Chapter 50: A Wife With Incredible Foresight

Seeing her son's face of disbelief, Mother Ji glared at him. “Why? You don't believe me?”
“Mother, those types of things don’t exist,” Ji Jianyun said helplessly.
“What does not exist? If it was not like this, why would she take a watering can as a cover to go up to the mountain when there are new saplings being planted? Why would she need to water them when others are already doing these things? Don’t go up there because as soon as you get there, the plants will immediately notice and warn her, and then the Great Fox Immortal won’t be able to cast her magic!” Mother Ji exclaimed.
In the past, when her son had not returned yet, she would go to the mountain with Su Danhong. However, Su Danhong always asked her to stay at the bottom of the mountain and wait for her while she climbed the mountain alone. Su Danhong did not say why she did this, which left Mother Ji guessing.
Mother Ji made many guesses and finally came to this conclusion.
Mother Ji also believed what some people in the village said even if she seemed to disapprove of it. She praised her daughter-in-law for being lucky and believed that she was destined to have money.
As Mother Ji said, Su Danhong had an aura that at first glance was exactly the same as a young lady from a landlord's family of the past. The more one looked, the more blessed she appeared. Thus, everyone slowly accepted this view.
And now that Su Danhong was also hiring people, her aura was very magnificent. She spent dozens of yuan a month to hire people without batting an eyelid. Wasn’t that a symbol of someone with a rich qi1?
When Mother Ji thought this far, she became more and more satisfied with her daughter-in-law. She looked at her third son and warned, “You have to be good to Danhong. If you follow those men outside who pick up flowers while trampling the grass, then Mother will not forgive you, do you hear me?”
“Mother, how do you even come up with these things? How can I treat my wife badly?” Ji Jianyun replied exasperatedly.
“Mother is just warning you, that’s all. Danhong was not this good before, but wasn't she still young back then? You were never home, and she looked down on everything while her heart was naturally pining for you. Now that she has grown, she understands things better. Just take a look at what mother thinks is good for you,” Mother Ji explained with a smile.
Ji Jianyun chuckled and said, “Mother, you're busy. I'm going to pick up Danhong.”
“Okay, if you go, wait for Danhong at the foot of the mountain. Don’t go up there, okay?” Mother Ji did not forget to make herself clear once more.
Ji Jianyun nodded in response.
When Su Danhong came down the mountain, she immediately spotted him. She raised her eyebrows and asked with a smile, “Jianyun, what are you doing here?”
“Picking you up.” Ji Jianyun took her water can which was completely empty and carried it for her.
Su Danhong let him support her as they walked. She glanced at his face frequently. He didn’t seem to notice the extremely strange spiritual spring on her body. She didn't know how to bring up the matter, and if she did, would Jianyun think that she was a monster?
That’s why she did not plan on saying anything. Since the villagers said that she was possessed by a Great Fox Immortal, then she’ll just let them think whatever they wanted to.
“Honey, can our saplings really grow?” Ji Jianyun asked with a grin.
He didn't believe his mother’s theory at all. What Great Fox Immortal? In his eyes, his wife was just bored and she came out for a stroll. Even he was in a sunny mood when he looked at the mountain peak.
“It can.” Su Danhong looked at him and returned the smile.
Ji Jianyun said nothing more. He just nodded and helped her back.
For most of that month, the saplings Lao Qin sent one after another were planted. Ji Jianyun still couldn’t do a lot of work, but now that his leg was almost recovered he could act as a supervisor.
When this batch of fruit saplings were delivered by Lao Qin, almost every other person in the village got in touch with Lao Qin.
It was obvious that this was happening because they saw the orchard growing nicely and wanted to do the same.
However, this has nothing to do with Ji Jianyun. Ji Jianyun only knew that his family was the only one that could get this orchard set up.
When the couple returned home, Ji Jianyun went to the kitchen. They were going to have dumplings for dinner. Ji Jianyun had wrapped them at noon. Each dumpling had thin skin and was stuffed full.
Soon, the dumplings would be ready.
Now that Su Danhong gained a big appetite, she ate 13 big dumplings before she finally stopped.
Ji Jianyun tried to persuade her to eat more. “Why did you only eat that much? Have some more.”
Su Danhong was persuaded by him to eat two more, but after that she was stuffed. The rest went to Ji Jianyun, who had the appetite of a king.
“Jianyun, have you figured out how to deal with the villagers?” Su Danhong asked. She watched him eat since she was already full.
“Deal with what?” Ji Jianyun replied. He didn’t know the reason for her question.
Su Danhong blinked. Her eyes held a sly look. “Is this village a good place to grow fruit trees?”
Ji Jianyun shook his head and said, “It’s not suitable.”
Although this area did not have any water shortages, all the trees from before were cut down and the land was even stripped away. Some parts of the soil began to change into sand. How could they grow trees when the mountain did not even have grass?
“But our orchard was set up and is growing nicely. Don’t you think that they will come for you if they buy some land, and lose money by planting saplings that won’t grow?” Su Danhong wondered.
She's been questioned several times by the villagers who wanted to know how she did it.
When she laid it out plainly, Ji Jianyun finally understood what she meant. He frowned and asked, “What do you want me to do about this?” He didn’t have any secret methods.
But once he said it out loud, he also remembered what his mother had said in the evening. He looked at his wife and said, “Honey, tell me, how can our fruit trees grow so well?”
“How would I know? People outside say that I am a lucky woman. Jianyun, do you think I have the aura of a landlady?” Su Danhong sat with her chin slightly raised and looked at him.
Ji Jianyun looked at her acting like this and smiled. “Yes!”
“That's fine. If they ask you what the secret is, then you can say you don't know either. You have just come from the army so what can you know?” Su Danhong said lightly.
“All right, I’ll do as you say,” Jianyun said.
There was also a thought in Su Danhong's mind that when the families in the village could no longer handle taking care of the trees, she would contract all their land and buy them as a personal favor, so that the villagers would not lose money.
But this orchard must be the first of its kind owned by her family, or else she wouldn’t be able to buy the others when the time comes.
However, there was no need to tell her Jianyun these thoughts right now, and it would not be too late to mention it later.
Su Danhong's explanation was timely, and within a few days, the villagers invited Ji Jianyun to a meal.
Ji Jianyun was well aware that this would happen. In return for the invitation, he brought a large plate of meat with him, so that he would not be freeloading at someone else’s home.
Ji Jianyun was asked about the orchard during dinner.
“Oh, I don’t really know about this. You guys know that I have just come back from the military, and I was injured in order to complete a mission assigned by my leader, so I can no longer do that job. I just go up the mountain and walk around every day. So if you’re asking me for secrets, then I don’t really know what to tell you,” Ji Jianyun articulated.
He was telling the truth, but the people there did not believe it.
The eldest uncle of the entire Ji family said, “Jianyun, our country is advocating the people who get rich first to drive others to get rich. We have to respond to this call, don't we?”
