Necron: The Legend Of Rezar DeathWind

Chapter 329: Interitus And Cleobis (IX): End Of Rot And Decay 1

Chapter 329: Interitus And Cleobis (IX): End Of Rot And Decay 1

There was apprehension all over the face of Cleobis, but who could blame her, but perhaps what she was showing wasn't exactly apprehension but rather hesitation. How could she move forward with her attack when it seems she was dealing with the devil himself. There was already and urban legend going around that Rezar was pretty much un-killable, but for death class where that could be nothing's more than a rumor, because there was nothing in this world they can't kill. But then here was Rezar Deathwind, a man that with second that passed was beginning to look more and more unkillable.

She turned around to run, just to take advantage of the fact Rezar was actually being accommodating at the moment. But be that as it may Rezar had no intention of letting her live, telling her that she might have a chance if she ran away was a cruel game being played on his part. But the truth of the matter was that she would be unable to escape from him, there was no mercy to be shown today, and that was the order of Death itself, and for once Rezar didn't feel anything about it.

Unlike the person he was when his journey started Rezar now no longer felt any aversion to killing his enemies. He was ruthless, merciless, but only when it is required. And he would do all of these things without losing an ounce of sleep. It would make one wonder if he had also lost his compassion or conscience, but that was not the case. The endless killing has driven Rezar up until the point where he was able to quantify the value of person's life depending on said person's value to himself and the amount of danger that person could possibly portray in his life.

Vita Gratia rang out, her chains humming in symphonic harmony as she surged forwards and stabbed straight into Cleobis's back. She let out a scream that was closer to a wail. She didn't die immediately as she fell to the ground staring at the blades sticking out of her chest. She let out a startled cry as she started sobbing, she got on her knees and turned to face Rezar, her face a mask of tears and snot as she placed both of her hands together.

"Please! I beg you please! I don't want to die! I don't want to die please! I have a daughter, the both of us; Interitus and me, we have our little baby and she's just two years old. If you kill me she'll be all alone, I beg you please don't kill me." She pleaded while Screet looked on Impassively and unshaken. Quentin turned his head to the side unable to see what came next, because he knew without a doubt, there was just no way she could be spared, if he could Rezar would let her live. But maybe he could. Quentin opened his eyes wide and called out to Rezar.

"Master wait!" Rezar paused and turned to face the Doom Knight with his eyebrow raised in question, Vita Gratia hummed impatiently in his hands, she wanted desperately to suck and drain the soul and essence of this woman, of this Cleobis that they have defeated and brought to her feet.

"Forgive me Master and I do not mean to overstep my bounds, but I think or rather I believe that the goddess of death just wants you to be a puppet of her own making. She calls herself your mother, and she uses that knowledge to bend and drive you to her will. But Master would you rather be the kind that is swayed and driven by superstition and the power of gods who have done nothing for you but take and take much more than you can give, and use you for her own gains. Or would you rather be the king you have made the whole world believe that you are."

"And pray tell Quentin, what sort of king is that?" Screet asked with a bored look on his face, to which Quentin turned and faced him with a look of righteousness on his face.

"The King that is ruthless, fierce, undefeatable, rides with the dead and above all. A king of principles and one that was not without mercy. the King of Morte Bianca, not the king of Darkness the goddess of death." Rezar blanched for a few seconds and fell into thought about what Quentin had just said.

He had to think back to all of his actions so far, to the things the goddess of death had said to him or even told him to do. She said that the death class users were tainted, and that they had to be wiped out to make way for a new generation. And talking on the aspect of control, that would explain her aim just Like Quentin had unwittingly hinted at. There was no way for the goddess of death to fully control and subjugate any of the death class users that were alive and had come into their own power, especially now when there seems to be a resurgence of death class users and they were respected just as much as they were feared, courtesy of everything Rezar has been doing so far.

A new generation could be molded in the image and direction she wanted, and sure as hell Rezar would lead them as he was the son of death after all. The perfect face, the one with the perfect position and power to propagate the intentions and aims of the goddess of death darkness. And even though she was believed to be death itself, this reveal now left him with more questions than answers. Is death the kind of thing that can have a consciousness, even in Elysium it could have a goddess, but that's just an immensely powerful being with control over the domain, not that she was death itself.

He has been playing to her tune this entire time and it really didn't make sense that he would just go about killing people wantonly because the goddess of death asked him too. He had fought as hard as he could up until this point because he wanted to be in control of his life, and right now here he was being a slave to some divine being that he had to bow down to due to some misconception that she was his mother.

"What the fuck have I been doing all this while?" Rezar asked as he looked up with a pained look in his eyes, up until now he wasn't as free as he thought he was. He was still a slave. a slave to darkness.
