Chapter 983: Plan of Action

Chapter 983: Plan of Action

"A peak Rank 5 Greater Tidemother, huh..." Committing the words Tristan said to memory, Valyr faintly nodded in response, the gears in his mind turning as he began to formulate his plan of action during the monster tide.

Naturally, the young man had no problem if the two were to ask him to fight against the Greater Tidemother.

After all, with how many Legend-level and Myth-level Void Rabbits he'd fought against while in the Void World, a peak Rank 5 Greater Tidemother was definitely something he could handle with attention to spare.

In fact, Valyr thought to himself that he probably wouldn't mind fighting against the various waves leading up to the Tidemother either, considering that he had skills in spades that allowed him to deal with many monsters in a row.

However, if the two did ask him to fight against the various waves, the young man would reject it, feeling like it would be better for the actual forces of the town to handle them.

Though he was thankful for the former village since it had allowed him to establish a foothold within this world, his gratitude wasn't to the extent where he'd drop everything he was doing just to come back here to help defend against a monster tide.

If anything, his gratitude only extended to Tristan, Alfaera, and a few others, which was pretty much the only reason why he'd accepted their request to visit the town in the first

place.

'Plus, it doesn't make sense for me to defend against all of the waves,' thought the young man to himself, recalling that he'd done the exact same thing he just thought about in the last monster tide he participated in.

Pushing the other thoughts that popped up in his mind at the mention of the upcoming monster tide's boss to the side, Valyr eventually returned his thoughts to the conversation at hand as he voiced out something that caught both Tristan and Alfaera's attention.

"I'll take care of the Greater Tidemother."

Having been talking to Alfaera all this time about the Greater Tidemother while the young man was seemingly lost in thought, Tristan looked back at Valyr with slight surprise as he asked, "You sure? That's a peak Rank 5 being."

"Don't worry," said Valyr in response, giving them a confident smile as he briefly flared out a portion of his aura.

"I have my ways."

Whoosh!

Sensing the aura that radiated out of Valyr's body for a moment, both Tristan and Alfaera's eyes widened in shock, feeling a hint of intimidation from the strength that the young man had barely revealed to them.

In a way, it kind of reminded them of the Tidemothers they fought against in the previous monster tides, exuding a level of strength that inspired both awe and fear to those that went up against them.

'What has Valyr been doing while he was away from Astarto?' asked the two to themselves, glancing at each other for a bit as curiosity briefly covered their faces.

However, even though they were curious as to how Valyr's strength had drastically improved since the last time they saw each other, the two decided to push the thought to the back of their heads for the meantime, continuing the conversation where it left off.

"Just to make sure, you're fine fighting against the Greater Tidemother, right?" Alfaera looked at Valyr as she asked, only to receive a nod from the latter in response.

"Trust me, it's fine," said the young man, giving them a reassuring smile. "Plus, you two did say that it was only a prediction. Who knows if we'll be up against a weaker Greater Tidemother instead."

"If that's the case, then you'll be putting most of the town's minds at ease." Though she did feel guilt for having Valyr come to the town to aid in their defenses, Alfaera didn't really have much choice.

"After all, even Myst had difficulty fighting against it."

"Myst?" Rummaging through his treasure trove of memories, Valyr eventually recalled the leader of the team he was part of during his first monster tide, which he gave the Perennial Blademaster subclass to after clearing the dungeon near the former village.

During the second monster tide he participated in, Myst showed great combat prowess alongside him and Tristan, making use of the skills the subclass gave her to their full extent.

Yet, even with that kind of prowess, she had difficulties fighting against the Greater Tidemother?

"Did she not focus on improving her strength or something?" asked Valyr after a bit of silence, finding it odd that someone like her with a Growth-type subclass would have

difficulty fighting against a peak Rank 4 being.

She did," Alfaera clarified, easily understanding what Valyr wanted to know. "During the time the Greater Tidemother came around, Myst was already at the middle levels of Rank 4."

"She was even able to comprehend an Intent that meshed well with both her subclass and the main class she evolved into."

"Yet, for some reason, just as the Greater Tidemother was about to lose, it seemed to tap into its reserves, regaining all of the health it had to lost as its strength rose to a higher level," continued Tristan where Alfaera left off.

"And because of that, the tables were turned as Myst had to escape with grievous injuries."

Remaining silent as he listened to their explanation, Valyr was reminded of one of his more memorable encounters in the Void World, recalling the fight he had with a Myth-level Void Rabbit to forced him to use all of the skills in his arsenal.

'I guess I should expect something like that to happen during the upcoming monster tide, then,' thought the young man to himself, moving the topic of their conversation to the general plan they'd be executing during the upcoming monster tide.

After coming to an agreement on how the main forces of the town would deal with the first few waves while those with greater strength like Valyr would handle the latter waves, as well as the boss, it did not take long for the three to end their discussions with smiles on all their

faces.

"Now that I think about it, where is Myst?" Seeing as they've gone over everything they could regarding the upcoming monster tide, Valyr decided to ask the two regarding the

whereabouts of the others in town.

"As per her last message, she's still busy grinding XP for both her level and skills in an Experience Pit at a nearby city," replied Alfaera, briefly opening up her chat function to see if her words were correct.

"She aims to reach the peak of Rank 4 first before coming back to town."

"I see." Valyr nodded in response, committing her words to memory as he shifted his focus to the other person he had in mind. "How about Damian, then? Is he still the guard leader? Is he at the barracks right now?"

"That..." At those words, the expressions on Tristan and Alfaera's faces became crooked as they immediately went pin-drop silent.

In response, Valyr's eyes widened in slight surprise as he then raised his eyebrow in curiosity, giving the two the space and time they needed to find the right words to say.

After all, from how they were acting and how their expressions drastically changed, it seemed that something serious happened to Damian while he was away.

And of course, Valyr wanted to know what that was.
