My OP Minion System in the Apocalypse

Chapter 263 An Uncomfortable Day

The day was going to be a tedious one, and I had a feeling that it was going to drag on forever. The waiting game was never easy, and I found myself constantly checking the time, counting down the minutes until I would receive some news. My heart was filled with a mixture of apprehension and hope. On one hand, I was eager to hear about the progress of my minions, but on the other, I feared that the enemy might be retreating, regrouping, and plotting their next attack.

As I lay on my bed, my mind was a whirlpool of thoughts and strategies. The enemy was known for having some of the most robust and formidable soldiers in the world. Their physical prowess was beyond comparison, but their lack of skill and knowledge in the art of war was their downfall. My minions, although not as intellectually inclined, were equipped with artificial intelligence that utilized the most advanced fighting techniques in battle. I was confident in their abilities, and I was certain that I would emerge victorious in the coming conflict.

Later in the day, I stepped outside to observe the ongoing training of my minions. The sight was breathtaking. The ground shook with the rhythmic marching of hundreds of soldiers, each one honing their skills and perfecting their techniques. I was pleased to see that their training was progressing smoothly and would likely be completed by the following day.

At one point, I entertained the idea of visiting Howard City. The prospect of exploring a new place and possibly discovering new allies was tempting. However, the fear of an enemy attack lingered in my mind. I had a horse, but it would take me an hour to reach the battlefield, and I wouldn't be able to respond quickly if the enemy were to strike. In the end, I decided against it. I didn't want to take the risk and leave my minions vulnerable.

Moreover, I didn't want Chloe to learn about the possible final battle that was looming in the horizon. She was a brave and fierce warrior, but I couldn't bear the thought of her being hurt. If I were to visit Howard City, she would undoubtedly ask about the battle, and I would be forced to reveal the truth. I couldn't subject her to the dangers of war, not when there was a chance of losing her forever.

I made my way to the training grounds, eager to see my minions in action. I opened the advanced control menu and scoured it for any updates on the number of minions that were still alive in the other settlement, but to my disappointment, there was no report. The menu displayed the same number of minions that had been sent from here, leading me to believe that either the battle had not yet started or the system had not been updated. My heart raced as I thought about the outcome of the battle, as it would greatly impact my future.

As I watched my minions train, my mind couldn't help but wander to the battlefield. The anticipation was palpable as I waited for any news to reach me. Time seemed to drag on, making me increasingly restless. Eventually, I decided to take a break from watching the training and asked a warrior minion to join me for some personal training. I had not engaged in physical combat for a while, having been occupied with strategy and construction. But I felt the urge to improve my fighting skills, so I grabbed a lighter weight sword and got to work.

For a time, I held the upper hand in our training battle. I expertly blocked all of the minion's attacks and struck back with double the force. A few times, the minion was left vulnerable under my sword, but I chose to spare his life. I was winning, but I was only human, and as the minutes ticked by, my fatigue began to show. The minion's attacks grew stronger and more precise, making it harder for me to defend myself. Despite my best efforts, the minion started to gain the upper hand, continuously attacking me and leaving me struggling to block his strikes.

At one point, the minion stopped his sword just inches away from my neck, signifying the end of our training. I sat down on a large stone, feeling the exhaustion wash over me. Staying out of battle for such a long time had taken a toll on my physical ability, and being human only amplified the limitations I faced. I told the minion to return to his place and called the minion manager to inquire about lunch. The manager informed me that lunch would be ready shortly, so I picked up my sword and made my way back to my house.

Every day, before venturing out into my city, I would put on my armor, a symbol of my position as the leader. When I reached my house, I took off my armor and placed it aside with my sword, feeling a sense of relief as I let go of my responsibilities for a while. I lay down on my bed and drifted off to sleep, my mind still fixated on the outcome of the battle and what the future held for me.

I awoke to a resounding knock on my door, disorienting me from my slumber. I rubbed my bleary eyes, wondering if I had truly slept for a whole day. The thought of it being the intelligence agent with important news quickly surfaced in my mind, filling me with a mixture of anticipation and nervousness. I sprang from my bed and strode to the door, throwing it open with purpose. However, to my disappointment, it was merely the minion manager with a tray of food in hand.

Despite my initial disappointment, I reminded myself that a good meal was always welcome, and I settled down to enjoy the feast before me. As I ate, the worries and anxieties of the day faded away, and I was able to focus solely on the present moment.

Once I had finished my meal, I stepped out into the fresh air, feeling rejuvenated from my nap. I was not wearing any armor, and my sword was still nestled within its scabbard, so I made my way to my trusty steed. I hadn't taken the time to tend to my horse in quite some time, not since I began building the city, so I set about brushing and grooming it with care. The rhythmic motion of my brush against the horse's hide was meditative, and I felt myself growing more at ease with each stroke. I was preparing this magnificent animal for the battle that was to come, convinced that it would lead me to victory.

The evening arrived, and still, there was no news from the battlefront. I found myself growing increasingly anxious with each passing moment. I had finished my grooming and was making my way towards the training grounds when I spotted an intelligence agent in the distance. They appeared joyful yet burdened, and I couldn't quite decipher their expression. They strode towards me with purpose, finally stopping in front of me, leaving me to wonder what news they brought.
