Chapter 369: Building Barricades



Long Yu walked into the small room inside the watchtower and said, "Captain Li, Captain Wu, a large group of mutant desert beetles is approaching."

As his words fell, Li Tianyu and Wu Lian looked at him simultaneously.

"What did you say? A large group of mutant desert beetles is approaching?" Wu Lian asked, disbelief can be heard from his voice.

Long Yu nodded and explained, "About ten minutes ago, we spotted a swarm of mutant desert beetles coming out from the sand. They are now advancing toward the wall. Ran Ran and the others are constructing a firewall to keep them out, but we need a plan to eliminate them before they get too close."

After listening to his explanation, Li Tianyu ruffled his short hair in frustration.

He slammed his fist on the table and cursed, "Damn it! We haven't even finished dealing with the mutant giant birds, and now mutant desert beetles are coming."

He took a deep breath to calm down, frowned, and said, "Our base is near the mountains. Where did these desert beetles even come from? This world is insane! How are we supposed to survive like this?"

Wu Lian frowned when he heard what Li Tianyu said but remained silent.

Seeing their grim expressions, Long Yu said, "These mutant desert beetles were likely brought here by the sandstorm."

He turned to look at Li Tianyu and added, "You can question how crazy this world is later. Right now, let's focus on surviving this first."

Wu Lian nodded in agreement. "Captain Long is right."

Just as they were contemplating how to deal with the approaching threat, Wu Lian's satellite phone rang. Glancing at the screen, he answered the call.

"This is Wu Lian speaking."

A moment later, Xu Qipeng's voice came through. "Captain Wu, what is the situation at your place?"

Wu Lian exchanged glances with Long Yu and Li Tianyu before responding, "We have managed to kill more than half of the mutant giant birds and secure the wall. But Captain Long just brought more bad news. A large swarm of mutant desert beetles is advancing as we speak."

"Miss Yao and the others are setting up a firewall to block the mutant desert beetles, but we need a strategy to exterminate them at once before they reach the wall. If these mutant desert beetles breach the base, the consequences will be catastrophic."

Xu Qipeng fell silent for a moment before asking, "Do you have a plan to deal with these mutant desert beetles?"

"For now, I'm considering using fire to burn them," Wu Lian replied.

Xu Qipeng thought for a moment, then said, "We are out of gasoline, but we still have some ethanol. I will send it to your location. It was highly flammable, so use it carefully."

Wu Lian's eyes lit up at this good news. He then said, "Understood, Commander."

Just as he finished speaking, the sound of a door opening, followed by another voice, came through the satellite phone.

"Commander! A lot of mutant desert beetles suddenly came out from the soil! They have taken over the entire slum area and are now making their way to underground shelters."

Wu Lian's expression darkened as he overheard the report.

A moment later, Xu Qipeng's urgent voice followed, "Sound the alarm and accelerate the evacuation! Deploy soldiers to protect the survivors immediately! Hurry up!"

"Yes, Commander!"

After issuing the orders, Xu Qipeng hastily said, "Captain Wu, update me if there is any news."

Without waiting for Wu Lian's response, Xu Qipeng ended the call. Wu Lian put the satellite phone away and turned to Long Yu and Li Tianyu.

Clenching his fists, he said, "The mutant desert beetles have infiltrated the base. They came out from the soil and took over the entire slum area. Commander Xu has deployed soldiers to protect the survivors while speeding up the evacuation."

Listening to this bad news, Li Tianyu cursed under his breath while Long Yu's expression darkened.

After a brief silence, Long Yu said, "I'm going to help Ran Ran. You two-do whatever you can."

Leaving those words behind, Long Yu left in a hurry.

"Alright."

After dividing the areas, the two rushed toward their respective destinations.

Meanwhile, Yao Ran and the others finally completed the barricades. When the last barricade was doused with gasoline, the wind element ability user controlled the wind and jumped back to the top of the wall.

As he landed lightly on top of the wall, Yao Ran narrowed her eyes and looked into the

distance.

After a moment of silence, she said in frustration, "It's almost impossible to see clearly with this sandstorm blocking our vision."

One of the soldiers nearby heard her words and said, "Our captain has the ability to enhance

his five senses. He should be able to see far, even in these conditions."

Hearing this, Yao Ran's eyes lit up. She turned to the soldier and asked, "Who is your

captain?"

"Captain Li Zhen," the soldier replied.

When Yao Ran heard the familiar name, she muttered, "Isn't he one of Long Yu's comrades from the special forces?"

The soldier looked surprised when he heard her words and asked, "Miss, you know Captain

Long?"

Yao Ran nodded. "A Yu is my fiancé."

The soldier was stunned for a moment but then smiled brightly. "So you are our Sister-in-

law! I'm sorry I didn't recognize you earlier."

Yao Ran shook her head and said, "It's fine. Where is Li Zhen?"
