Chapter 20: The Lucky Draw
Chapter 20: The Lucky Draw
In a way, I felt grateful to Lisa and her friends.
They had taught me essential lessons about how this world worked, which would shape how I dealt with people in the future. In a sense, they had pushed me out of the cozy hotel, firmly nudging me toward the reality of this new existence.
"To survive here, I need to take action," I realized, my determination rising with each passing moment.
But there was a problem. I was a Level 1 newbie with zero combat experience.
My Title <Visionary> allowed me to stay calm and level-headed, except when under extreme stress, so I could probably manage if I encountered a Demon and decided to stay composed.
The real challenge was defeating one and leveling up, a prospect that seemed daunting at the moment.
'My skills aren't suited for combat. I need to get stronger quickly,' I muttered to myself, a bead of sweat forming on my brow as I contemplated the unknown dangers ahead.
The best idea I had was to get an Item from the <Shop>.
However, I was trying to save money, so I had to find a cost-effective way to get Items that would increase my chances of survival.
'I bet most of these 'useful' Items will end up as junk after the Tutorial.
I can't waste my Currency on things like that,' I reasoned.
My goal was to find Items that wouldn't drain my wallet and would still last until the Tutorial ended, a strategy that would require careful consideration.
"Haaa... in the end, I arrived here," I said, a wry smile on my face as I looked at the System Panel in front of me.
[Shop]
~Welcome to <Lucky Draw>!~
{Welcome to <Lucky Draw>! Use only 1C for a chance to get a powerful item right from the start. The odds are high, but the rewards are certain!}
I almost laughed when I read the Lucky Draw's description.
'Rewards are certain? Who are they fooling? The odds are one in a million. It's nearly impossible to win,' I muttered, shaking my head at the audacity of the offer.
I wasn't hoping for a legendary item that would transform my fate and make me super strong.
That was just too unrealistic, and I didn't want to set myself up for disappointment. Instead, I aimed for something more practical.
'I just want something to help me survive here, even if it only lasts until the Tutorial ends. As long as it helps me beat Demons, I'm in!' I declared, feeling a surge of determination as I reached for the Shop interface,
"Here goes nothing! Please don't let me down!"

[Several Moments Later]
"This... I can't believe it..." My eyes widened, almost bloodshot.
After more than thirty attempts, I finally got my first item from the Lucky Draw.
I had to admit, it was nothing like I had expected.
The Item was...
"... A Rock? For real?!"
I was dumbfounded, utterly bewildered.
"This feels like a total rip-off!" I stopped myself from shouting in frustration, keeping my composure.
"I mean, the odds are one in a million. What was I really expecting? Maybe I was a bit too optimistic.
However, I couldn't give up now, not after coming this far. After all, I still had 467 Currency left.
It wasn't a small amount.
"Just 17C more. After that, I'll quit. There's got to be something good waiting for me. Please give me something good!" I pleaded desperately, hoping I somehow got lucky.
Pouring all my heart and soul into it, I once again began gambling.
*******
[Several Moments Later]
"Ha... ha..." Sweat dripped from my brow as I focused intently on the screen before me.
"How did it get to his point?"
<Total Currency in User's possession: 400 C >
I had just blown away 100 Currency on Lucky Draw
'Shit... what am I even doing?!'
If I had scored a legendary item or an ultra-rare skill from this gamble, I might have considered it a worthwhile expense.
But all I had to show for my efforts was a single rock.
"Just a rock." I stared at the round object cradled in my palm.
As I gazed at it, a System Window suddenly appeared before me.
[Item Information]
Name: Rock
Special Effect: Always Returns to User.
Combat Ability: +1
Durability: Infinite
[End Of Information]
So, this item wasn't all that special, except for one thing - it always came back to me.
However, it did boost my combat ability by a mere single point, and...
"Wait a minute... the durability..."
I squinted at the description, and it read 'Infinite.'
"Could this rock be more useful than I thought?"
I couldn't let myself get too hopeful, though.
While its durability was impressive, its overall impact on my current situation was minimal.
"I'm in a tight spot at this point. I'd like to get something more, but I've already hit my budget limit. Call me a cheapskate, but I don't want my currency to drop below 400. If it does, I'll never be able to keep myself from trying my luck with the Lucky Draw."
"I guess I have no choice but to rely on this rock to survive."
To make it work, I had to maximize its advantages. It might not be some super-legendary weapon, but it was all I had.
The rock had unlimited durability, meaning I could use it indefinitely. It also always returned to me, kind of like Thor's hammer. Plus, it could inflict a tiny, but still tangible amount of damage.
Considering all this, I came up with a makeshift plan.
"The best thing I can do is... throw it at my enemies?"
Being realistic, I had zero combat experience and no knowledge of martial arts. So close combat was definitely out of the question.
"Throwing a rock from a distance... that's my best shot. If I keep doing it, I should be able to take down a Demon."
In a world where everything was measured by stats, even a small, persistent effort could bring down a Demon eventually.
"I can't keep making excuses." Swallowing my fear, I stood up and stared at the drugstore's entrance/exit.
Honestly, I was still terrified of what awaited me outside my sanctuary.
But this was a do-or-die moment. If I didn't act now, I'd regret it forever.
"To survive in this nightmare... I have to get stronger!"
