Chapter 596: Chapter 598: Trust Me Again (4)
Initially, she was uncooperative, even slightly hesitant.
But Qin Zhiyou didn’t rush. His hand, previously gripping her chin, slowly relaxed, coming to rest on her shoulder, gently urging her to lean back against the headboard. Gradually, patiently, he pried open her defenses, allowing her to relax and soften.
Her worries were a reality, as were Qin Zhiyou’s words. In life, one rarely comes across someone who you love, who just happens to love you back.
Even though he’s a man of many flaws, and the way they fell in love was unconventional. But she had indeed fallen in love, and conveniently, Qin Zhiyou had also developed feelings for her.
He was her first kiss, her first time, and even the child she was first pregnant with but never had the chance to give birth to, was his.
Throughout these five years, despite her hardship, there’s no denying that Qin Zhiyou was there for her during her most despairing, darkest days. Despite their cold wars, despite his flirtatious behavior at the time, he still had been there, supporting her through her mother’s illness, her studies, and her job.
Does she want to give him, and herself, another chance?
She didn’t verbalize her question but instead wrapped her arms around his neck.
She hoped this would be his last chance. From now on, there will be no more betrayals, no more deception, and he really could uphold all he promised.
However.
“Okay, you should leave now. You promised not to touch me tonight, but you broke that rule. So, your punishment is to go to the study.”
It had not been easy for Qin Zhiyou to win back her heart, but the moment he parted his lips, attempting to break the barrier, she gently pushed him away.
Qin Zhiyou thought he could gain more, but she placed her petite hand on his shoulder, preventing him from coming closer.
Her face was still flushed, but she put on a stern façade, refusing him access, “No, go to the study.”
She wanted him just as much but she hated when he showed no emotion when he was close to her. Love is not just about physical intimacy. It is about restraint and respect. If Qin Zhiyou couldn’t meet this standard, how was he any different from the women he used to engage with?
Her little hand didn’t exert any force, but when it rested on Qin Zhiyou’s shoulder, it felt as though it bore the weight of a thousand pounds.
He knew, although he’d managed to persuade her, the emotional episode at the hospital involving his mother lingered. He knew he should not have been so presumptuous.
Reluctantly, he let go. Still, he wasn’t satisfied. He took in a deep whiff of her scent before grudgingly getting off, “Fine, you sleep. I’ll go to the study.”
Lu Weixi was genuinely surprised that Qin Zhiyou turned down the ‘meat’ served right before him. Qin Zhiyou left their room in a huff, wearing nothing but a pair of shorts.
As he flung open the door, not forgetting to turn back and add ominously, “You better prepare for tomorrow. I’m going to double down on you!”
Even though his words sound harsh, there was a hint of affection in his tone.
In response, Lu Weixi could only laugh, lobbing a pillow right at his face.
Upon leaving, Qin Zhiyou made sure to shut the door behind him, then trudged off to the study, slamming that door too.
What he didn’t know, was that the door to Qin Zhigu’s room right next door was slightly ajar. Every word Qin Zhiyou had said as he exited the room had reached Qin Zhigu’s ears.
