Chapter 14: Severity of the Situation (3)
Chapter 14: Severity of the Situation (3)
After five minutes, Luke reached his home while drenched in sweat. He had to fight a few more fire zombies along the way, so the fire and the constant use of stamina exhausted him. Fortunately, his hard work paid off. His home was still standing, even though many houses of the region were burning. However, that region was far from peaceful. Since the smoke wasn’t so thick there, he could see three fat zombies in the distance and five fire zombies that he had ignored approaching.
“I won’t have any peace of mind knowing that those fuckers are here…” Luke said. “I have to get rid of them first and foremost.”
Luke wished that his long sword had come with a scabbard because carrying it and trying to fire more than one knife at a time was really troublesome. When the first fat zombie finally noticed Luke, it was already too late. The knife that he had thrown and became two easily pierced its cheek and then the brain… However, when the fat zombie fell, it alerted the other two.
“Just my luck,” Luke said.
The other fat zombies Began to walk toward Luke, and then he prepared two knives after putting his long sword on his right side. By doing that, he could take down both monsters. However, Luke had a bad feeling about that. Despite that, he still fired the knives while using Weapon Augmentation. However, only the knives created by magic hit the monster’s face. The other two were bitten by them. Naturally, the monsters didn’t die.
“Hey… what the fuck?” Luke muttered.
The two monsters used their charge to smash Luke, but he used Stinger and dodged the attack. He hoped that the two freaks would hit each other, but that didn’t happen. Still, he changed toward one of the monsters and slashed the sword toward the back with all his might. Luke caused some damage, but he only cut half of the neck. Luke pulled back his weapon before the monsters could turn around, and then he gained some distance over them.
Luke suddenly had a certain idea and decided to try it. When the monsters turned to face him, he used Stinger again, and in the next moment, he appeared behind one of the fat zombies, and the creature’s head rolled. The plan was a success… Although the skill said that he had to stab the target, Luke didn’t have to make his weapon tip hit the enemy. With that in mind, he inclined the blade of the sword, and then when he charged, a good part of it passed through the already damaged neck of the creature.
Luke smirked, but then the smirk disappeared when he turned around and saw the zombie making the motion to attack. In a hurry, he pointed his sword toward the enemy and then activated Stinger. Since he didn’t Aim well, Luke’s attack only scratched the neck of the monster, but at least he moved away from the front of the creature. When the monster turned around, Luke welcomed it with two knives on its face.

“Phew… fighting like this isn’t good for my heart,” Luke said and then almost fell on the ground to rest. “Finally a drop… but is this…”
Short Ice Bow
A short magic bow that is capable of firing ice arrows. It consumes three mana points to summon an arrow.
SPE + 03
Luke was quite interested in what he could do if he used that bow and Weapon Augmentation. Still, destroying a weapon to satisfy his curiosity was a bit…
Suddenly, Luke heard footsteps, and when he turned around, he saw some unexpected figures… one of them was the blonde, green-eyed beauty, who had a body to kill for, and that said no to Luke swallow feelings last weekend. Her name was Amanda… the other two were a couple that seemed in their sixties… Luke didn’t know them.
“You are… Luke, aren’t you?” Amanda asked while looking at the corpses of the fat zombies around.
“No, you got the wrong person,” Luke said and then forced a smile. “Have a nice day.”
“Why are you lying? If it is because last week, then…” Amanda said, but then stopped when she heard Luke grunting.
“Yeah, I am Luke, so what?” Luke asked, imagining what Amanda was going to ask.
Luke had no idea what Amanda was doing there, but one didn’t have to be a genius to guess what she wanted from Luke. Protection… he killed three zombies that could knock down walls and power poles, after all.
“You are the son of the couple who lives there, right?” Amanda asked. “My parents here told me that your father is a high ranked military, so we came to ask if you know about the plans of the army regarding this situation.”
Now Luke began to feel like an idiot, he already had many reasons not to look at her in the eye, but thinking like an asshole gave him another.
“No… I don’t know,” Luke replied. “They went on a trip to Europe. I returned because I wanted to find a way to communicate… shit, I wasted too much time here.”
The fire zombies approached while he was fighting, and they approached even more while he was talking. When Amanda noticed what Luke was looking at, she clicked her tongue and then took out a rapier from her back…
“Those types…” Amanda said and then turned to face Luke. “Do you want to trade that bow for this sword?”
While a melee weapon wasn’t the best weapon to use against those zombies, using a bow without experience was pretty stupid. Still, considering how fast she made that decision, Luke decided to trade weapons. He didn’t know a thing about Archery, and his skills wouldn’t work well with it.
