Chapter 27: Target Found!
Chapter 27: Target Found!
Sam and Jason were on a mission, Sam led the way with what was remaining of his ammunition. The road was empty, devoid of cars but they could see a few dead bodies now and then but this was a common sight at this point.
Jason was unarmed for the most part, except for the hammer that Rachel had given him, he knew that using such weapons would be effective but he was glad that he had increased his stats so he should be stronger than he was the previous day.
He hated being a liability and he knew that they were going to see a lot worse in this apocalypse. There was no escaping it, chaos was going to be natural order in this new world and he had to be well prepared to face it.
Sam had a gentle appearance, he was approximately 5' 11 with a slender build, he was quite attractive in terms of his cuteness due to his chubby face and green eyes.
It had this hypnotic effect and with his black hair shaved at the sides yet still reaching the nape of his neck. He could easily pass for a model in a different world but not his one for this was no more. Now, it was strength that was the most useful asset in this world.
Mankind has been thrown back into an era that they thought they had long left.
Jason was glad that he was with Sam, he walked behind him with the soldier surveying the area with every step. Jason was curious to see just how strong this man before him was.
He was in the military so he had to be insanely strong, if not stronger than everyone he has met so far and thanks to Chronos, this was a reality.
"Show me his stats, Chronos," Jason thought but Chronos was unresponsive.
"Huh? Show me!" Jason reiterated but Chronos was unresponsive yet again prompting Jaosn to question if it was broken.
[Ding!]
[Error: Player Cannot Access Stats Of Others That Exceed Their Level By 5+!]
Jason didn't know if he should be made but this was refreshing, to say the least, because it meant he was in safe hands and it also meant that Sam was simply that strong.
"Jason... How did you come across those girls?" Sam asked and this was strange considering it was their first discussion.
"Why do you ask?" Jason asked, his voice matching Sam's own. They had to speak at a controlled volume.
"I know you must have figured this out but those three will become a liability much later..." Sam said. Jason hoped it wasn't what he was thinking that was happening.
"They aren't liabilities... They have held their own quite well," Jason heaped some praise on the ladies hoping to veer this conversation in their favour.
"You know what I mean, we cannot survive if we're a crowd. The kid isn't built for this world and this is why I'm asking about your relationship with them. It is better to let them go when you still haven't bonded. Your survival should be a priority..." Sam said.
Jason understood what he meant by this, it had a logical reasoning behind it as he knew that Lillian couldn't keep acting as she was or she risked putting them in danger.
Jason noted this when they first encountered the horde but that doesn't mean they should give up on her.
Jason knew that she was capable of changing, this was a new world and everyone needed to adjust to it, even he was scared when he first encountered a zombie.
If he didn't have Chronos, he would most likely be dead so it wasn't fair to blame her for a natural reaction.
"Sam, that's enough. I'm not leaving them, that's final," Jason was unwavering even though he realized he might have a better chance at survival with Sam and Clementine.
"Does Clementine share this same sentiment?" Jason asked; he wanted to know who he should be cautious of her as well.
"No, Clementine happens to like this group... And it seems you're just as dedicated..." Sam said but his tone wasn't one of disappointment.
"That is a fucking relief man! Now I know I can rely on you!" Sam blurted out.
He was testing Jason's resolve because there couldn't be any weak link if they were going to be a group.
They all had to have each other's back or they risked being torn about by internal conflict and Sam was glad that Jason passed his little test because he was willing to put a bullet in his head if he failed. Of course, he wasn't going to tell Jason that.
"Hah-!" Jason was shushed as Sam raised a finger into the air.
Luckily, they weren't travelling on the main road, they took shortcuts and manoeuvred around buildings because it would be foolish to be that exposed.
Jason wondered why he shushed him in the middle of a conversation and followed his gaze.
"That is...!" Jason muttered under his breath, a few zombies were roaming about the building.
"What the fuck? Isn't this area supposed to be clear?" Jason whispered, they hadn't seen a single zombie since they started this journey so it was a bit strange that they were here.
"It is, all zombies flocked to the sound. That can only mean one thing..." Sam said, pausing momentarily.
"... They just turned," Jason completed his sentence and this impressed Sam that he caught on, Jason wasn't stupid.
"What should we do now?" Jason asked. Sam knew acting as a decoy to draw them away would be a good choice but it would also be a risky one because no one knew what dangers awaited them.
Zombies wouldn't just be the enemies, but humans as well and what made that shop so special was that this was the only location with zombies.
It was either they died here or they were drawn here by something or someone.
Both were a possibility and Sam wasn't going to put Jason or himself in unnecessary danger if he could help it.
