Chapter 20
Chapter 20: Chapter 20 – Dance Debacle
Feng was speechless. She glanced at the little brunet girl clinging to her legs. ‘Am I too motherly? I attracted a lot of kids, either way. I’m fond of them. What’s wrong in indulging them a little,” she gently cupped her face. “Little miss Elle, how rude of me not to introduce myself, I’m Feng Mei. You can call me meimei. And I would love to dace,”
The little girl gave a dazzling smile and hugged her waist. “Grandma, I’m dancing my first dance with her,”
“This....” Hiliana was in quiet a debacle. The first dance is always reserved for the parents or blood relatives. To have her dance with a stranger further more than a girl at that was not proper. She glanced at little Feng thoughtfully.
Understanding her gaze, Feng sighed. “Little miss; I have no practice dancing in balls like this. Why don’t you demonstrate it with your brother so that I can dance with you next?” she pinched her supple cheeks.
Elle pouted, yet she nodded at her request. “You should only dance with me, no one else,”
Feng was about to nod to that, but a little hand tugged at her hand. “Feng dance with me,” Ethan whispered with a frown.
Aiden was not far behind. He also ran to her and hugged her waist dotingly. “Me too, me too,”
.....
Seeing their actions Elle frowned, “no, she will only dance with me. Only me,”
Ethan glared at her. “No, only with us. Feng don’t dance with her.” He glanced at her expectantly.
But Feng smiled awkwardly and patted his head. “Ethan my dear, it’s okay. I shall dance with you after going to our room,”
Ethan scoffed and let go of her skirt. “Aiden lets go,” he tugged his brother and ran away into the crowd.
“wait...” Feng was planning to follow but little Elle clung to her with a pout.
Unable to reject her, she stood stiffly. ‘My poor little kids..... I’m so sad.. I wanted to dance with them too. But sadly, I can’t reject her because of lady Hiliana’s kindness. I Guess I have a deep talk with them,’
Sighing, she held the delicate hands of the little child.
“Sorry my sister is a little hand full,” Alvin whispered apologetically.
“It’s okay. I like cute kids,”
Right then the music changed suddenly into an upbeat one.
“Elle, its time for ours dance,” Alvin held his hand out and the little girl reluctantly took it.
“Your first dance is with me,” she shouted before pulling her brother to the centre floor.
Watching her gracefully dance, Feng chuckled. “Now I have to find my little angelic brats,” she wandered around and did not even see a trace of them. A small worry nipped at her. “Where are they?” she rushed around again and still she did not see them. “Maybe they went out,”‘ she went over to the doorman and inquired about them. Even he had not seen them. “Then they have to be here,”
She rushed over to the food area and searched again. The young man with the annoying aristocratic woman suddenly held her hand. “Miss,”
“Sir, I’m in a hurry. Can you please unhand me?” she whispered worriedly glancing around.
“If you are looking for the kids you should start with the windows,” he gestured to the floor to ceiling windows that were covered with curtains.
“Have you seen them?”
“I saw a glimpse of their blond hair.”
“Thank you,” Feng pulled her hand out and rushed over there. She went over curtain to curtain searching inside. “Aiden! Ethan! Where are you?”
A childlike voice scoffed at her.
“Ethan!” she pushed the heavy curtains and rushed ahead to him. The little kid did not once face her. “Why did you both run off and hide like this? I was so worried,” she went for a hug but he dodged her. For a second Feng was startled. ‘This is like déjà vu, it’s exactly what Eliot used to do...’
She folded her hands unsurely and peered at him. “Are you upset that I did not dance with you?”
“.....”
“I’m sorry but don’t shun me. I don’t like it,” she whispered with a deep frown.
“You were the one,”
“huh?”
“You were the one who shunned us.” Ethan mumbled softly.
“No, I didn’t. Even though I’ve known you both for a short time I became quite fond of you both. Please don’t say I shunned you. I think of you both as my kin,”
“If you are so fond of us, why did you agree to not dance with us?” Aiden softly whispered from behind Ethan.
“It was not intentional, I am forever indebted to lady Hiliana for rescuing us so I had to accept to Elle’s request,” Feng defended fiercely. But the kids did not seem convinced. She squatted down to their height and held them up.
Startled by her sudden act, Ethan squealed a little and held her shoulders. “W-what are you doing? Un hand me,”
“No, not until you both forgive me,” Feng whispered, burrowing her head in his neck.
“You bully,” Ethan whispered, and Aiden mirrored him, “yes, you bully us a lot,” he whined and snuggled against her.
