Chapter 137 Assassinating Max And Maggie [1]
Somewhere in the Great Desert…
A group of 6 hunters wearing the iconic Brown uniform with the emblem of a flying Eagle of the Hunter Union moved through the desert as they watched their surroundings alertly.
The one who led them at the front with red hair was their captain.
"Captain, don't you think the distance is longer this time?" One of the warriors, a female who was the shortest among them asked.
"Shortest, have you ever been to the desert before?"
The short female with her blonde hair tied into a bun stomped the desert as she glared at this taller warrior. "I dare you to call me shortest again?!"
"Sorry, tallest".
"Hahaha…"
The other hunters in the team of 6 laughed, causing the short female to fume even more as she looked to her Captain for help.
The Captain ignored her. "Have you guys forgotten that we're in a dangerous region? Stop with the jokes and focus on the mission".
One of the other males in the team chuckled. "Captain, Shortest started it".
"You dare…?!"
The short female pounced on this warrior, finally forcing the Captain to react as he grabbed the 2 of them effortlessly like rag dolls before smacking them on the head to punish them.
"If you make any more trouble, you'll both answer to the Commander on our return to the base".
"Humph!" They glared at each other before turning away.
As veteran hunters representing the Hunter Union in the Core Protection Alliance, though 5 of them were Grade E superhumans with only the Captain being a Grade D superhuman, they were still all elite hunters.
They were able to navigate through the desert in such a way where they avoided most beasts, which translated to avoiding unnecessary battles.
About an hour later, their Captain stopped them.
"It's getting late, let's stop to rest before we attract a Sand Worm".
As one of the mainstream organizations in Planet Darvis and one that dealt most with the beasts after the apocalypse, the desert was one of the main hunting grounds of the Hunter Union and they had refuges here for their warriors.
The Captain led this warrior to locate one of the refuges.
It was a bunker built like a cave under the desert.
They watched their surroundings, and after confirming that no one was watching them, they finally entered the hunter refuge.
Whoosh!
A silhouette collapsed from the skies far away from them as soon as they entered the refuge, from afar in the skies, Maggie saw everything but she was too weak to levitate any longer as she collapsed on the desert.
She already lost too much blood, her vision was dizzy but she forced herself to look at the wrist watch that was on her wrist.
Beep! Beep!
The wrist watch beeped twice the next moment, she heaved a sigh of relief. This was a tracking device that she and her twin had, they used it to locate each other if they ever got lost in the desert.
4 minutes later, the sand beside her loosened as her brother dug his way out of it. Max panted as he laid on the sand, also exhausted.
Though he already wrapped his hand with his cloth, the massive injury was still bringing blood and he had no bandages to nurse it.
If it continued bleeding without being attended to, he would surely lose his life and Max feared that outcome.
"I saw some hunters enter a refuge, perhaps, we can get first aid kit from them". Maggie spoke as she forced herself to stand up.
This originally beautiful warrior was nowhere to be seen, Legolas's obliterate space ability did her really bad, she was like a sieve that was wrongly made and severely neglected by its creator during its creation.
As Max looked at his sister, he gritted his teeth. "That Sexy Chocolate…!"
"I never knew he was that strong".
Maggie sighed. "Doesn't matter, let's take care of ourselves first".
They crawled their way to the entrance of the refuge.
…
Inside the refuge, all 6 warriors laid on the ground as they made jokes.
The short female hunter's voice was loud. "Hahaha…, do you remember that day, in the market, I almost laughed my guts out".
"He said, hey, tallest, come, I have your shirt size, hahaha!"
Captain Stoke turned to look at the only female in his team with a sigh. "You've started again, I don't want to hear any sound when they hit back at you, enjoy it now and don't complain later".
"But Captain…"
Boom!
All 6 hunters were startled as they scrambled to get their weapons.
Max and Maggie took no chances, from the onset, they used their combined specialty and created Plasma Sabers through which they cut the iron door apart.
The next moment, they created a flowing Lava that covered half of this refuge, spooking the hunters who already recognized that these 2 injured warriors were Grade D Elementalists.
Captain Stoke was fast to react on seeing them injured, from this little display, he could already tell that they stood no chance against them.
"I have first aid kits, I can help".
"Just spare my life and those of my subordinates".
"Good". Maggie nodded coldly. "You'll help us attend to our wounds, if you try anything silly, this lava is testament of our powers".
"We can cover this whole refuge with lava and bury ourselves in".
"We won't try anything silly". Captain Stoke promised.
"Good".
Both psychopaths finally collapsed on the floor, they used the last of their mana to pull this stunt and was now in a recovery stage.
They were weak but having seen what they were capable of already, Captain Stoke warned his hunters for prudence as they brought the first aid kits.
After moving closer as slowly as he could, he took the lead and started administering first aid treatment to them. In no time, they were able to stop the bleeding as the 2 Red Masters were finally able to catch their breath.
"Do you have food?" Max asked.
"Yes". Captain Stoke ordered his hunters to bring food.
As they started eating, they regained some strength as they just laid on their back with the intent to rest and properly recover.
Unknown to them, retribution was close already.

Legolas felt like his nose suddenly became godly tools.
With them alone after getting the general direction from Christensen, and with his previous tracking skills, he was able to track their targets halfway across the desert until they finally arrived before this sand dune.
"They're down there". Legolas pointed down.
Then as silently as he could, he led Blade down there.
As they went closer, it did not take them long before they discovered the iron door that was cut apart by sharp and extremely hot objects.
"Plasma Sabers!" Legolas's eyes narrowed.
"That's their weapon". Blade also recognized it as his eyes gleamed with all the hate that he could muster.
Legolas turned to look at him one last time. "Are you ready?"
Blade took a deep breath. "Yes".
"Good, follow me cautiously".
He took the first step closer before jumping in through the door.
