Chapter 277: Do You Know Them?
Chapter 277: Do You Know Them?
Looking at the worried expressions of others, Long Yu calmly explained his plan, "I have considered that. I will scout the area first. If it's safe, I will return, and we can all move together."
After he said that, Shi Xuan frowned, "Captain, it's too dangerous for you to go alone."
Yao Ran looked at him and said, "I will go with A Yu. A smaller team makes it easier to sneak in and assess the situation. If the mutant rats have taken over, we can retreat without being detected."
Though it seemed risky for just the two of them to infiltrate an area possibly infested with mutant rats, Yao Ran had her secret spatial ability. If things went wrong, she and Long Yu could hide in her space, but bringing another person would complicate that plan.
After some thought, Shi Xuan agreed, "Alright."
With their plans decided, Huang Qian asked, "Captain, when will you leave?"
Long Yu thought for a moment and replied, "In a few days, when the air is less toxic. We will leave at night since the daytime temperature is still too high."
Now that they had settled on their next steps, everyone began packing supplies. Two days later, after sunset, Yao Ran and Long Yu left Shan Wu Resort in the SUV.
Just as they approached the main entrance of Shan Wu Resort, Yao Ran suddenly said, "A Yu, stop the car."
Long Yu stepped on the brakes and asked, "What's wrong?"
Yao Ran pointed to the small office building near the entrance, "Look at that. I remember there wasn't a water tanker there when we came here."
Long Yu followed her gaze and frowned slightly when he saw the water tanker.
After observing it for a moment, he said, "Judging by the degree of rust, it seems this water tanker arrived after the acid rain."
Yao Ran turned to him and asked, "Should we check it out?"
Long Yu thought for a moment before nodding, "Alright."
He then drove the SUV closer to the small office building. Long Yu parked the car at a distance for safety and to guard against sudden attack.
After stepping out of the car, they drew their guns and cautiously approached the water tanker. Exchanging glances, they silently split up, moving in opposite directions to surround the vehicle.
With guns aimed ahead, they vigilantly moved toward the water tanker. Seeing no one inside, Long Yu signaled with a hand gesture, and Yao Ran nodded.
While Yao Ran stayed outside to guard, Long Yu entered the building. The single-story structure allowed him to survey the interior at a glance.
Inside, Long Yu saw two men leaning motionlessly against the wall. They looked emaciated and filthy. From their chapped lips, sunken cheeks, and yellowed skin, Long Yu could tell they were severely malnourished and probably hadn't eaten anything for a few days.
Approaching cautiously, Long Yu nudged one man's leg with his boot. When there was no response, he lowered his gun and took a closer look. As he examined their faces, he froze in shock.
Recovering quickly, he reached out to check their breathing. Feeling faint signs of life, he turned toward the door and called out, "Ran Ran, come quickly!"
Alarmed by the urgency in his voice, Yao Ran rushed into the building.
"A Yu, what's wrong?" she asked anxiously.
Long Yu gestured to the two men and replied, "Quick, come and see if you can save them."
Yao Ran didn't recognize the two unconscious men due to their dirt-covered faces and thin bodies, but she followed Long Yu's instructions and quickly checked their condition. Two minutes later, she retrieved two cups of lake water from her space and handed one to Long Yu.
Pointing to one of the men, she said, "Feed this to him."
After saying that, she then began feeding the other man. Despite their unconscious state, survival instincts kicked in as both men swallowed the water.
Within minutes, they had each finished a cup. Yao Ran and Long Yu watched intently as some color returned to their faces. Yao Ran then checked their pulse and frowned.
"How are they?" Long Yu asked after she retracted her hand.
Yao Ran looked at the two men, frowning, and hesitated for a moment before saying, "Their condition had stabilized after drinking the lake water, so they are out of danger for now. But staying here during the acid rain severely damaged their internal organs. I can save their lives, but they may never fully recover from this."
Long Yu sighed after listening to her explanation. He looked at the two men and said, "It's good that they can survive. They are really lucky."
Noticing the concern in his eyes, Yao Ran asked curiously, "A Yu, do you know them?"
Long Yu raised an eyebrow and asked, "Ran Ran, you don't recognize them?"
Yao Ran slightly tilted her head and asked in confusion, "Should I know them?"
"...." Long Yu was speechless for a moment before saying, "These two are Ling Yi and Yuan Rihui."
Surprised, Yao Ran turned to study the two men more closely. Doubt clouded her expression before she coughed lightly and said, "Well, it's been a while since we've seen them. I guess I forgot what they looked like."
"...." Long Yu didn't believe her excuse but chose not to comment on it and change the topic to save his girlfriend from embarrassment.
"We can't leave them here," Long Yu said after a moment. "Should we take them back to the villa?"
Yao Ran shook her head and explained, "Even though they are out of danger for now, they will need intensive care. They also need to drink at least a glass of lake water every day to repair their internal organs. Otherwise, they can only live for three months at most."n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om
"What should we do then?" Long Yu asked.
Yao Ran thought for a moment and said, "Let's take them with us. I can treat their external wounds and have them drink lake water to heal internally."
