Chapter 240 Skepticism
"It sounds like a promising plan, but I wonder if we truly have the necessary resources to execute it," I said, a hint of skepticism creeping into my tone.
"We have more than enough resources to accomplish anything we set our minds to," Chloe reassured me confidently, "I have 20 brutish minions at my disposal and another 5 intelligent variants. I was thinking about upgrading them to stage 2, to see just how powerful they can become with further training."
"They're already quite impressive at stage 1," Chloe added, her voice filled with excitement, "but if we upgrade them, they'll become virtually immutable."
"That's exactly what I was thinking," I said, nodding in agreement. "I also plan to craft an additional 500 warrior minions, 250 archer minions, and 250 swordsplay minions. We don't need any magic minions at this moment, as we have more than enough magic at our disposal."
Chloe nodded in agreement, and I opened my advanced control menu to check on the progress of the minions. I scrolled through the combat minions section and began crafting 250 archer and swordsplay minions. I opened the option and saw three options for upgrading my 50 swordsplay minions: Sword Saint, Silent Killer, and Berserker. I chose the Silent Killer option as it seemed more deadly and would prove to be an invaluable asset in battles. After that, I placed an order for 300 swordsplay minions and 250 archers to be crafted.
I also placed my advanced level minions on Stage 2 training and placed an order for 500 new warrior minions. My army was going to be indestructible now, capable of taking down anyone in battle. Some minions would take 12 hours to train, so I left the training grounds and headed back to my house.
As we walked through the residential area, Chloe headed towards her own house while I made my way back to mine. I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment, as I enjoyed her company. But I knew she didn't want to talk to me alone, so I let her go.
Now, I had to wait for the intelligence variant to return with information about the new king. It was already afternoon, and he wouldn't be back for a while. He had an 11-hour journey ahead of him, and he would also have to enter the city and gather information about the people. I wasn't sure if the king had 1500 active soldiers, as in a city of 3000, it seemed unlikely that half of the people could be warriors. They might have people who could fight, but 1500 active soldiers seemed like a myth. Only the intelligence variant who was sent to that city could clear my doubts.
My army had reached 1500 after this training session, and I would have 650 warrior minions, 16 intelligence variants, 50 technique variants, and 150 brute force minions in battle with me. I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and excitement at the thought of leading such a formidable army into battle. I knew that with this army at my disposal, victory was all but guaranteed.
This was going to be the most significant battle I had ever fought to this day, and I was determined to emerge victorious. My mind was filled with thoughts of the resources we would acquire and the slaves we would have at our disposal. If I were to acquire 1500 slaves, there wouldn't be enough space within the city to accommodate them all. I would need to construct more houses and create additional space to settle them in.
With this thought in mind, I set out towards Chloe's house to seek her opinion on the matter. I knocked on her door, and she graciously allowed me to enter. As I walked inside, she stood up from her chair and greeted me. I gestured for her to sit back down and explained the impending problem that we were facing. She listened intently and concurred with me that we would need more space to keep 1500 slaves or new citizens of the city.
"What if we created space for them outside the city?" I suggested, "An additional wall outside the city would increase our protection tenfold. If an enemy were to attempt to penetrate us and weaken us, they would have to take down two walls and cross the moat in between, to reach us."
She listened carefully and added, "If we are going to construct a second wall, it must be higher than the current one, and we must ensure that there is ample space underneath it. We must also have space within the city to do farming and grow our food, so that we can defend our first wall effectively."
I couldn't help but be impressed with her insight and strategy. If we were to follow her plan, we would have enough space to overpower any enemy, even if we were surrounded. However, we did not have many builder minions, as well as miners to collect stones. I opened the advanced control menu and put 100 builder minions, 100 miner minions, and 50 woodcutters to crafting.
As we continued to grow, we would need more numbers to collect our resources and maintain our army. My ultimate goal was to become the most powerful lord in this world, and for that, I was willing to make sacrifices. I opened the map and began to design a massive wall outside the city, covering a vast area. I also added a moat outside this wall, to provide an additional layer of protection.
Initially, I hadn't thought of adding a moat around the wall, but now that we would have farms within it, we would need to defend the wall effectively. The design of the second wall was similar to the first one. However, it was significantly higher, and it was built to withstand even the most formidable of attacks.
My city was slowly expanding, and everything was going well... almost a bit too well...
I guess I can't relax too soon.
