Chapter 1088 Salvation

The Gods struggled against the Primal. They had a numerical advantage, and the Primal were restrained by the lack of Essence in the Beginning, yet the Gods didn't gain on the ground against the Primal.
Fenrir transformed into a flash and pounced the nearest Primal, his massive claws coated in the power of Extraction. However, before his claws could hit the target, the Primal either disappeared, evading the attack, or an Essence Wall erupted before him. The Essence Wall wouldn't last long against Fenrir and his Extraction-coated claws, but they were strong enough to stall him for a few seconds.
That gave the Primal enough time to counterattack or to deal with the other Gods. The Primal chose to do both. He created hundreds of Essence Spears on a whim and attacked Fenrir with half of them, forcing the great wolf to retreat.
Fenrir compromised his size while evading the Essence Spears, but he had been a little too late. Three Essence Spears pierced his sides before the great wolf could transform into a horse-sized monster. The Essence Spears didn't explode, but they released the Essence that held them together into the surroundings while disintegrating.
The Essence filled Fenrir, slowing the great wolf. Fenrir was forced to retaliate by sending waves of Extraction's power through his body. However, even that wasn't a perfect solution.
Fenrir was forced to throw his Essence against the Primal's Essence to expel it from his body. That required both attention and energy – or Essence – and wasted precious seconds.
Jormungandr and Hel weren't in a good position either. Their situation was not as bad as their brother's, but it was only a matter of time before more problems arose. Jormungandr blocked more than one hundred Essence Spears with his body. He was forced to use the Power Authority through his scales, which was enough to block the incoming attacks.
If the situation had been a little different, Jormungandr would have focused on attacking, using the Power Authority and the Law of Poison to deal devastating damage to the Primal and the surrounding land, but instead of switching to the offense with mindless attacks, the World Serpent focused on the defense. He stalled the Primal and let his siblings deal proper damage.
Fenrir may not have inflicted much damage, but the great wolf's attacks forced the Primal to retaliate against the projectiles made by Essence. The more Essence the Primal used, the better. That was something everyone had learned about the Primal the hard way. The Primal would be problematic enemies as long as they possessed enough Essence to do something. Only by draining their Essence to a dangerously low level would their prowess drop considerably.
Hel focused on that task just like Fenrir. She cast Death upon the Primal before them to weaken their enemy. However, the Primal blocked Hel's Death much easier than other beings could. As beings who weren't afraid of death – or rumored to be fearless in the face of death –, the Primal weren't prone to Death Afflictions. Mortals and the present Gods, Demi Gods, and other beings were easier to inflict with Death. After all, everyone present other than the Primal was either forced to face death occasionally or had been standing on the brink of death too long in the past.
One way or another, the three siblings were forced to combine their power to stall one of the chubby Primal. Even then, it was obvious that the Primal wasn't at a disadvantage. On the contrary, the Primal had the time and enough concentration left to attack the World Serpent at the exact same spot. Nothing important happened at first, but after the 10th or 20th Essence Spear struck the same serpent scale…it shattered. Even the Power Authority wasn't capable of augmenting the World Serpent's natural regeneration. He needed Michael's Soultrait and Nature Divinity to heal him instantly. However, the Beast Gods and Michael weren't part of the same anymore. They had been separated.
The Essence Spear shattered one serpent scale and dug deep into Jormungandr's flesh. The World Serpent hissed in pain and anger and switched to offensive. However, that was exactly what the Primal had been hoping for. Three of Loki's children attacked the Primal together, but all the Primal did was smile.
It was a devious smile, which should have been warning enough. The Primal summoned a Storm of Essence and accelerated. Instead of using his Essence sparingly, the Primal had chosen to unleash their fury. After all, they could only use their Essence as long as they were still alive. Even if they may change the weave by using massive amounts of Essence, they would survive. That was their highest priority.
After all, they had to survive no matter what.
As for the reason they had to survive…they had forgotten. Did they ever have a reason to stay alive? Wasn't it normal to desire staying alive?
Jormungandr's Poison Law infested the Storm of Essence just like Hel's Death attached to the storm. At last, Fenrir's Extraction power joined the fray and feasted on the Storm of Essence flooding the vicinity. The Laws and Authorities worked well against the Storm of Essence. They tore apart the Storm of Essence, even though it was a slow process.
Unfortunately, by paying attention to the Storm of Essence, the three Gods forgot about the Primal.
He appeared in their midst, waving a massive blade across Hel's stomach while a massive lance pierced through Jormungandr's shattered serpent scale. Hel's stomach burst open and a fountain of blood spilled out of the World Serpent's massive body.
Simultaneously, massive chains made from Essence coiled around Fenrir's neck and legs. Fenrir roared in fury and reacted quickly, but the Primal had already appeared next to him with a spear in his hands. He pulled the spear back and was about to drive the spear deep into Fenrir's eyeball when something unexpected happened.
A familiar Primal appeared before the Primal the siblings had been fighting.
"That's enough." Gluvos murmured, stretching his hand out.
"We've suffered long enough. Salvation has come."
