Chapter 248: Collecting Gasoline (2)
Chapter 248: Collecting Gasoline (2)
Long Yu observed the dusty ground, noticing that the area hadn't yet been looted. He stopped in front of a notice board and examined the map on it. After being submerged in water and frozen, the map had become blurred.
He looked away from the unreadable map and said, "Let's search the factories from the A area."
Yao Ran nodded, "Alright."
With their plan set, Long Yu drove to the nearest factory in the A area. Once there, Yao Ran put the military vehicle back into her space.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
Before entering, Long Yu took out his weapon and said, "Ran Ran, stay behind me."
Both of them had abilities, but Yao Ran's were primarily support-type. With Long Yu leading the way, she would be safer while staying behind and providing support to him.
Long Yu had encountered mutant rats before, so he proceeded cautiously as he stepped into the factory. The first factory they entered produced instant meals and self-heating meals. Stepping into the factory, Yao Ran glanced around and noticed some finished products on boxes beside the machines. She examined them and found that some packages were still intact, so she stored them in her space.
Each factory had a warehouse for storing finished goods. After Yao Ran and Long Yu inspected the production area, they moved to the back, where the warehouse was located.
Seeing that the door lock was intact, Long Yu used his wind blade to cut the metal lock and then pushed the door open.
As they entered the warehouse, they noticed that the shelves were half-full. Their decision to visit the factory area seemed the right one. Without wasting time, Yao Ran started storing everything in her space, including the shelves, while Long Yu stood guard.
They spent less than thirty minutes in the first factory before moving on to the next-a frozen food factory. From a distance, they could smell the putrid smell coming from the factory. Guessing that all the food inside had already spoiled, they decided not to enter.
After leaving the frozen food factory, they headed to a canned food factory. Unlike other types of food, canned goods can last for years and come in durable packaging.
Finding boxes filled with various canned and vacuum-sealed foods, Yao Ran quickly stored everything in her space. After clearing out the canned food factory, they continued visiting other factories one by one.
They collected baby food, pet food, military rations, dried food, and many more. When they left the area, only spoiled food was left behind.
If the military had wanted these supplies, they should have taken them before Yao Ran and Long Yu arrived. Since the military hadn't come, it was likely they had a more abundant supply elsewhere. In this case, Yao Ran was not polite and took away everything that could be used.
After clearing out Area A, they moved on to Area B. While Area A contained food factories, Area B was dedicated to textile and daily necessities.
Unlike food, Yao Ran couldn't produce these items, so she took all the supplies she found. Although the clothes, shoes, and fabrics were dirty, she could wash them later when needed. Yao Ran and Long Yu were like locusts, leaving nothing behind wherever they went. After working all day, they were very hungry. Finding a secluded area, Yao Ran then brought Long Yu into her space to have dinner.
After they finished eating, Long Yu helped Yao Ran feed the livestock and fish while she organized the warehouse. When they left her space, the sun had already set.
Yao Ran put on a pair of night vision goggles, handed another pair to Long Yu, and then the two of them walked to the back area. Now that they had cleared out the other factories, only the oil refinery remained.
Since the oil refinery was far from the other areas, Yao Ran took out the military vehicle. After a ten-minute drive, they arrived at the refinery's back entrance.
Long Yu got out and noticed tracks on the ground. As Yao Ran put the military car back into her space, he crouched down to examine the traces.
Yao Ran joined him and commented, "It seems that someone else has been here."
Long Yu was silent for a moment, pointed to the faint footprints under the tire marks, and asked, "Did you see this?"
Yao Ran looked closer and noticed footprints overlapping the tire marks. She examined them and frowned, "These aren't human footprints."
Long Yu nodded and asked again, "Remember when I told you mutant rats attacked me before?"
Yao Ran's eyes widened as she looked at her boyfriend, "Are you saying... mutant rats have taken over the city?"
Long Yu nodded, "I think we should leave Juncheng City as soon as possible."
Boom!
Before he could say more, an explosion echoed from inside the oil refinery. Reflexively, they looked toward the source of the explosion. Seeing flames erupt from the oil refinery, their expressions grew serious.
Long Yu stood up and said, "Let's grab the gasoline before the fire spreads here."
Yao Ran nodded, and they quickly entered the refinery.
The fire started in the refining area while they were in the storage area at the back. Since there was no wind, the flames would take some time to reach their location.
Inside one of the warehouses, Yao Ran saw rows of massive oil drums. She checked one and, seeing it was full, quickly stored it in her space. While she gathered the oil drums, Long Yu checked the other warehouses.
When he returned, Yao Ran had just stored the last oil drum, leaving only empty ones behind. "Ran Ran, come with me." Long Yu took her hand and led her to another warehouse.
After a short run, they came to another warehouse, and he said, "There is fuel for planes and tanks here. Take it all."
Yao Ran's eyes lit up when she heard what he said. She nodded and quickly stored the oil drums. She didn't know exactly what type it was, but as long as a drum wasn't empty, she took
it.
