Chapter 254: Do You Want Me To Kill You?
Chapter 254: Do You Want Me To Kill You?
Seeing Yao Ran raise her gun again, the bald man panicked and hurriedly said, "My elder brother is a minister in the central government! If you dare touch me, he will-!"
Bang!
Thud.
Yao Ran calmly looked at the bald man, who died with his eyes wide open and blood pooling on the ground.
The other four men witnessed the scene and were horrified as they felt chills down their spines. Despite the pain in their thighs, no one dared to make a sound.
After dealing with the bald man, Yao Ran turned her gaze toward the remaining four men. When they saw the way she looked at them, as if they were already dead, cold sweat covered their foreheads.
Noticing the fear in their eyes, Yao Ran asked, "Why would you try to steal from us when you clearly know our strength?"
One of the men, who looked like he was in his late thirties, clenched his hands and replied hoarsely, "My family will die if I don't find water today. I searched the city but couldn't find even a drop of water. The bald man said you had a lot of water and said he would share it with me if I helped him drive the truck."
Yao Ran thoughtfully looked at him for a few seconds before turning to the others and asked, "What about you guys?"
Resigned to their fate, they felt a strange sense of relief. The men pressed on the wounds to slow the blood loss as they lay on the ground, ready to die.
After a moment of silence, the youngest of them replied, "My family died in the flood. Now, I only have a younger sister. She is just six years old this year. I can't let her starve to death, even at the cost of my life."
Seeing he was not older than her, Yao Ran asked, "How old are you?"
"Nineteen in a few months." He replied.
Yao Ran fell silent after listening to his answer. In her previous life, she was just an ordinary college student when the world ended. Unfortunately, the world was cruel, and she was forced to do anything to survive.
Recalling her past experiences, Yao Ran lowered her gun and said, "You guys can go."
The four men were stunned, momentarily forgetting the pain in their thighs. After a few seconds of silence, the youngest man asked, "Are you... really letting us go?"
Yao Ran raised an eyebrow and asked, "Do you want me to kill you?"
The young man shook his head quickly and said, "No, no, no! We will leave right away."
Watching them struggle to leave as their blood left a trail behind, she added, "Take your boss with you."
Hearing what she said, they reluctantly dragged the bald man's corpse with them as they left.
After they left, Yao Ran then turned to Deng Qiqi and said, "Qiqi, let's hurry up and load the supplies."
Deng Qiqi nodded and approached her with the bag of flour. As she watched Yao Ran unlock the truck's compartment, she asked, "Elder Sister Yao Ran, why didn't you kill those men?" Yao Ran looked at her and calmly said, "Sometimes, people are forced to commit crimes or kill people just to survive or protect their loved ones. Although I didn't kill them, I injured their thighs. Even if they make it out alive from here, their survival is uncertain."
"I punished them for trying to steal from us, and I think that is enough. As for the bald man, he had malicious intentions toward us. Killing him was a way to protect ourselves."
Yao Ran paused for a second and added, "I don't mind killing people and staining my hands with blood, but I won't let myself be blinded by power. Power can protect you, but it can also destroy you if your heart is led astray."
After listening to Yao Ran's explanation, Deng Qiqi smiled and said, "Elder Sister Yao Ran, I knew you weren't as cold as you seem."
Yao Ran was taken aback when she heard Deng Qiqi's words. She smiled as she looked at Deng Qiqi and said, "Maybe you are right."
While they were loading supplies, Huang Zhihui returned with more supplies, followed by Sima Hao and his wife.n/o/vel/b//in dot c//om
Seeing them approach, Yao Ran went to open another truck's compartment and said, "Brother Sima, Sister-in-law, you guys can put your things in here."
Sima Hao was grateful and said, "Thank you, Miss Yao."
Yao Ran handed him the truck key and urged, "Let's load everything before A Yu and the others return."
"Alright."
With that, Sima Hao and his wife moved quickly, bringing down more supplies.
While they were busy loading supplies into the trucks and bus, Long Yu and the others finally arrived near the city center. Along the way, they checked every vehicle, trying to find any that could still be used.
After hours of searching and working, Shi Xuan finally managed to repair two trucks and an SUV, which was covered in mud.
When he finished, he looked at Long Yu and said, "Captain, the trucks are ready to use, but the SUV's tank is empty. We need to find gasoline and fill the tank first."
Long Yu thought for a moment and replied, "You guys clean up the trucks and the SUV. I will go with A Qian to find gasoline."
"Yes, Captain."
Long Yu and Huang Qian then set off to find a container to store the gasoline. Long Yu had brought an oil pump, so once they found a container, they could begin collecting fuel.
While they worked, time flew by. By the time they finally managed to start the trucks and the SUV, it was already past midnight.
Wiping the sweat from his face with his shirt, Long Yu said, "Let's head to the supermarket." Driving the two trucks and the SUV, the six of them finally arrived at the supermarket an hour later.
