Chapter 9: First evolution: The Dreadwing mosquito
Chapter 9: First evolution: The Dreadwing mosquito
As Ben studied his new status, he couldn't help but grin from ear to ear. His stats had received a significant boost, and he now possessed three powerful active skills exclusive to the Dreadwing Mosquito.
"Blood needle, soul drain..." Ben murmured, testing the names on his tongue. He could already sense the immense potential behind these skills, envisioning how they could aid him in battle and survival.
Eager to put his newfound abilities to the test, Ben focused his attention on a nearby mutant spider, which made him break his legs.
[There are even more features available for use by hosts; to activate these features, you need to gain life experience from killing an enemy.]
"Killing an enemy!" Ben was completely stunned at the system's first killing, which was not a very good word to use in the world he belonged to. But judging by the fact that he was in monster form now, Ben was not that na?ve to follow the old world rules in the battle for survival.
"Alright, fine, let me search for the enemy," Ben declared before he took off for a flight, much faster and higher than before.
"You're right there!" Ben observed the fist-sized black mutant spider with yellow dots on its body, which was standing on its web atop a pine tree.
He launched into the air with a flap of his enhanced wings, unleashing a powerful buzz that disoriented and stunned the spider. Ben took advantage of the situation by closing the distance between himself and his opponent and activating his blood needle skill just in time to strike.
╔═╣Blood needle╠═╗
When Ben chanted the skill while flying, a sharp but small needle-shaped, crimson-red aura launched from his fangs with enough recoil force to disrupt his smooth flight, causing him to miss his aim and strike the spider back, piercing through its thick black skin.
[HP:4.5/5.0]
A notification popped up on his screen, signaling his loss of HP due to a blood needle attack.
{A/N: In case you ignored reading it, each blood needle attack costs Ben 0.5 points from his HP.}
"Damn, that hit hard," Ben grunted, trying to balance himself in the air before his mosquito senses screamed danger.
Without a second thought, Ben used all his strength to turn left, just to see a small green projectile passing nearby.
"Bang": A small burning sound passed through the air as the green ball hit that leaf behind Ben, making a small hole in it.
"What kind of absurdly absurd ability is that? Is this some acid ball or something?" Ben shouted in shock; his crystal red eyes almost popped out of his sockets while looking at the damage on the leaf.
"Bang-Bang"
Ben dodged two more acid balls while observing his opponent to figure out a way to defeat him.
"The damage is heavier than my blood needle attack, and the acid ball blasts at the slightest moment of contact, which means there is only one way I can have an advantage over it." He thought with a frown before he prepared a blood needle in his fangs and instantly zapped towards the spider, who was preparing a green acid ball in its fangs.
"It's all about timing," Ben concluded before launching his skill.
╔═╣Blood needle╠═╗
Just as the black mutant spider was about to shoot another acid ball, Ben shot his blood needle at the green ball the spider had yet to prepare.
"Bang!"
With a blasting sound, the acid ball spread into a small acid shower. Although the acid spray didn't kill the spider, it was enough to melt the spider web the black spider was standing on.
"The bigger you are, the heavier you fall," Ben said, watching the black spider fall from the top of the pine tree. But contrary to his expectations, the spider released a thread of spider silk from its body to stop its fall midway.
"Not that easy, my boy," Ben said, directly flying down towards the spider before he took a sharp turn at the last moment and prepared a blood needle skill while moving towards the spider thread.
╔═╣Blood needle╠═╗
With an air-piercing sound, the shag needle of red aura hit the spider thread from close range, cutting it midway and sending the spider into a freefall.
"Ding!!"
[A mutant spider has been killed. Please go near the spider's body and use the soul drain skill to gain exp.
"Wow! So I killed a fist-size black mutant spider, and I feel nothing!" Ben said, in a mocking tone. " So would the almighty reincarnation system care to explain this event?"
[I am sorry for your inconvenience. Even with your memories linked to the system, since you currently reside in a mosquito body, you are unable to feel human emotions.]
"Is that so?" Ben spoke in a serious tone, which was quite unusual since he hadn't felt this complicated since reincarnating into this new world. So far, everything was like a game to him where he could just complete quests and level up, but now things were getting complex from his side.
"Hey system! Isn't there any other way for me to level up without killing other beings?" Ben asked, slowly descending through the air.
[ Host, besides absorbing soul essence, there is no other way to obtain substantial energy. If you wait too long to kill these lives that can reincarnate once the reincarnation system is repaired, you may not be able to save the souls that cannot be born or die due to the reincarnation system being absent.]
"As expected of a system, you can only think of greater benefit and minimal loss... Never mind, I am just dumb." Ben chuckled before he stood before the black mutant spider that was now squashed flat on the ground.
