Chapter 2
C2 – What The Hell Was Going On???
“We’re here to assist those in need. You can’t do this to us!”
Lin Luqin clutched her chest, her indignation somehow managing to look endearing.
The camera crew was visibly more distressed.
“If the cost of your watermelons gets out, it’ll undo all our poverty alleviation work.”
“We’ll buy all your watermelons if the price is fair.”
Zhao Yuegu gave Lin Luqin, who was in the midst of a livestream, a steadfast look.
“This watermelon is priced fairly.”
“And since this one’s been damaged, you owe me compensation.”
Lin Luqin was seething.
She had assumed Zhao Yuegu, with his good looks, was also kind-hearted.
Now, she found him utterly unreasonable!
“You’re trying to extort me!”
“I’m live right now. Keep this up, and the whole country will hear about it.”
The direct broadcasting room was abuzz.
“Have watermelons always been this pricey?”
“He may be handsome, but he’s no gentleman.”
“Even in Zugrary, watermelons aren’t this costly.”
The audience in the direct broadcasting room was outraged.
The camera crew had come with the best of intentions to help the poor, only to face this debacle.
Yet, they had indeed damaged a watermelon.
Zhao Yuegu faced the encircling camera crew, unflinching.
“You need to pay for the damages.”
“Why should we?”
Suddenly, Lin Luqin found herself at an impasse with Zhao Yuegu.
Eventually, the program team had enough.
“We have other matters to attend to. We’ll purchase the watermelon.”
“Our budget can cover it.”
Lin Luqin protested, “No way! This is extortion!”
But ultimately, she was pulled away by the program team members, who grudgingly handed over 5,000 yuan to Zhao Yuegu and took the split watermelon.
“You’ve successfully sold a watermelon for 5,000 yuan.”
“Congratulations on completing the task. You will receive a tenfold cashback, amounting to 50,000 yuan.”
A smile crept back onto Zhao Yuegu’s face.
“If you like the taste, feel free to come back for more.”
Lin Luqin grew even more infuriated.
“How can someone be like this?”
“And to top it off, he’s so attractive.”
Thankfully, the program team held Lin Luqin back, leaving her no choice but to yell out her frustrations.
She snatched up a slice of black-skinned watermelon and bit into it with gusto, channeling her frustration into imagining it was Zhao Yuegu.
Yet, as the watermelon hit her taste buds, her irritation melted away like ice in the sun.
She paused, astonishment written all over her face.
How could this watermelon taste so incredible?
A wave of refreshment flooded her body, banishing the weariness from her long journey.
This was more than a feast for the senses—it was a spiritual cleansing!
It was a heavenly delight!
She was at a loss for words, devouring the watermelon down to the rind.
After finishing, she even found herself licking her fingers.
But the moment of bliss left her yearning for more.
She knew she would crave this flavor for the rest of her life.
She gazed at Zhao Yuegu, saliva pooling in her mouth.
In the live stream, the fans picked up on Lin Luqin’s unusual behavior.
“Luqin looks so beautiful eating that watermelon.”
“She was fuming earlier. How come she looks so content now?”
“Check out the rest of the camera crew enjoying the watermelon. It must be really good.”
“Did that guy lace the watermelon with something?”
“Someone call the cops!”
Zhao Yuegu was taken aback by the camera crew’s over-the-top reactions.
“Why are they so overly dramatic?”
His confusion grew as he watched them turn back toward him.
“This watermelon is out of this world. What variety is it?”
Zhao Yuegu was momentarily caught off guard.
He had no idea!
After a moment’s thought, he finally answered, “It’s a family heirloom.”
Lin Luqin was speechless.
The camera crew was equally dumbfounded.
“You’re hilarious. This watermelon is exceptional. We’d love to buy more.”
“Could you give us a discount? We could promote your watermelon as a local treasure.”
One woman chimed in, “I’ve tried watermelons from Zugrary, which are super pricey, but they don’t hold a candle to yours.”
The camera crew swarmed her, all eager to purchase their own slices.
Even Lin Luqin, who had just been irate with Zhao Yuegu, dashed over.
“Could you cut us a deal? I want to buy two!”
Zhao Yuegu was taken aback.
His melons were priced sky-high, yet they still wanted to buy them?
Did they all have money to burn?
“The price is firm, but feel free to choose any melon from the field.”
After some deliberation, the camera crew decided to go for it.
They just couldn’t grasp Zhao Yuegu’s pricing strategy!
Every watermelon cost five thousand yuan, regardless of size.
The larger ones tipped the scales at fifteen kilograms, and the smaller ones at a mere five.
Despite their exhaustion, the camera crew ended up purchasing thirty watermelons.
Considering one melon could feed four or five people, they deemed the cost reasonable.
When Zhao Yuegu saw Lin Luqin struggling with a hefty fifteen-kilogram watermelon, he couldn’t resist asking, “Are you really going to eat two watermelons?”
“Mind your own business!”
Lin Luqin snapped, rolling her eyes in frustration.
Zhao Yuegu touched his nose, feeling a bit rebuffed.
He had been about to offer his help with the watermelons.
Now, he was reconsidering.
However, he quickly noticed that Lin Luqin was distributing the watermelons she had purchased among her colleagues.
She was indeed generous.
But what really caught Zhao Yuegu’s attention was the message from the system.
“You have successfully sold thirty watermelons, earning an income of 150,000 yuan.”
“Congratulations on completing the mission. You will receive a tenfold cashback, amounting to 1.5 million yuan.”
Zhao Yuegu’s total earnings exceeded 1.7 million yuan.
But to him, this sum was trivial.
Meanwhile, as the camera crew joyfully devoured their watermelons, the viewers in the live streaming room were in an uproar.
“What’s happening here?”
