Chapter 273 - 273 Inviting a Wolf into the House

273 Inviting a Wolf into the House

The girl looked to be about 16 or 17 years old. She had bright eyes, white teeth, and red lips. Though her face was slightly chubby, one could already tell that she was a beauty.

Under the awkward atmosphere, the two of them stared at each other.

A moment later, the girl frowned slightly. She stared at Lin Ran and asked coldly, “Who are you?”

As soon as the girl spoke, Lin Ran recognized that it was the female that had brought people to look for him just now. However, looking at her beautiful face, he felt that he no longer hated her that much.

“My name is Huo Qiyun.”

Lin Ran replied without hesitation, “Who are you?”

As he spoke, Lin Ran sent a wisp of divine sense to investigate the girl, planning to find out more about her first.

However, there was no response, as if there was nothing there. However, the girl was clearly squatting in front of Lin Ran.

Lin Ran was puzzled, but he didn’t show it on his face. In addition, the divine sense he released was extremely concealed, so the girl didn’t notice anything unusual.

“My name is Ye Jin.”

The girl replied, her vigilant gaze landing on Lin Ran’s face. “You’re not from the Iron City. I’ve never seen you before… What are you doing here?”

Hearing this, Lin Ran suddenly heaved a sigh of relief.

Since Ye Jin asked this question, it meant that she didn’t know that the Black Shadow Saber was on him. She might not even know what the thief looked like.

This way, Lin Ran could easily brush her off.

“I’m a traveller.”

Lin Ran straightened his body and tried his best to cover the sword box on his back. “I heard that there’s a city made of metal here, so I came to take a look.”

“Is it that simple?”

There was a hint of suspicion in Ye Jin’s vigilant eyes.

“Simple as that.”

Lin Ran replied calmly, thinking that it would not be a problem to fool a little girl.

As expected, the vigilance in Ye Jin’s eyes subsided a lot, but there was still a hint of suspicion. “Then why are you hiding here sneakily?”

“I saw lots of people running towards that direction and thought that something dangerous was happening. Of course I have to be careful.”

Lin Ran replied righteously. Before Ye Jin could speak, he asked, “By the way, what happened just now? Why were so many people running in that direction?”

“Don’t ask what you shouldn’t ask!”

Ye Jin replied coldly. Then, she stood up from the ground. “It’s not safe outside now. Hurry up and find a place to stay.”

With that, Ye Jin was about to leave when Lin Ran grabbed her and said, “Wait!”

Ye Jin frowned in confusion. “What?”

“I just entered the city and am not familiar with this place.”

Lin Ran looked troubled and took out some money. “Can you help me find a place to live?”

When Ye Jin saw the money, she was clearly tempted, but she did not take it. She pointed in a direction and said impatiently, “There’s an inn over there. I still have something to do. Go over yourself.”

Lin Ran looked in the direction she was pointing and realized that Ye Jin was probably talking about the inn he was staying in just now. He quickly shook his head. “No, no. This place is not safe. Can you take me to an inn further away?”

As he spoke, Lin Ran handed the money forward. Although he didn’t say it explicitly, the meaning was obvious.

Looking at the money in front of her, Ye Jin finally nodded. “Then I’ll bring you to my house… Don’t misunderstand! I’m not doing this to earn your money!”

“I understand! I understand!”

Lin Ran chuckled and nodded repeatedly. He took Ye Jin’s hand and stuffed the money into it. “Take it as my rent!”

Ye Jin silently stuffed the money into her pocket. “Follow me!”

With that, Ye Jin walked towards the other end of the alley. When she passed by the pile of junk in the middle of the alley, Lin Ran clearly noticed that she leaned sideways, as if she didn’t want to get close to the pile.

Lin Ran took the opportunity to ask, “What are these things? Why are they piled up here?”

“Nothing. It’s just some junk.”

Ye Jin replied casually. As she spoke, she subconsciously glanced at the pile of junk with obvious fear in her eyes.

However, the two of them were not familiar with each other yet. Ye Jin was obviously resistant to that pile of things, so Lin Ran didn’t ask further.

After walking out of the alley and passing through a few narrow alleys, Ye Jin stopped in front of a two-story building.

Seeing the 30-foot-tall metal city wall behind the building, Lin Ran knew that this was already the edge of the Iron City. It was rare to see an inn open in such a remote place.

As he thought to himself, Ye Jin had already pushed open the door. Only then did Lin Ran realize that this didn’t seem to be an inn. Although it was very spacious, there were no tables, chairs, or anything like that. Instead, there were clay stoves that were as tall as a person.

These clay stoves were clearly old, and the surface was cracked.

There was no fire in the furnace at all. It was like a pitch-black mouth. All signs indicated that this was an abandoned blacksmith shop.

“This is your house?”

Lin Ran frowned slightly and asked suspiciously. When Ye Jin said that she wanted to bring him home, he really thought that her family owned an inn.

Ye Jin nodded, looking a little embarrassed. “Everyone went to catch the saber thief. If I take you to an inn, there might not be anyone to receive you, so… so…”

Halfway through, Ye Jin started to stutter. Looking at the embarrassment on her face, it was obvious that she couldn’t continue lying.

“It’s fine. This place is quite nice.”

Lin Ran smiled calmly. Looking at the dilapidated clay stoves, his eyes flickered. “It just so happens that I can do something else here too.”

“Something else?”

Ye Jin was stunned when she heard this. Then, she thought of something and blushed. “Don’t do anything you shouldn’t! My father is upstairs. If you dare to do anything to me, my father will definitely not let you off!”

...

“What nonsense are you talking about?”

Lin Ran rolled his eyes angrily. Then, he untied the sword box on his back and reached in. Under the cover of the sword box, he summoned the Ten Miles Dragon Roar. “I want to ask if you can help me reforge this sword!”
