Chapter 114: Chaotic Family
Mery's mansion was in an elite complex area which surprised David.
He was surprised because the complex was guarded by quite a number of heavily armed soldiers.
One could not enter the complex unless special permission was obtained from the manager.
Even the complex of French national officials were not guarded that tightly. David knew because yesterday he was there, at Isabel's mansion.
But what surprised him was that it wasn't an official complex. It was just a private complex where rich people lived.
To David, this was really funny and strange.
Why were soldiers guarding a complex for rich people? Shouldn't it be guarded by private security?
David didn't need an explanation from Mery. He understood what was happening. Maybe this was something common in developing countries.
The taxi wasn't allowed into the complex, but Victor came to pick them up at the gate, so they went home with him.
The walk might have taken a long time because the complex was so big.
This wasn't just because there were so many mansions, but because each mansion was really big, with a very large yard.
The value of the mansions here was probably much cheaper than Jane's mansion, but if Jane's mansion was put here, it would be the smallest mansion.
It was just that, in terms of luxury, Jane's mansion had the upper hand.
David was certain that none of the mansions in this complex had an aquarium under the floor.
Mery's mansion has a combination design of various cultures, not only southeast Asian, but also European and east Asian cultures.
It only had two floors, but the area was completely excessive.
In the yard, David saw rows of luxury cars, and there was even a mango orchard with over a hundred trees.
It just so happened that right now the trees were full of very fresh-looking mangoes.
Some gardeners were picking the mangoes and collecting them into huge fruit baskets.
Mery gazed out onto the porch, and when David followed her gaze, he found that the door was firmly closed.
This was strange to David because Mery's parents should have known that Mery was coming.
When children come home to their parents after a long absence, the door is usually open, and the parents are supposed to be waiting on the porch.
However, this didn't seem to apply here.
As David looked at Mery, the woman suddenly smiled faintly.
"Hmph, it seems they're still annoyed with me," she said, snorting coldly.
Her words made Victor who was driving look at her with a wry smile.
He said, "sis, you know mom and dad are very temperamental, they're angry that you didn't call them first, just called me."
"And I know that they would only give me a hard time if I called them," Mery replied without even glancing at Victor.
"Do you know, Kevin just died," she added.
"What?" Victor looked very surprised to hear that.
"How is that possible? He was obviously very healthy," he said, looking incredulous.
"Even if he was healthy, could he still be alive after falling from the highest floor of his grandfather's office?" Mery replied.
Shua!
Victor stepped on the brake pedal suddenly, but it just so happened that his car had already arrived in front of the mansion's terrace.
After that, Victor hurriedly checked his cell phone, obviously wanting to see the news.
In just a short time, he became dumbfounded. David saw that he was watching a video.
Even in the video were the voices of Kevin's women complaining about their orphaned children.
When he heard that, Victor looked like he wanted to throw up.
"Look what kind of man mom and dad chose for me, they must be crazy," Mery said before getting out of the car.
Her frustration seemed to have escalated to another level. Victor could only smile but looked like he wanted to cry.
David didn't say anything. As an outsider, he didn't need to comment on other people's family drama.
He followed Mery who walked straight to the door of the mansion.
When she arrived at the door, Mery opened it without pressing the bell.
The luxury behind the door was something David had expected.
He wasn't surprised and he didn't need to be because the luxury of this mansion was still inferior compared to Jane's mansion. It was just more spacious.
And of course, it was impossible for a family to inhabit this mansion alone.
David found many servants at work.
They were busy, some cleaning the floors and some cleaning the tables.
Their ages varied though they were all women. David found not only young women, but also middle-aged and old women, something that was certainly strange for a European like him.
However, he could understand it given the country's economy.
Old people probably still had to work.
What attracted him the most was a middle-aged man and woman sitting on a sofa.
The middle-aged man had a good physique, as if he often exercised. His face was also handsome above average. He was wearing long work pants and a casual white T-shirt.
As for the middle-aged woman, she was somewhat similar to Mery.
Despite being middle-aged, her beauty was still above average.
Her black hair looked still very fresh, neatly bun.
She wore a traditional southeast Asian red and brown dress, looking like a royal lady.
Her skin was clear and spotless, even whiter than Mery's. Perhaps it was because Mery often wandered outside while the woman was often at home.
In terms of maintaining beauty, David thought she was no less than Evelyn.
It was just that, in pure appearance, Evelyn was indeed more beautiful than her.
That woman was beyond the reach of all women.
Even so, if the middle-aged woman on the sofa was flirting with a young man, David thought it was difficult for any young man to control desire.
She was indeed still very beautiful and her traditional dress made her unique.
David immediately deduced that these two were Mery's father and mother.
That they had a temperamental nature as said by Victor seemed to be completely true.
David knew that just by looking at their rather cold, indifferent, and arrogant expressions.
They must be the type who would immediately scold their employees if they made a mistake.
The two of them looked at David and Mery. They stared at David for a longer time.
Maybe they had heard about David from Victor, but obviously seeing him in person was still quite a shock to them.
At this moment, Mery smiled slightly, shaking her ponytail before walking towards them.
David just kept following her.
They actually didn't speak to each other even though Mery had arrived beside their sofa.
And Mery didn't take the initiative to speak either.
When she got there, she sat down on the still empty sofa, crossed her legs, then picked up a cookie on the table and stuffed it into her mouth.
This silent situation lasted for quite a while.
In the end, the middle-aged woman spoke first.
"Hmph, why did you come back? Didn't you always say the Western world is better, you should have stayed there until you died," she said.
David couldn't help but be dumbfounded that it was a mother's words after her daughter came home.
And Mery casually replied, "I wouldn't have come to this country if it wasn't for the fact that I have an assignment here. And coming home, ummm, to be honest I just wanted to borrow a place to have sex with my friend."
Her words instantly made all eyes open wide.
She spoke quite loudly, so even the servants in the mansion heard her clearly.
Mery's mom and dad were panting, looking like they had just been hit on the head.
"Wait, are you two just friends?" asked Mery's mother.
She seemed to realize that there was something wrong with Mery's words.
"Yes!" Mery replied.
Bam!
Mery's mother, whose name was Alisa, hit the table.
"Where are your morals now?" she asked in a loud voice.
"Is there anything wrong if we both want it?" Mery replied calmly.
At this point, David also felt uncomfortable.
He actually didn't mind if Mery said that he was her boyfriend. At least it would make their actions look face.
However, if they were just friends?
"Don't worry, we might become lovers soon," Mery added suddenly with a faint smile.
Maybe she said that to calm things down.
Sure enough, Mery's parents were a little calmer although they weren't completely at ease.
In Southeast Asian culture, even two people dating still shouldn't do that, they should get married first.
Even though rich people tend to have followed western culture, they still didn't fully agree if it was said in front of them directly.
And their view of David became rather unfavorable.
"Men from our country like Kevin are much better," said Mery's father, Andika.
"You'd say otherwise after knowing what that asshole did," Mery replied.
"What do you mean?" Alisa was confused by Mery's words.
Mery responded by staring at Victor who approached them.
"Victor, show them the video," she said calmly.
With a wry smile, Victor did as Mery asked.
It only took a few moments before the skin of the middle-aged man and woman turned deathly pale.
At the same time, Mery stood up from the sofa and said to David, "let's go to my room."
"..."
