My (Monster?) Hero Life

Chapter 272: Dishonoured (3)

Chapter 272: Dishonoured (3)

Kace skimmed over the boring basic introduction as Grugda played around with the apparatus. It mainly described how wonderful a Phoenix Feather was, and the next couple of chapters were dedicated to its more basic uses that would be easy to replicate. Such as a tonic that could be made using it as the main ingredient. It would cure anyone, monster or human, of impotence.

Kace frowned as he read that. 'How do they know that it cures humans as well?' He glanced at one of the other titles that he had read before picking out this book. 'Hm, did they test it on the humans that took their side?' This seemed like it would most likely be the case. 'It could be that she was not actually attempting to cure impotence, but that just turned out to be its effects.'

As he read over more basic potions and tonics, he realised that this had all been very experimental. He often got the feeling from the author's words that she was disappointed by the effects, as if she were expecting something else. So far, Kace had not found anything that would interest him if he received the Phoenix Feather from the quest.

He moved on to what the author described as middle-grade effect potions. These varied in their effects quite a bit but the most prominent one boasted being able to regrow lost limbs. 'That one could certainly be a contender. Though, by the looks of it, I'll definitely have to rely on Grugda to cook any of these up.'

The book also illustrated different apparatus that would need to be used. So far, every one of them could be found in this room. Kace sighed as he turned to the high-grade potions in the book. However, his eyes widened in shock as he stared at it. The entire final chapters were all dedicated to the creation of a single potion!

It looked to be an extremely complex process. As Kace read over it, he realised that all of the previous potions had been minor steps into figuring out how to create this one. He flipped back to the beginning of the chapter and read over the author's description of the potion once more. His heart skipped a beat as he did so.

'Potion of Resurrection: Apply to a corpse to return the target to life and full health. Alternatively, prepare a statue of your target and consume the potion yourself while holding a clear memory of the deceased in your mind if their body is no longer available. Their essence will enter the statue and transform it into a living body'

Kace gulped as he read this. His heart beat faster. This was just too insane! 'Dhurz, Kharja Gyn.' His mind raced as he thought about bringing one of them back! Unfortunately, the potion was a single-use item. He was only going to receive a single feather as well! So he would not be able to make another one either.

'Shit!' Kace swore as he thought about the future as well. Could he really afford to use it on one of them? What if somebody else died in the future? What if it was one of the pillars? Then he would need this item to bring them back. He frequently cursed under his breath as he considered his options. 'I can think about it all I like, but I don't know how I'll react once I actually have it.'

It would be a thorny issue once he revealed this item. Dhash and King Shagrat would probably advocate for Dhurz's revival. The Orcs would obviously want Kharja. Whereas the craftsmen that appreciated all of the stuff Gyn left behind would obviously want him to return. Who knew what else his mind might have been hiding?

Personally, Kace was more swayed towards reviving Gyn. Even though he had a sort of brotherhood with Dhurz, Gyn had contributed vastly to the war effort. Even if he was eccentric. If nothing happened that forced him to use it on one of his current group, Gyn would be his first choice. 'Even in death, he's spearheading a revolution in how the monsters do things.'

Bringing him back would probably lead to more extraordinary advancements. With all the new materials and the brightest of each race gathering in Stonefall, Kace had no doubt that Gyn could bring a lot to the table. 'Besides, I kind of miss the little rascal.' He let out a tentative chuckle as he remembered how Gyn would shriek with delight as he bombed the enemy.

'Now that I think about it, where did that little fucker keep all of that shit?' Memories of Gyn surfaced in his mind. Sometimes, the way he seemed to pull so much out of thin air reminded him of a famous fictional nanny in his old life. Kace narrowed his eyes as he thought about it. 'Did he have something like a game's inventory?'

Kace was floored by such a thought. He never really had anything to carry about, so he never thought about it. His Armoury skill allowed him to change the shape of his weapon on the fly. Recently he had discovered that he held a vast wealth that was kept safe in the shadow realm. 'But, if I get my hands on things I want to use in battle, it's not convenient to go to the shadow realm to retrieve it.'

Shadow sometimes took a considerable amount of time to return from there with Kace's few payments so far. Making him believe that it was not something simple to achieve. After all, the shadow realm was a complete mirror image of this world. So Shadow most likely had to use one of his movement skills to get to wherever they kept the treasured stash.

'Gyn, you were holding out on me. Weren't you?' Kace chuckled as he thought about the goblins face if he ever got the chance to bring it up with him. However, that would still be a ways off for now. 'Hm, why don't I deal with this presence that seems to have been watching us since we came in here first. I think I've given them enough time to reveal themselves.'

Kace pounced towards a nearby bookcase suddenly, a vicious expression plastered on his face
