly, leaning into Seraphina's embrace.
"Thank you," she replied, kissing my forehead. "For everything."
We stayed there for a while, watching the stars and feeling a deep sense of peace. It was a perfect end to a perfect day, and I knew that with Seraphina by my side, we could handle anything.
As the night grew late, we made our way back to our room, feeling tired but content. We slipped under the covers, snuggling close together, and I felt a deep sense of peace as I drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, I awoke to the sound of birds chirping outside the window and the warmth of Seraphina's embrace. I smiled, feeling incredibly grateful for everything we had been through and everything we had yet to face.
"We should get up," Seraphina said, her voice still husky with sleep. "We have a lot to do today."
I groaned playfully. "Do we have to? I was enjoying our lazy mornings."
She chuckled. "Yes, we have to. But I promise we'll make time for more lazy mornings."
"Deal," I said, giving her a quick kiss before reluctantly pulling myself out of bed.
We stretched and yawned, enjoying the lazy morning atmosphere. After a few more moments of cuddling, we finally made our way to the kitchen, hand in hand.
"What should we make for breakfast?" Seraphina asked, opening the pantry and peering inside.
"How about omelets?" I suggested.
"Sounds good," she said, pulling out the ingredients.
We set to work, chatting and laughing as we cooked. It was a perfect morning, filled with laughter and love.
