Chapter 24: Spartan
Chapter 24: Spartan
Rebecca found a lot of metal bars that once were used in gyms, they were a bit heavy, but they also would grant a shit ton of durability and defense once they level up.
They were good enough to offer three points of attack and defense each, and since Terry used two of them while his hard gloves were equipped, he didn't have a hard time leveling them up. When night came, Terry had made thirty of them reach level five, but he had to stop and get the magic stones.
When Terry left, he found Rebecca giving some orders for a man and a woman. She was ready to leave since the sun had set, and she couldn't leave her siblings alone. If the job was just to keep watching the entrance of the dungeon, anyone could do it, as long as they didn't belong to other guilds.
"Perfect timing," Rebecca said. "I am returning. What about you?"
"I will stay here. Did you buy more metal poles?" Terry asked.
Rebecca pointed to a box nearby. In the end, she took those Terry had already leveled up back home, and Terry took the others back to the dungeon. It was a bit dangerous to fight at night in the middle of a dense forest, but Terry could easily repel the giants' attacks now and then smash their heads with a single strike.
In any case, Terry waited for a while until some officers of the government showed up to buy the magic stones he got in the last few days. They just counted them, and Terry earned more than 105k... he was already thinking about what he wanted to buy. Still, he had to keep some to buy the magic stones of the other hunters... he just had to be patient because more money would roll in now...
When morning came, Terry took a quick nap outside the dungeon, and when he woke up, he found Rebecca and twenty people ready to follow them. This time, Rebecca was going as well, and the guards of the night had been changed by the guards of the day, and they were going to accept the enlistment of people over fifteen as well. Terry also saw a large group of hunters from the other guilds ready to enter the dungeon...
"With those numbers, I should be fine, money-wise..." Terry nodded to himself.
"Everyone is ready to go," Rebecca declared. "Also, I heard that against bigger groups, the giants can appear up to ten members per party. It should be fine, right?"
"Yeah, it should," Terry replied. "Still, we will split them into groups of ten just in case. We will offer our support, but the goal here is also to check those who have the guts to fight."
Terry didn't tell them that the metal poles had been Enhanced. He was planning to explain that later to those who end up joining, at least a bit of his power. Telling something like Terry's mana enhances the weapons for a while should be enough...
The group crossed the portal, and Terry watched them. They were tense but not afraid. That was a good sign. After splitting the groups, Terry made the first group step forward. It didn't take long for them to hear the sound of giants approaching.
"No one is going to die here, but we need to see you guys in action," Terry said. "Rebecca... only attack the enemies that are almost there from hitting them."
"That is... quite Spartan," Rebecca frowned. "At least give them a demonstration."
Terry didn't want that since it would be too easy for the others to feel confident after seeing the weapons in action. In the end, Terry grabbed one and then prepared to fight the enemies... when the first approached and tried to kick him, Terry blocked the attack. The attack pushed him a few centimeters away, but only that. After that, Terry swung the weapon at the knee of one of the giants and made the creature grunt in pain.
The wound of the knee quickly turned blue and then purple, making everyone understand that a single hit had been enough to break the bones. After that, Terry picked his bow, and then the others charged at the giants. Some of them focused on blocking, and some on dodging. The results varied quite a bit, but at least they stopped the enemies' advance.
Since some of them didn't have experience fighting in a jungle, they tripped after stepping back. At that moment, Terry and Rebecca put some ice arrows on the target's skull that approached them. The same thing happened a few times until the new group realized that Terry and Rebecca truly were watching their back.
After that, the group displayed more courage to fight the enemies. No one wanted to look pathetic while missing a good opportunity in life after all.
Eventually, they began to fight better, they also began to defend against the attacks instead of just running away, and that gave more chances for the others to attack the enemies. Things were progressing really well...
Soon, the battle was over, and Terry gave the knives to the recruits to take the magic stones. That job was bloody, but they had to get used to it. The second group did a bit l better when it came to fighting since they knew how strong the metal poles were...
"It seems that things are going well," Rebecca approached Terry and said.
"This is just the start, so don't get too comfortable with the current situation," Terry said.
Terry was planning to do some hunting by himself and destroy a lot of the enemy's camps in the afternoon. After all, the red giants granted him a shit ton of experience. Still, he worked diligently helping the recruits, and from that group, no one looked suspicious, so they entered the guild.
