Chapter 12: Young examinees

Chapter 12: Young examinees

Breeder Headquarters, Building 1, 2nd Floor, Room 203 –

It was the location of Terrance and the others’ exam.

Terrance and others had spent a night resting at the hotel and were feeling quite refreshed.

Moreover, they had a lavish meal that Master Victor had pre-booked, and Terrance considered himself lucky to have this opportunity. It was the first time since he set out that he had such delicious food.

The exam was scheduled for 8 o’clock in the morning, and there was still half an hour left, but people had already started to arrive one after another.

Most of the people coming for the Junior Breeder exam were teenagers, but it wasn’t an absolute rule. If you walk past a few more rooms, you might even see some older individuals who had come for the exam.

It’s not that their comprehension is poor.; it was just that they had started learning the relevant knowledge at different times.

Terrance has a significant advantage, possessing mature thinking, and he had been exposed to Breeder’s knowledge since he was young, giving him a head start.

However, grasping all the tedious and intricate knowledge with the thinking and comprehension abilities of a child was really difficult.

That was also why adults were generally better at comprehending things than children.

Terrance’s situation was hard to replicate. Even June, who has a good family background and was taught by a famous master, was participating in the exam at the same age as Terrance.

“203 -“

Terrance and Little June looked up at the door number and walked in with their examination information.

Only the examinees were allowed to enter here, so after Master Victor dropped off Terrance and June downstairs, he went back alone to wait. He was confident that Terrance and June would successfully pass the exam, but what he was looking forward to was how they would rank among the other examinees.

At this moment, there were already quite a few people sitting in the classroom, probably around ten, and after calmly scanning the room, Terrance and June found their seats and sat down.

As time passed, more and more examinees entered the room. By the final ten minutes before the exam, almost every seat had been occupied.

At the podium stood a woman who appeared to be in her early twenties, writing the exam time “8:00~9:30” on the blackboard. She was the invigilator for this exam.

“I am Bell Joy, your exam invigilator.”

Terrance was somewhat surprised. He hadn’t expected a Joy to be the invigilator, as she was from the same family as Little June. However, the Joy family was widespread, so there might not necessarily be any connection between them.

Using the last ten minutes, Bell Joy quieted down the classroom and explained the exam rules in detail.

The rules were quite common, and most people who came for the exam understood them to some extent.

Moreover, because it was the exam for Junior Breeder, the difficulty and process were quite simple.

Currently, it is the first part of the exam, the written test.

As soon as the exam time arrived, the exam papers were handed out. When Terrance picked up his paper and glanced at it, he immediately felt it was too easy. These things wouldn’t pose a challenge for him.

The test paper consisted of three pages with a total of three major sections: multiple-choice, fill in the blanks, and argumentative essay.

The total score for the exam paper was 100 points, with the multiple-choice section worth 30 points (10 questions), fill in the blanks section also worth 30 points (10 questions), and the argumentative essay section consisting of only two questions, each worth 20 points.

For the first part of the exam, as long as you scored 60 points, you would be able to proceed to the next part. Those who didn’t reach 60 points would be considered to have failed the exam.

“It’s just the basics.”

After carefully skimming over the exam paper, Terrance began answering the questions.

For example, the first question was about the Pokémon Poochyena.

The question assessed the nature of Poochyena, and it could be considered an easy question. There were four options for the multiple-choice question: A) Stubborn, B) Aggressive, C) Sharp, and D) Timid.

Without hesitation, Terrance quickly chose option A.

All four options made some sense, but the most suitable one was option A.

Poochyena, this Pokémon, often showed its fierce fangs to intimidate others, but at the same time, it would tuck its tail and run away when faced with retaliation. Also, they have a very keen sense of smell. If you don’t have a deep understanding, examinees are likely to get confused as early as the first question.

In fact, the most prominent trait of Poochyena is its stubbornness.

They would immediately bite anything that moved and would continue the chase until their prey was exhausted. They would persistently pursue fleeing opponents. Once they targeted a prey, they would chase it until it was exhausted.

Compared to other traits, this particular aspect stands out significantly. To answer the first question correctly, one must not only have a comprehensive understanding of Poochyena but also be able to distinguish the primary and secondary aspects of their temperament and traits.

The second question [with an illustration]: What is Gyarados’ secondary type?

A) Water, B) Dragon, C) Dark, D) Flying

….

….

Terrance swiftly answered the multiple-choice questions without any pause.

Meanwhile, Bell Joy, who was responsible for supervising the exam, surveyed the surroundings. After seeing Terrance and June’s information, she was also greatly surprised. Ten-year-old examinees, and it seemed that one of them was from the same family as her. It was truly remarkable.

So, she decided to pay more attention to these two young examinees’ results after the exam.

Meanwhile, Terrance immediately shifted his focus to the fill in the blanks questions. If the multiple-choice questions could be guessed correctly, the fill in the blanks questions would put one’s knowledge base to the test.

The first question: Beldum primarily relies on (——) to control its movements.

At first glance, this might be considered a very simple question. Some might feel lucky and confidently write down “Take Down” or “Psychic Power.” However, generally, such surface-level answers tend to be incomplete or incorrect.

Beldum’s body is magnetized, and it uses magnetic force to move, communicate, and control its attacks. It is said to have a connection with Magnemite, but Beldum’s magnetic force primarily focuses on Psychic-type moves rather than Steel-type moves. In battle, Beldum’s capabilities are quite limited, as it can only use Take Down when not taught any other moves.

Perhaps some have seen the rare Beldum and observed their fighting style closely, then it is not difficult to notice that they only use the move “Take Down.” So naturally, some might confidently fill in “Take Down” for this question.

Another approach would be to consider Beldum’s types, Steel and Psychic. Steel-type is difficult to explain, but Psychic, on the other hand, is naturally associated with the basic means of controlling their own movements.

Therefore, very few people can answer “magnetic force” correctly. These questions are designed to weed out examinees who are trying to take advantage of uncertainty.

After writing the word “magnetic force,” Terrance continued with the questions.

One, two, three… Terrance’s accumulated knowledge from his daily efforts effortlessly manifested during the exam. He answered swiftly and with ease.
