Chapter 3
Chapter 3: Chapter 3 – Preoccupied
Cleaning up her appearance, Feng Mei walked into her office with renewed confidence. On the mirror in front of her she saw the devastated look on Eliot’s face as he stood outside the glass door. For a minute her heart ached, but she did not stop or turn back. They were already at the stage relationship where it cannot be redeemed; it would be hopeless to even try.
Taking a deep breath she entered the lift. There was a young lad already inside the lift. He was dressed up in a white turtle neck and black slacks. His thick glasses hid his eyes. ‘Nerd? No, an otaku?’ she concluded as he glanced down at his laptop bag which was covered in doremon stickers.
None of the floor numbers were pressed so she whispered, “Which floor?”
“Third,” he whispered in a mosquito like voice.
Nodding she pressed the number and waited.
The lift led them to her floor. her assistant was walking around anxiously with a huge file in hand. “ah miss, you are here already. Oh looks like you have met Mr. Ling as well.” He said with a cheerful smile.
Only then did she realise this otaku next to her was her company’s new potential business partner. With a small smile she welcomed him to the meeting room. All the while the guy kept his head down without any words.
.....
“Feng!” someone shouted from behind. It was Eliot he had followed her up using thr emergency stairwell.
Giving him a small glare she entered the meeting room after mister Ling.
The meeting started on a dull note. Mister Ling was...less than enthusiastic to explain how his love game progressed or how it interacts with teh NPC’s. Sighing, Feng listened to this.
Her phone chimes right at this moment bringing her out of her reverie. Glancing down she saw a text from the most detestable person in her life, her rival, Eliot.
“I’m sorry,” he had sent.
‘Sorry doesn’t cut it. First he steals my father, my happiness now my job and all he has to say is sorry. can’t he find a better excuse? this dimwit, I hope he had diarrhea,’ she thought but she only replied with a word, “Rejected,”
For that he replied. “Need a reappeal,”
“Rejected again,” she sent without any hesitation.
‘After all these years he wants to reappeal with me. Che, not a chance. Let him wallow in his miserable position of the CEO of my father’s company. ahh, I sound bitter even to myself,’ she thought holding her aching head. but the thought of reconciliation with him...
“I hate it,” she said out loud subconsciously.
Suddenly there was a knock on the door and Eliot stood near the doorway.
Glaring at him, she excused herself and walked out.
She dragged him over to the corridor. They were in the middle of an empty hallway so even a pin dropping sound will echo loudly. “What do you want?” she whisper shouted.
“I want to talk. can you spare me some time?” he said with the same wooden expression.
“Can’t you see I’m busy? I don’t have any time for riff raffs.” she said and walked back to the meeting room. but the room was already empty. the presenter Mr.Ling was no where to be seen.
“Shit I should have known that it was one of his ploys,” she stomped. swiftly she called up her assistant. “Where is mister Ling?”
“Gone, he is gone. miss....why did you have to be so truthful all the time. You shouldn’t have said that you hated it to his face.” Lous said.
“What! when did I do that?” Feng shouted.
The other line went quiet. “It was when Mister Ling was presenting his game characters amd plot. you said you hated it and walked away,” he explained.
“Oh god, I didn’t mean that. I was talking about that bastard Eliot,” she shouted.
just at that minute Eliot walked into teh meeting room with his impassive face. “So you hate me?”
“Eliot, you are testing my patience. I lost an important deal because I was preoccupied by your stupid whining. if you want attention then crawl back to your mother,” she shouted at him and stomped away.
Her heels clicked loudly as she walked but slowly she came to a stop. Blaming him was wrong but.... “Ahhhh I’m a bitch. I shouldn’t have talked to him like that. poor kid,” she whispered when she thought back to his miserable expression.
