Chapter 26: Chapter 0025 Rich People
The Public Relations Director ended the press conference on time, arranging for Director Han and Yang Ping to slip away from the small exit of the conference hall.
The two rode the elevator down to the first floor, safely out of sight. Even if they ran into reporters, they wouldn’t be recognized.
A few people were in a hurry, their gear indicative of latecomers from the press.
When they ran into Director Han and Yang Ping, a journalist asked: “Where is the press conference?”
Director Han pointed in one direction: “Over there, it’s ongoing!”
Without questioning where exactly ‘there’ was, the journalists rushed off in the direction Han pointed.
The two men then left the hospital.
“You should go home and rest today, and take off tomorrow as well. Turn off your phone.” Director Han dismissed with a wave of his hand.
Yang Ping was indeed feeling worn out, his strides stiff and arduous as he walked. He knew if he had to perform another surgery, he wouldn’t last.
After bidding Director Han goodbye, he returned to his place, managed a shower, then collapsed face-up on his bed.
Thinking of Su Yixuan’s embrace in the operation room earlier that day, Yang Ping felt revitalized, he touched his face which was still warm. He shouldn’t have washed it earlier.
If it meant receiving more embraces like that, he would gladly take on ten more surgeries.
Tsk, she was just happy. It’s the same as shaking hands, he thought to himself.
Yang Ping discarded these thoughts and excitedly accessed his training system. He had earned a whopping 16,000 points. Checking his total, he was up to 17,000 points.
With so many points on hand, he felt like a millionaire! In contrast to his earlier empty-handedness, this feeling was truly wonderful.
Although he couldn’t afford to splurge on soy milk and get two bowls at a time, he could at least now afford an extra spoon.
The first page still displayed the training packages: Bone Traction Technique, Skin Grafting, Bone Grafting, Periosteum Separation Technique, Tendon Fixation Technique, Cast Fixation, Splint Fixation, Bandaging Technique, Local Anaesthesia, Amputation, Surgical Handwashing, Surgical Disinfection, Surgical Dress Changing, Surgical Positioning, Patient Transfer and more.
All of these were basic surgical techniques, many of which were specialized for Orthopedics. The cost wasn’t high, only a few hundred points each. The training time for each was short, varying from three, seven to ten days. He had already purchased a portion of these before.
Scrolling further down, the second page had been unlocked, but all sections were greyed out: Clavicle Fracture, Humerus Fracture, Ulna and Radius Fracture, Femur Fracture, Tibia and Fibula Fracture, Pelvic Fracture, Acetabulum Fracture, and more. All were trainings for fractures of the limbs and pelvis.
He could read about these, but couldn’t purchase them yet.
Yang Ping wasn’t sure when he would be able to purchase these or what the prerequisites were. The system had its quirks and he would need to spend more time to study it thoroughly.
Yang Ping decided it was essential to purchase the basic techniques listed on the first page. As the saying goes, a towering structure starts from the ground up. With a solid foundation, the journey ahead would be smoother. After some calculations, he knew he would still have a decent amount of points left even after purchasing these pacakges, so he bought all of them.
After undergoing all the training he’d just purchased, nearly four months passed in the system.
The experience wasn’t as gruelling now. He had adapted to the system’s time framework, and was especially engrossed when learning things of interest. The time seemed to pass quickly.
Having completed the training, he checked the screen again, and to his surprise, found that all items on the second page had turned from grey to gold, indicating they were now available for purchase.
It turned out that he needed to complete all the training on the first page before he could purchase those on the second.
The system’s progression seemed to have its own arrangement. Yang Ping calculated that he still had over 9,000 points left. He had no idea what surgeries he might encounter in the future, so he decided to hold onto these points for now.
The only procedure he was really adept at now was a finger replantation. For a significant amount of time to come, he would have to rely on finger replantations to earn and accumulate points. He would then gradually use these points to purchase more system training and improve other techniques.
But Sanbo was a general hospital, unlike a specialised hand surgery hospital. He couldn’t realistically expect many finger replantation surgeries, so his situation was still quite difficult.
However, there were always more solutions than problems.
For now, Yang Ping decided to take things one step at a time.
After exiting the system, Yang Ping fell into a deep, satisfying sleep.
He woke up at ten the next morning, casually ate something, read for a few hours, then went back to bed.
When he woke up again, it was already past six in the afternoon. He had missed a dozen calls, all from Little Five.
Yang Ping called him back.
“Hello! Bro, are you awake? There’s a department gathering tonight, with the Emergency Department and the Operation Room too. We’re going to the ‘Five Lakes and Four Seas’ restaurant. Hurry up! I’m downstairs at our rental apartment building, you can come down now.”
As soon as the call connected, Little Five immediately spoke, fearing that he wouldn’t get a hold of Yang Ping again.
Little Five and Yang Ping lived in the same building. Little Five was on the 16th floor while Yang Ping was on the 20th. Little Five had rented the apartments initially, saying it was better for the two brothers to watch out for each other.
Yang Ping quickly freshened up. He was covered in sweat, so he needed a shower and a change of clothes.
All these departments having a gathering together, there might be some beauties, especially that surgical nurse Su Yixuan. She would definitely be going.
After showering and changing, he combed his hair while calling and taking the elevator downstairs.
“I’m under the tree across the street!” Little Five instructed over the call.
Yang Ping exited the building and stood by the road. Looking across the street, there was a car parked under a tree, but no one was in sight.
“The black car, license plate number–?” Little Five guided over the call.
Yang Ping looked and saw a black Audi A6 sedan parked by the roadside.
Seeing no cars approaching from either direction, Yang Ping crossed the road, opened the passenger side door and got in.
“When did you get a car?” Yang Ping asked while fastening his seatbelt.
“It’s Xiao Qing’s,” Little Five replied.
“I slept the whole day away and nobody woke me up. Nothing happened at the department, right?” Yang Ping was worried about the post-op patients.
Little Five answered, “Director Han gave instructions not to call you unless it was absolutely necessary. I’ve been waiting for you downstairs for more than an hour. If you didn’t pick up, I was about to go upstairs and knock on your door. The patient with the severed limb, the blood flow is very good. Director Han and I went to see him when I got off work.”
Yang Ping checked out the interior of the car. It was new, and he remarked, “First, you swindled the girl, and now you’ve swindled a car?”
“Bro, please reassess your worldview. This isn’t swindling; she introduced me to her parents,” Little Five beamed proudly.
“Her parents approved?” Yang Ping inquired.
Little Five nodded, “They didn’t just approve, they’re pushing us to get married.”
Yang Ping looked Little Five up and down. He had to admit, he was a bit envious.
“Director Han asked me to pick you up, they should all be there already.”
Little Five started the car, moved a few meters, then stopped again, fumbling clumsily with the turn signal.
“Can you drive at all? I’ve never seen you drive before. When did you get your license? Recently?” Yang Ping was getting nervous.
“Oh, I got it three years ago.”
“You haven’t driven in three years?” Yang Ping rechecked his seatbelt was good and secure.
“It’s been a while… The turn signal, up is for a right turn, right?” Little Five continued fiddling.
“Bro, let me out. I’ll take a cab there. You take your time,” Yang Ping was sweating with fear.
“Don’t panic! A true brother would dare to sit in the passenger seat at this moment.”
He then stepped on the accelerator.
The car shot off.
